so there's a special route in this hack where you can evolve your starter further, but it requires surf to access, so you can only do it with squirtle. this shows the "evolved" form of charizard which is barely accessible by normal means and not at all accessible by the guide given. it's not possible to complete the game with charcolt, or to start the game with a charmander and get charcolt. it's fundamentally incompatible with the story, in which water plays a huge part. the water is the abyss, this vast ocean that includes the unknown and unreal, and by its nature as a fire type charmander is excluded from it. so there's this sense of what-could-have-been, this sense of what-shouldn't-be, because even among the impossible creatures charcolt is *especially* impossible and i just think thats neat
