okay so that’s the body of someone that eats healthy, literally my fave food is broccoli, and i work out 5 days a week, you’d think i’m at ‘’’healthy weight’’’’ right?????

a calorie is the amount of energy released in laboratory conditions to heat water when it’s burned

so in the lab you have an instrument to burn the food and you measure how much of it it takes to heat water a set amount,

this does not in any way reflect how the body works

your body breaks down foods in different ways, for example monosaturated fats break down very slowly but processed sugars break down very fast

so by that logic something that is almost pure carbohydrate would be much worse than something that is almost pure monosaturated fat

not necessarily

oats, for example, are something like 95% fibre, meaning although they are pure sugar the body decides it’s not worth the bother of breaking them down so you get a small fraction of the sugar in the oat

so just going by carbohydrate [aka sugar] content doesn’t work properly either

a stick of butter has WAY more calories than a boiled potato but the stick of butter breaks down over several hours and keeps you satiated longer than that boiled potato that immediately floods your system with sugar, that triggers the response of too much store that for later, which causes a lack in your body which triggers the i’m hungry response

or the peanuts being high protein high fat are the reason why a snickers fills you up longer than a mars bar even though it might have a higher calorie count - because you’re full longer you eat less calories because you don’t go i’m hungry and eat another mars bar 

and that’s all assuming that every body processes food the exact same way

Adding on to all of this up here, hormones play a significant role in fat storage. “Eat less and exercise more” is a fad diet. Losing fat, gaining fat, and maintaining weight has far more to do with hormonal composition in your body than anything. Change your hormonal composition, and your body’s fat distribution is subject to change. This is why dfab people often gain weight when undergoing menopause or after having a hysterectomy (gender confirmation surgeries typically excluded as the subjects are often on testosterone). This is why endocrine disorders are often associated with significant weight loss or weight gain.

Another example of the BMI being bullshit: many professional athletes have very low percentages of body fat while also having a high BMI.

Joe Rogan is considered obese by the BMI, regardless of his low body fat percentage.

These dudes are just three of a large pool of weightlifters known as STRONGMEN!!! These dudes are crazy strong and crazy powerful, and take very good care of their bodies. But their BMIs are through the roof! And they are what most people would call fat! 

Fat doesn’t equal unhealthy, and that message is important. I also want you to remember that health doesn’t equal worth!

not every queer character in popular media - and so this includes my list - is 100% positive, accurate, good representation, this doesn’t happen. if you’d looked a lil harder you might have noticed that almost every page contains a character that was done a disservice when having their queer story told, or whose authors’ intentions were straight up ill-placed (tracer’s writer isn’t the only one). the writers often make mistakes, some less forgivable than the others, that’s important to know and important to learn from. it’s also unfortunately often what queer characters in popular media have in common. but it doesn’t devalue their characters’ impact and how important it is for these characters to be included, be it to be celebrated or be an example of how we could do better.

tracer is an openly gay woman and a flagship character for a game whose audience is neither primarily female or queer, and i decided to celebrate that. but i guess you don’t give a fuck about what that means, or simply how tracer identity resonated with real, actual people, regardless of her writer’s intent. you’re just here to (poorly) edit my work that’s meant to uplift and celebrate what we got, during the moth of pride and celebration. but wow yeah you really showed michael.

Basically, Thomas Sanders (who, btw, is gay) used to be basically the celebrated Unproblematic Fav Uwu of Tumblr and Vine. Everyone loved him, everyone praised him for being inclusive and positive, making fun and unique vines that were appropriate and enjoyable for any age group.

Then one day he got an aphobic ask (I honestly don’t remember what this was even in response to, I think it was some really innocent one-off “I hope asexuals have a good day” type of post or something like that, idek), to which he wrote a long and sincere response that basically summed up to “Hey, that’s not a nice attitude to have, please take a moment to think about how other people must feel and why it’s so important to you to shut them down”

Within literal hours (and this is something I witnessed myself, I was online when it all went down), a smear campaign against him had started. Suddenly even people who had previously been huge fans of him were shit-talking him left and right, declaring him cringey, and grasping at straws to make “callout posts” for him. One popular argument I remember hearing was- And I shit you not, I am not making this up- He was a “pedophile” because he made videos for a family demographic and has a young-looking face, but was 29 or whatever and therefore “pretending to be a kid” or whatever the fuck. He even, gasp, made vines about high school, despite not being a high schooler himself! (Dan Green voice) That’s called “acting”, children!

His popularity never really recovered, and these days he’s mostly considered “cringey” by a large portion of the internet due to the main demographic most of his fans fall into, because you know it’s hip and cool to shame young girls and queer kids for the things that bring them joy.

1. He has tags for not quite safe for work selfies on his blog (#nsfw and #tsbutt) (not nudes or even lewds, just pictures including his clothed butt.)

2. He accepts nsfw fanart from fans, but ONLY if the artist is 18+

3. There was ONE time where an underage artist submitted a nsfw art piece and Thomas posted it, because said artist removed their age from their bio, so Thomas had no idea it was made by a minor. He deleted the post as soon as this information came to light.

But exclusionists took all of this, mashed it with their “oh but he’s so childish, he acts like a kid even though he’s nearly 30, he must be hiding something!” And ran so far with it that Thomas Sanders severely suffered for it. Even his fans got shit for liking him. A lot abandoned him out of fear that a similar campaign would start against them.

THIS IS BEYOND UPSETTING

don’t act like this is new. This shit has been happening for years in England.

Did you know people used to be allowed to walk IN Stonehenge, actually touch the stones? But the Salisbury Council and English Heritage councils had to put a stop to that when fucking tourists from abroad would physically break chunks off the stones in order to take them home. When idiot teenagers spray-painted graffiti across them. When fucking twats climbed them.

People come in, people want pieces, people want pictures, people get their shitty pictures and steal pieces, and fuck off, uncaring of the damage they leave behind. 

It’s the same fucking song and dance all over the world in almost every cultural heritage site. Regardless of film or TV. Teach your fucking crotch goblins to respect history, slap your parents’ hands when they try to grab something, steer your sticky fingered grandparents away, and smack your dumbass siblings/cousins if they try to deface something. Hopefully by the time we’re all done, there might be something left over for our great-grand children to enjoy.
