After some years of HRT I've been left with this deep, low simmering rage. Because what do you mean it was always this easy to be happy

And if anyone comes swinging in here with "but Sierra you don't have to take HRT to be trans this is toxic" I'm going to fucking scream, because that is the status quo. "Just do this without doing this" has become a "give them an inch" refrain when making ourselves "acceptable" to the cis. Of COURSE you don't need to take HRT. I'm only reminded of it a dozen times a day.

Anita Sarkeesian, feminist who interpreted media under a feminist lens. She did a series about video games and she was the subject of targeted harassment. That was the start of gamergate

Minor correction, the start of gamergate was based around a different reporter, Zoe Quinn, but they were both absolutely violently threatened over their involvement in video game criticism and development. A hate campaign was started by Quinn's ex-boyfriend when he wrote a post falsely accusing them of dating video game journalists in order to receive positive reviews on their own game, Depression Quest, which led other bad actors to accuse all women in the industry (Zoe identified as female at the time) of perceived sexual immorality. Anita Sarkeesian's brilliant Youtube series Tropes vs Women in Video Games (which everyone should watch, right now) sparked a particular nerve for criticizing popular games of killing and/or victimizing any important female character (there is a CHILLING bit that borders on ludicrous where she describes the plots of a seemingly endless parades of games as "In [title], [male player character's] wife dies, and you then have to rescue [his] daughter."). That series did actually make a huge change in the industry, especially when touted by progressive legacy developers like Tim Schafer (Monkey Island, Psychonauts), who went on to expand hiring in his company to front women and minority voices, but the shift didn't really show for a long time and echoes of the sexism that plagues the industry at its core are still rampant.

i don't like calling things cognitohazardous, even when used semifacetiously it gives some amount of credence to the idea that one can be mentally corrupted by reading something. like even outright fascist propaganda is not a cognitohazard, one can read like mein kampf or smth and understand that it's bad just fine and not be like duped into hating da jews or whatever. reading stuff that is bigoted abt a group you are in can be painful and triggering but that isn't what is conveyed by the term cognitohazard

I don't care who you are get comfortable with the fact that you have privilege over some people and groups

are you perisex? are you non-Black? are you developmentally abled? do you have passive income or inheritance? are you legally an adult?

are you pregnant? do you have a disorder you can't treat because of lack of health insurance? are you feeding yourself off $20 a week? did you have to drop out of college because of a family situation? do you have migraines? can you get to the grocery store alone? do you have memory issues? did your parents threaten to kill you because you're gay? does your mom have schizophrenia and has she tried to kill you because of it? did your stepdad lock you in a bare concrete room in a third world country to sleep on the floor for two months?

As summer is approaching, I’d like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I don’t care if they’re big, I don’t care if they’re noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You can’t police people’s bodies.

This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
