theo van gogh was the one who suggested that his older brother vincent start seriously painting. as soon as theo was gainfully employed he gave vincent around 15% of his own yearly salary for art supplies, lodging, and food. about 2/3rds of vincent's surviving letters were to theo (including vincent's earliest and last letters), all of which were found stored in theo's desk. theo's child, vincent willem, was born on january 31st, 1890, and vincent was so delighted by his nephew that he painted almond blossoms for him. vincent shot himself half a year later on july 29th, 1890. theo's distress at his brother's death worsened his syphilis symptoms and he died half a year after his brother on january 25th, 1891 (four days before vincent willem's first birthday). theo was reburied next to vincent in auvers-sur-oise at the request of theo's wife johanna.

Another writing idea that I’ll do someday but not today because it’s too self-indulgent and cheesy for me (I’m a 4’11” actor/writer)

Our heroes (sci-fi) are individual imprisoned in a jail cell complex in the bowls of the ship/colony/floating space needle thing

Individual shots of each character trying to find a way out - all including them dismissing the small vent above.

Cut to our Small Hero (it’s definitely been a thing (ie running joke) this party member is Small tm) looking up at it, inspiration sparking as they compare their size to it.

A clatter.

Space guards run over and open the door to see the grate of the vent lying on the floor, vent open and Small Hero gone.

Immediately, one runs off to find out where the vent goes.

Whereupon Small Hero rolls out from under the bed and whacks Guard 2 with the vent grate somewhere very painful.

Stroll out of the cell (possibly with newly acquired gun) and to sci fi console.

[insert quip here, perhaps something about these digs sucking]

Opens all the cells, releasing prisoners.

“See, I told you, I’m not that short.”

Been sealing wood with linseed oil today and I am enjoying working with a relatively mild, natural chemical that still carries a good chance of spontaneous combustion if mishandled. Much safer for my lungs and skin, all the spice of a fire risk.

#ok my partner failed to informed me about THAT little quirk of linseed oil what the fuck do you MEAN it spontaneously combusts

Linseed oil produces heat as it solidifies. So if you coat something flammable in it (like cotton fabric, or small pieces of dry wood), or use it in an area where there are flammables around (like wood chips or hay), then your project can heat up and start a fire. You can greatly reduce this risk by using boiled linseed oil, but you can't stop the exothermic reaction entirely, it's just part of how the oil works.

It's a relatively easy problem to deal with; you just have to make sure that your project has adequate ventilation so it can cool down and be careful not to put it anywhere extra flammable until the oil has fully solidified. Hang your fabrics on an outdoor clothes line to dry, don't bunch them up in the corner; lay your wood spread out on a nonflammable table in a large room or outdoors, don't pile it in the corner in a tiny messy shed next to a bottle of turpentine. Once the project has completely dried, there's no further danger (except of course for normal fire danger).

Also don't forget to ventilate your tools. If you're slathering linseed oil on wood and drying off the excess with an old towel, you need to spread out that towel to dry, too.

Apparently one of my grandfathers fought in world war 2 and nobody thought to tell me till now 27 years into my life

When I asked why nobody told me before my family was just like “idk he didn’t talk much”

Apparently the only story he told my dad was that one time he floated on the water for three days before getting rescued. He survived by doing the thing where you tie your pants off and inflate them. This was before he had kids so I exist because a guy managed to survive floating out in the Pacific Ocean for three days with his pants off.

Also his stepmother apparently signed him up for the navy without his permission when he was 17? I didn’t know you could do that to a person.

Side note but my step great grandma was a politician and has her own Wikipedia article that won’t give you a link to because I don’t wanna dox myself but nowhere in that Wikipedia article does it mention that she was kind of an evil stepmother from a fairy tale. I mean what else do you call someone who signs their stepson up for the navy without his permission in the hopes that he’ll die at sea. She did other bad things too but I don’t wanna get into that
