My partner and I have both been trying to find work but so far have been unsuccessful, and there's been a hold-up with my partner's final pay slip from his last job so he can't get welfare yet either.

We have about 60L of fuel left in the car and obviously, $11 isnt going to be much use there when fuel is sitting at $2/L (diesel).

We're currently living in his mother's house, and she doesnt have the finances to support us either. The situation is far from ideal.

anyway, the job is in the city, which is about 2 hours away from us by car, so fuel money is now the priority.

thank you again to all of the wonderful people who have donated so far, you guys are so kind and I appreciate you all so much. to anyone who can't donate, I appreciate you guys too just for sharing this post.

I hate having to do this, but going from a 3-income household to just one has been absolutely horrible. it's going to get even worse moving forward if my partner can't get work, because my welfare payment (which was already cut down by $200 because I'm no longer a leaseholder and thus ineligible for rent assistance) is about to be functionally split in half thanks to the "income management" scheme my government has implemented. but that is a problem for later down the road.

thanks again to everyone who has donated, and my most sincere apologies for my current inability to provide any services in return. I had hoped to get back to beta work this month, but things are not going the way I'd hoped.

Do you think it should be mandatory for people with driver's licenses to take a refresher driving course every set number of years* – ideally low-cost or funded with taxes – to hammer in the basics of driving, road rules, safety tips** etc, rather than only having to pass a driving test once?

Yes, it should be mandatory / No, but it should be an accessible option / Nuance / Results

* say every 5 years for example

**safety tips could include reinforcing why it's important to keep a certain distance from the car ahead of you and how the safe distance changes depending on various circumstances; how little time speeding/weaving through traffic actually saves vs how much it increases the risks; safety around cyclists/motorcyclists; examples throughout of what can and has happened when people ignore these things; maybe even basic maintenance so you don't get stranded with a flat and no idea how to put the spare on etc etc.

(also re: work, for the sake of this poll let's say it'd be similar to jury duty in the US, in that your employer is required to allow you paid time off work, or your school is required to give you unpunished time off, to complete this refresher course because it's mandatory. And fwiw I'm talking everywhere there are cars & resources to support this, not in any specific country. Obviously some people will still be dicks but we're not talking about them here)

this will kill people and they know it, because they prefer us dead and out of sight. the government, the NHS and even the opposition have made this clear again and again. a twenty-five year old can have sex, get married have children, join the military, earn a living, be halfway up the corporate ladder or highly successful in their chosen career field by that age, but they can’t transition under NHS rules. this is a death sentence for trans teenagers and they are going ahead with it. it’s trans genocide, same as across the pond.
