Itโs been a while since Iโve posted but Iโve still been quietly lurking. Very surprised at how many likes my previous posts got but def appreciate it and glad I have a place to share my hidden thoughts! Thought Iโd share a recent experience as a nice treat
So Iโve recently been hired at a library, which I thought nothing of. Thought I could finally have an easier job without the heroic chaos of fast food or retail services like my previous job. I have also been making better eating habits. Iโve been wanting to get healthier and just for myself you know? Iโve been eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner consistently with snacks ofc.
Fast forward to my first day, starts at 8am. I was so nervous the previous night about starting a new job, not waking up on time especially since I know I am NOT a morning person. I was so nervous in fact that I forgot about dinner and just went to bed early, hoping that it would help me wake up on time. Laying in bed as I waited for sleep to take me was fine, I felt a bit peckish in the back of my room but nothing crazy.
The next morning; however, literally nothing went my way. I still managed to wake up late, only about 20 minutes to get dressed. Instead of my usual waffles and fruit for breakfast, I just quickly made a smoothie and packed a handful of crackers for lunch. I had forgotten to prepay lunch the night before. I rush to my job and only managed a few sips of my smoothie before I arrived.
Weโre not allowed to have drinks with us, not wanting to damage the books of course. So I left my barely drunken smoothie in the break room fridge. I meet with my supervisor and like most first days, itโs a lot of talking and training modules. Iโm sat a computer in the back, watching pointless videos. After about 30 minutes I feel my stomach start to tighten and just a dull ache. I pushed the feeling away as one of my new coworkers sits at the computer next to me. We exchanged small talk as I feel the ache in my stomach grow before a short but loud growl sounds from my belly.
I quickly pressed a hand against it as I laughed nervously. My coworker was an older woman and she chuckled. โOh donโt worry, you get use to missing breakfast at these morning shifts.โ I laughed too, I could feel my face heating up as I realized how hungry I actually was. My poor tummy was too use to consistent meals for the last month and I suddenly changed the schedule. Thankfully, my stomach doesnโt embarrass me again while I complete the training modules.
Around noon my supervisor pulls me away to give me a tour of the library. Sheโs a very nice, older woman. However, she talksss. She tends rant and over explain simple procdures. I just smile politely as I follow her. All the while the ache in my belly returns.
We stand in the teen section, which was empty, as she ranted on about the new display of books. I shift from foot to foot, fidgeting with my hands. The ache grows more noticeable and painful then before. I new it was a matter of time before my tummy gave me away.
Iโm pulled from my thoughts as my supervisor asks, โSo! Do you have any questions for me?โ I politely shake my head, trying to discreetly press my hand against my stomach, as if that could stop the loud growl growing. โNo, I do not think so. Thanks so much for the tour!โ
โOf course! Ah, look at the time. Itโs almost 2pm! Would you like to take your break then start practicing shelving or try to shelve now and break later?โ Before I could even respond, my belly decides to answer for me. A loud and deep sounding growl erupted from my stomach. Iโm immediately embarrassed, pressing my hand tightly against it through my shirt. My supervisor laughs, โaw, looks like your stomach decided for you! Why donโt you take your 15 and Iโll meet back up with you?โ
Iโm too flustered to properly respond. I just nod and quickly head to the break room. For reference, I do not have a loud stomach unfortunately. Most of my fantasies are about listening to other peopleโs stomach since I know mine hardly growls. So having my stomach growl this much, and other people hear it is actually insane for me.
I go to the break room to find my bag and I remembered how I only brought a few crackers. I sigh sadly as I drink the rest of my smoothie and ate the few crackers I had. It was a small handful in a ziplock bag. I new my body was too used to food because it was growling while I ate! Every bite felt like I was teasing my stomach, it brought no relief for my hunger. I was alone in the break room until my supervisor came in to grab some water. I didnโt notice her since I was watching tiktoks until she spoke.
โSweetie, thatโs all you brought? We gotta get more food in ya, no wonder your stomach growled so loud!โ I immediately feel my face heat up again as I just laughed along with her before she walked away. But she was right, I was starving and still had another hour of my shift. All too soon I finished my โlunchโ and made my way back to the floor. I spent the rest of my shift shelving a cart of books, desperately trying to not be around customers so they donโt hear my belly almost constantly growling.
Again! My tummy tends to be quiet and only growls occasionally, so having it this often and this loud was a dream come true but also so embarrassing.
I managed to get through my shift but Iโm sure so many customers heard my stomach when it was just me and them in an aisle. Iโm sure working at the library will cause more hungry stories for me to share! Whether itโs my belly or a strangers. Oh, and I didnโt even get to eat after my shift. I managed to make a protein shake before getting dragged to do errands with my parents all day. We got home around 6pm and finally had dinner. I had a bowl of pasta but even as I type I still feel a bit hungry. Like itโs not enough. My bellyโs stopped growling but I can still feel the ache. Doesnโt help that I work tomorrow tooโฆ.but maybe thatโll be a story for another day. Thanks for reading <3
