been getting rlly into chinese hardcore metal recently
Some album recs from my personal collection:
ę们ē天空 by 脿ē
This album is CRIMINALLY short with only three tracks, the last of which is my favourite. Really good screamo vocals in this one, and some electronic elements that compliment the instruments super well.
åč£ by åč£
Better described as sludge metal, thereās a great combination of both scream and normal vocals, with some absolutely banging drumming and electric guitars. Like the last one, this is also a mini album, but luckily not as short.
Hypocrisy (Original title: ē¼éč or Yanjingshe) by Cobra
Okay I lied, not all of these are hardcore metal. This is a rock band from the 1990s that combines certain traditional Chinese elements to a more 80s sounding soft rock/city pop, but Iāve been a fan of this album for years so Iāll never pass up an opportunity to recommend it. Cobra was also a pioneering girl band in the Chinese rock scene (Iām pretty sure theyāre considered the first) so like⦠go listen to them!
Thanks by The Ugly Biography
Another mini album (most of these albums are mini albums unfortunately) and this one is like if My Chemical Romance had more screamo vocals. In fact, I am certain that MCR was their main inspiration because I can hear references to songs like This Is How I Disappear and Helena (and if those arenāt references then the coincidence is absolutely crazy). The instrumental is very reminiscent of the Black Parade album as well, so basically⦠if you like MCR and screamo vocals, youāll like this album.

listen to me, this is so so important: you've gotta get used to really giving it your 60% as a default. like don't half-ass it necessarily but try not to go over 70% or so of an ass. you'll feel better and live a happier more fulfilled life, and on the rare occasions where you do need to lock the fuck in you'll be able to pull off bullshit that the sad miserable wretches giving it their 100% can never dream of, because they're busy draining themselves dry and you have energy reserves to spare.

so wildly obnoxious when you agree with the starting point of someone's stance only for them to hard turn into things you DON'T agree with and now you have to defend the thing that was originally annoying you
"too many authors in the current market are focusing on selling 'spice' instead of telling interesting stories"
"oh yeah, i agree. i started reading one that i heard a lot about and it just wasn't-"
"and it's all of these women reading their fucking mommy porn out in public like FREAKS"
*through gritted teeth* "people should be allowed to read whatever they want, and actually these books should be left alone and you should shut up about it"
"a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips" is so fucking crazy to me because that just sounds like a win/win
prev you're changing my brain chemistry

Thanks Lufy! ^_^
for the lovely lovely deafies out there who want to get involved in direct action you absolutely 100% cannot ever bring a hearing aid or cochlear implant with bluetooth to any direct action. bluetooth devices all carry a unique signal that can be used to identify you if it's picked up at a direct action. go with a [more] hearing buddy and communicate in sign language. if you don't mutually know a sign language then come up with gestures. do not risk your freedom because you want to have your hearing aid/cochlear implant at the action. it's not worth it.
flock cameras are also now tracking bluetooth device signatures when you pass them. if you drive past a flock camera with your bluetooth-enabled hearing aid or cochlear implant, the flock camera knows you passed through
Wait I just realized this is gonna apply to all cgms and most if not all insulin pumps. Theyāre all Bluetooth devices, itās essential to how they work
I did not think it possible, but I have just developed even more hatred, derision, and contempt for the perpetual surveillance state.

so jane austen was inspired by much ado when writing pride and prejudice and of course sheās brilliant and i love her version of the plot and her very original characters. i mean itās almost unrecognizable because itās so original. which is why i love her. she took inspiration from the bare bone plot of much ado with the two couples, and then rooted all their problems in her own time period. it would have been so modern and fresh to read it right when it was published!!
but anyway what iām trying to say is that i would love to live in a universe where i could see jane and bingley play pranks on lizzie and darcy in a hero and claudio type style. itās just comedy gold.
Sorry for the rant OP, but this is one of my FAVORITE lit crit topics:
I have written on here many times how much I LOVE that Pride and Prejudice is an adaptation of Much Ado in a kind of stretchy, fanfic-AU sort of way. Austen definitely used the same characters and their dynamics with one another, but she actively adapted the story by giving them all interesting, English Regency versions of their Renaissance Tuscany/London challenges.
My favorite thing is that you see similarities in a) the scandal of an affair with the heroineās unwed family member, and b) the willingness of the heroineās ābitter rivalā (Benedick/Darcy) to go far beyond whatās expected of him to save her familyās reputation, even when it might hurt his own
In her adaptation, Austen proposes that even if Beatrice/Elizabethās family member DID have an extramarital affair, Benedick/Darcy would still be morally obliged to help the family. This differs from Shakespeare, where Benedick believes that Hero is innocent. Sex scandals are therefore key elements in both plots, but Austen really pushes the original narrative to explore what the characters would do if the family member wasnāt innocent and the sex scandal was real. Would Benedick still have the same sense of duty to remedy the situation at great inconvenience/loss to himself? Would that duty be based in his love for Beatrice, or in his sense of ethics? Would Beatrice and Benedick have even fallen in love without their familyās interference?
So like, not only is P&P a wonderful (and very funny) adaptation of Much Ado, itās also a refreshing, explicit exploration of the themes and issues Shakespeare clearly wanted to introduce to his 16th century audience. P&P doesnāt get to the violent, verbal extremes of āeat his heart in a marketplaceā and ākill Claudio,ā but it does push the character of Benedick to much more agency and responsibility as a privileged person in relation to Beatriceās own (lack of) power. And to me, that makes it an exceptionally challenging and effective Regency adaptation of Much Ado.
(But ignore my meta-izing. Letās talk about whatās really important: Austen preserving the comedy GOLD of suggesting that Benedick/Darcy is painfully in love with Beatrice/Lizzy from the very beginning, and also fucking furious with himself about it)
Biggest Lesson:
Don't ever think it can't happen to you.
