its been 6 months and im still not over this. easily best and most hilarious play in baseball history
for those who dont really understand:
-the first baseman had no reason to chase BaΓ©z, if he just stepped on the bag he was automatically out
-theres two outs, so if hes out, the inning is over. even if the runner on second base gets home, the run doesnt count. its not until hes safe at first that the run scores
-theres no specific rule in baseball about running backwards from first, just that you βcannot retreat to home baseβ meaning so long as if you dont touch the plate, its fine
-BaΓ©z ran backwards to kill enough to get the run to score, and then stole and extra base on the base on the bad throw
-HE TOOK THE TIME TO UMPIRE HIS OWN PLAY AND CALL SAFE
what a fucking sport yall
@fractaldunes
Javier BaΓ©zβs nickname according to those announcers is El Mago which is spanish for The Wizard
Well earned
love how the explanations do not help at all
Let me see if I can break this down a little more.
Javier BΓ‘ez (the batter, a Chicago Cub, wearing blue) has just hit the ball. His job is now to run around the bases - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, back to where he started (βhomeβ), at which point he will have scored a point. In practice, he will probably stop partway, wait for the next batter to get a hit, and try to make it home from there.
The Pittsburgh Pirates (in white) are fielding. Their job is to stop the Cubs from scoring by getting them out, by various combinations of catching the ball and tagging people or bases with it.
The scoreboard (top left) shows that one Cub has already made it to second base, so he will resume running now that Javy has a hit. It also shows that two Cubs are out. If a third Cub gets out, their turn to bat will be over, it will be the Piratesβ turn to bat, and the Cubs canβt score anymore (for now, but thatβs not relevant).
The Pirate at first base (the first baseman) has the ball. All he needs to do is step on first base while holding it before Javy gets there, and Javy is out. This is probably the number one most common thing a first baseman has to do.
He does not do it.
For some reason he starts chasing Javy, presumably trying to tag him with the ball directly. This is a perfectly legitimate way of getting him out, but also completely unnecessary.
This has never happened to Javy before. Unsure what else to do, he just kind of⦠jogs backwards away from him.
Meanwhile, the Cub who was at second base (Contreras) has made it all the way back to home. Because the Piratesβ first baseman has helpfully walked the ball back home, he can easily toss it to the Pirate at home (the catcher) who will tag Contreras out.
The catcher doesnβt tag him in time.
The umpire signals that Contreras is safe (not out).
Javy also signals that Contreras is safe, just for fun. Heβs never been nearby when a teammate makes it home before, and heβs enjoying himself.
Notice that the score has not changed, even though Contreras made it home. Thatβs because Javy is still technically running to first base. If he gets out before he reaches it, the Cubsβ turn to bat is over, and nothing else thatβs happened since he hit the ball matters.
Javy remembers this, and heads back to first base. The catcher throws the ball to another Pirates fielder, who is frantically running to do the first basemanβs job.
He doesnβt catch it.
Javy is safe at first. Contreras scores (although the scoreboard wonβt change for a second).
Javy notices how far away that ball landed, and decides he can make it to second base before anyone picks it up and tags him out.
An offscreen Pirate throws the ball to second base, where another Pirate is ready and waiting to catch it, tag Javy out, and end the Cubsβ turn to bat.
He doesnβt catch it.
Javy is safe at second. The video doesnβt show it, but he will go on to score as well.
This should have been a very easy out for the Pirates, but through two dropped catches and one truly bizarre decision from the first baseman, they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and turned it into two points for the Cubs.
The Cubs won this game by two points.
HAPPY OPENING DAY OF BASEBALL 2022 YALL. LETS PRAY FOR MORE OF THIS BULLSHIT
I know Iβve reblogged this before, but hereβs a version with an explanation for folks unfamiliar with the game* and this amazing comment:
Never change, Pittsburgh
Hey, you, cis girl that's very (correctly) vocal about women being allowed to talk about their periods, do you include trans women in that?
I ask because every single time I've tried to talk about it to anyone that isn't a trans woman they get fucking angry. Which has caused me to have to just suffer in silence every single month. So I really relate to cis women when they talk about literally the exact same thing; being shamed by everyone around them their whole lives for talking about their periods, so they just suffer in silence every month as it negatively impacts their work and social lives. But I don't even feel like I can voice that I am literally dealing with the same exact thing because most of y'all react like you want to throw me in front of a bus for saying it, even those of you who act like your such big great transfem allies.
I guess I'll take this opportunity to talk about trans women periods. The first thing any tme person thinks when they hear this is always "how can trans women have periods? They don't have uteruses!"
The answer is: the uterus isn't what causes your period, it is effected by your period. What causes your period and what causes trans women's periods is the same thing: the endocrine system.
HRT changes the sex of your endocrine system. Feminizing HRT makes it a female endocrine system, giving us a 28-day hormone cycle just like cis women. At the end of that cycle, the hypothalamus floods the body with prostaglandins. Those are what cause all but one of the period symptoms, because they make muscles inflame and contract. They are what make the uterus shed its lining, they are what cause intestinal cramps, they are what cause body aches, they are what cause headaches and migraines. The only period symptom not causes by the release of prostaglandins throughout the body is depression, and that is caused by your endocrine system simply not processing as much estrogen and from simply feeling like shit.
So, the only symptoms trans women don't get every 28 days is menstrual cramps, because yes we do not menstruate since we don't have uteruses. But migraines, depression, body aches, intestinal cramps, and the infamous "period shits" don't exactly add up to us having any better of a time. Except we have to pretend that we're fine and nothing is different because no one believes that we get periods, not even cis women.
"But you can't call it a period then because that refers to MENSTRUATION!" is another one I hear all the time. This is incorrect. You use the word "period" instead of just "menstruation" because it doesn't just refer to menstruation. It refers to a period at the end of the hormone cycle where we experience a host of symptoms. And not all cis women experience all of the symptoms that encompass the period. Not all cis women get migraines, or body aches, or have severe depression. If a cis woman gets a hysterectomy she doesn't menstruate either! In that instance she experiences an identical period to what trans women experience. Yet, I doubt you'd insist that cis women who've had hysterectomies don't have periods.
Oh, another thing that I personally discovered after bottom surgery: vaginal odor changes for trans women during our periods too. I was not expecting that because I always thought it was just from menstruation. But nope, the ph levels of a trans woman's vagina are the same of as a cis woman's vagina, and it changes during our periods just the same.
Happy Valentines Day to this girl, her boyfriend, and Dimitri Fireemblem
Thingol: Sweetie pie, can I talk to you for a minute? Daeron: Yes, what is it? Thingol, setting his hands with utmost gentle loving on Daeron's shoulders: I was talking to my wife.
Daeron: Well, you should have been clearer. Thingol, thinking back to his history of interacting with Daeron: Yes, you're right, I really should have. My mistake.

idk if this is an usamerican thing or not but it always blows my mind as a small european country resident that yall have many names and types of apples???? what do you mean its not just red yellow or green??? why is it so complicated??? who is granny smith????
'whats your favorite apple' 'red' 'no i mean like what type' '??????' actual conversatiom i've had with a mutual from usa
THIRTY TWO??????
Listen that doesnβt even account for all the weird shit local farmers are getting up to.
May I present the best apple:
the world is so big and beautiful
That's really not the usa. I'm from Europe and well, yeah i've always known the galas and the pink ladys and stuff. Maybe it's a living in a town thing? Like i've grown in the countryside so we had appeltrees in the garden, of course you're going to know there are types?
Did you realise it's the same for radishes and beetroots, and carrots and actually nearly every plant?
quirky fourth wall breaking character but theyre just fucking. wrong about the medium theyre in. they keep making references to cinematic techniques and directorial styles and the other fourth wall breaking character is like "dumbass we're in a fucking comic book" and they are in a video game.
Well currently theyβre in a tumblr post but I see your point
we're actually in a youtube video if this turns out to be funny enough
I love hockey, womenβs hockey especially. Do not get me wrong here. I am seeing a general refusal and or unwillingness to engage with the idea that the problem goes beyond one player. Britta Curl Salemme moving to Detroit does not absolve Minnesota of their reaction to trans fans or their protection of her. She is not the only one in the league that holds views like this. Holding her out as the only one allows every other person who holds those views to go unquestioned. Saying that the βevil is goneβ just because she has left. The team does not cut it. There is a general culture that needs to change. It is not just her. οΏΌοΏΌ
because this is the piss on the poor website:

you all donβt even try to hide your transmisogyny
This is an ancient tactic to handwave feminism in all forms since the beginning of time. "I wont take this feminism stuff seriously until a man tells me how it is." What makes this exceptionally transmysoginistic is that trans women are expected to engage with this criticism like its actually about inclusivity, and not just boring ass regular laughed-out-of-the-room misogyny.

Luna panther (she/her)
Can feel the itch in my brain that doesn't go away, the need for Sound, the need for Movement. Thoughts going so fast but not taking me with them, wanting to dance wanting to shake my legs and walk for hours. Ideas that don't feel like mine, ideas that feel like my hands aren't moving when I want them to. Feels like I have to FIGHT to use my hands. Head in my head.

If I can have a normie desire on main for a moment, where's my transfem Love, Simon (2018)
I want a movie where Jennifer Garner tells her transgender daughter she's beautiful and perfect and exactly who she's supposed to be and then that daughter goes back to school after fucking up all her relationships to find her friends hurt but willing and ready to forgive her and her life goes back to normal.
I want a coming of age movie where a girl like me is able to figure her shit out at 16 and it doesn't kill her.
