Man, Bleach really went downhill when they abandoned their urban fantasy aesthetic. That whole arc of them going to some feudal Japan looking place and having all these training arcs was one thing, but whatâs with the stupid dystopian desert? And the sudden âcItY iN tHe SkY hArBoRs A dArK sEcReTâ or whatever?
Really felt like the series got back on track and in touch with its roots during the Fullbringer arc, but I guess it was just too downhill to recover anymore. Maybe if they spent less time on pumping out gorgeous women, couldâve spent more time working on the stuff people actually like. I fundamentally understand the series better than anyone else and this is all objectively correct critiques and any insinuation that Iâm wrong just means your butthurt fanboy.

All my friends who are interested in the game are waiting to pick it up on sale or are still playing it, so I return to Tumblr to rant my bullshit. Spoilers tagged, put under the line. Just gonna rawdog it and hope this website operates still works remotely the same way it did before.
So I'm here to rant about the differences between the second ending in Code Vein 2, Luna Fraterna. If you're reading this right now, you're either aware of the game's core mechanics or are interested in hearing more and aware I'm going to be spoiling a metric fuck ton. For the sake of the latter, I shall explain:
So in the game, we're tasked with going to the past to find keys to unravel the bonds binding 5 immortal heroes who sacrificed their life and energy to everlastingly defend against an infinitely powerful surge of energy that threatens to destroy the world as we know it, mutating or destroying all life into something unrecognizable and maddened beyond what sanity can even fantasize about.
The creation of that energy happened in a cataclysmic event called the Resurgence that was held back by the sacrifice of heroes of the time. Their sealing failed, however, and a second set of sacrifices were made in an event called the Upheaval. Now in the present time, their seal too is failing but we appear to have a means of settling things once and for all. Thus we must break the seal entirely and end this struggle forever.
In the first ending, we do just that. Travel back in time to before the Upheaval to retrieve items of personal value to the Heroes so that they can be roused in the future and killed to break open the seal. In doing so, we still leave them to the tragic fates they face, but we manage to face the Resurgence and eliminate it completely. However, at a cost far greater than anyone could imagine. The world lives, but in hollow victory.
In the second ending, we don't let things stand. Rather than the future, we go back to prevent the Upheaval from happening in the first place. Banding together with the heroes of the past to face the threat head on. And it doesn't go without sacrifice either, but this time. It's one mere mortal versus eternity of struggle. Or is it?
What I came back to this hellsite to discuss is the possibilities of the many variations of the untold story behind the ending. The mechanic of the game allows for the player to meddle with the past beyond just getting what they need and dipping. Each of the heroes face a tragedy that we come in the middle of, yet we're removed just before we get the chance to face it with them. But, should you defy your mission and orders and decide to return to the past anyway, you can defy the fates of the heroes and prevent the tragedies from ever happening. Thus when they face the Resurgence with you at the Upheaval, it's at full strength. The ending itself doesn't reflect whether or not you save them, but there's an untold weight with them. Of the 5 heroes you can only save 3. But each of the 3 hold significant sway in the future if they're saved.
Josee is the leader of a group of both mortal and immortal people living in a ruined city. But her blood line is cursed to have immense power at the cost of being unable to control it. Before the Upheaval, her settlement is raided and they survive the attack, but she pushes herself far beyond what she can handle and ends up in an uncontrollable rage so powerful she can't stop herself from slaughtering her own people and then some. To save her, you have to seek out her sister, who she presumes dead, to find the results of her studies into the bloodline and how to quell the rage.
Lyle is a one-man army in an actual army. His immense talent and battle sense makes him an asset to anyone, but he's reckless and ambitious without much thought behind consequences. If he's not saved, he abandons his post to try and strike at the heart of their enemy and win the stalemate of a battle they're in before the skirmishes they keep having cause them to lose more soldiers. However, while he's gone, the enemy ambushes the encampment and slaughters everyone and he's too weakened from his battle to do anything about it, having lost his sword arm in the fight. To save him, you have to help him win the battle faster, get his head on straight, and get back to the encampment as fast as possible.
Holly is a healer, dedicated and thorough to treating all ailments the immortals and mortals alike face. Her bloodline is a rare one in the fact she's able to heal immortals at all. It's typically impossible. If she's not saved, the corrupting force of the Resurgence energy twists her patients, starting with her father, and she's forced to put aside her distaste for bloodshed to kill. Everyone. An act of mercy that tears out her own heart. She spends the rest of eternity in a jail cell until it's time for her sacrifice. To save her, you have to bring forth her father's research and unlock the true power of her healing strength to reverse the effects of the Resurgence and cure everyone.
You can choose to save none of them, some of them, or all of them for the second ending. But what does the world really look like if you choose not to?
Not saving Lyle means that the world is on a timer. With the Dawn Chorus dead and his strength broken, they can't win the battle of the Scar and eventually a world ending monster will break its seal and destroy everything.
Not saving Holly means the world never heals. Without her strength to reverse the effects of the Resurgence, the immortals will eventually mutate and the tragedy repeats. More to the point, Josee can never be saved, as Holly is the one to personally save Josee's sister and assist in completing her project.
Not saving Josee means that immortals and mortals never repair their relationship and civilization never takes hold again. Under her watch and leadership, she guides everything by itemized list to take back the world and make it a place where everyone can live safely.
Saving Holly and Lyle is maybe enough, with enough time and enough healing and power, the world may find its footing again.
Saving Holly and Josee is maybe enough, with enough rebuilding maybe they develop the weapons they need to face the massive beast.
Saving just Lyle is maybe enough, with the guiding hand of the Chorus, it may take even longer, but things could be fine.
But even saving all three isn't enough. The world can be repaired and healed. The fate of everyone can be set on the right path. But there was a sacrifice made. The one person that brought them all together, leaving a hole in their hearts. Josee's betrothed. Lyle's one and only partner. Holly's bathing buddy and inspiration. They're laid to rest with the time traveling girl who saved everyone. Sealed away to forever to take on the burden of everyone.
That's all. Ending 3 is set to be more of a resolute happy ending for all, requiring you to save all the heroes and yourself in the process. It's a pretty thorough Good/True End. But that's not always the most fun to think about. This post is invitation to ponder the depths of what the world might look like with all the possibilities of Ending 2. Of a world still broken or on the mend in different measures. It's a fun thing to think about.
Go play Code Vein 2 if you haven't. There were some issues with the PC version optimization at launch, but I've heard they're fixed up by now. I had some issues on console when I intentionally aggroed entire maps and ignored them all. Go figure things break when you do things that you're not supposed to. I like the game a lot. It feels weird at the start, it's story can feel weird if you brute force it, but it's a good time.
the thing is, if your younger self was a bigot or an abuser, u can't make people forgive you. but you still gotta forgive yourself, like that's non-negotiable, dude. that happens before u can even ask the question of earning forgiveness from anyone lese
oops, in your attempt to martyr yourself out of respect for your victims you accidentally sabotaged your own ability to conceptualize yourself as anything but a perpetual evildoer who is always one bad day away from hurting everyone you love, all but guaranteeing history to repeat itself. rookie mistake
im gonna try explaining myself, cus im a gambling addict and im waiting for the day that it actually works.
"forgiveness" is personal, that's why I said in the post that you might inflict harm on people for which they can never forgive you, but that's their quest. if you abuse someone, you can't go no-contact with yourself. you actually keep living in your own head indefinitely, and ultimately you need to learn to live with yourself in order to continue living a full life without further harm. this is not necessarily an anti-carceral thought, although i am generally anti-carceral myself. I simply want people to like, fix their heart and atone for real with measured accountability & self love instead of dissociating, self-marking themselves forever and guaranteeing their recidivism.
You and a remorseful abuser would both think I'm giving the easy, coddling path. It's actually the tough pragmatic path in disguise.
Ok. I see where you going, but I strongly disagree. The one person who can't be allowed to forgive ones crimes is oneself.
Even if everyone else has forgiven you for the abuse you did, you must never allow yourself to let what you did be forgiven. Once you've done that, you've gotten to the point where you might do it again.
Never let up. Always strive towards improvement. Never let yourself live down the horrors of the past. Only by comparing ourselves to who we were can we grow.
Itâs so fucking frustrating to argue about this on tumblr.com. Because people might pay lip service to the idea of criminal justice reform or even prison abolition. But deep down they always come back to the Calvinism of it all: there are good people (victims) and bad people (abusers) and once someone has revealed themselves to be an abuser they can never be forgiven, never be part of society again.
And if you believe the world works like that one other thing also has to be true: You know you are a âgood personâ, so nothing you ever do could be truly abusive. You could never truly harm another person. And if you did they must have deserved it. Because you are a good person.
And wow, does that not just sound like something abusers usually say, when confronted with their own behavior?
I would leave the rest up to the reader but because we are on the piss on the poor reading comprehension site here, Iâm going to spell it out: get comfortable with your own fallibility. Acknowledge that you could indeed severely harm someone else. And that means that you NEED to learn to forgive yourself.
Iâve figured out the disconnect! Those posters donât understand thereâs a difference between âStop caring about itâ and âForgive yourselfâ. Letâs have fun with examples:
Tommy was an asshole. When he was 16, he had two girlfriends and didnât tell either one about the other. He convinced himself that because neither relationship was âseriousâ, it would be fine to have both until he felt like committing to one of them. Instead he got caught out and broke two hearts in one.
Tommy is now 26. His relationships were haunted by his past mistakes for years, but Tommy is finally ready to face what he did and forgive himself. Heâs not the greedy twerp he used to be. He knows better and he doesnât want to cause that pain again. He felt scared for a long time that he could do it again if he wasnât excessively vigilant and all it did was strain the relationships he had. Everyone always telling him âonce a cheater, always a cheaterâ only validated this. But now heâs accepted thatâs not true. He could make mistakes, sure and he wonât just forget what he did, but he has to be able to trust himself that he can be a better person to be a better partner to his future SO.
Haven't seen anyone else addressing how the "feminist" preference for being eaten by a bear over meeting a man alone in the woods is in large part about purity culture and terror of rape.
Like, this whole thing is an obvious reference to older tales where the virtuous maiden flees the wicked men and gets eaten by a bear or fell off a cliff, but at least she died a virgin!
I miss where there was at least a feminist contingent that thought that being raped wasn't a fate worse than death.
Also it's not just about brutal rape + torture vs dying, it's about the chance of anything bad happening
A man raped me when I was a little kid and obviously I'm very glad I'm alive. 0/10 but definitely preferred to dying. BUT the thing is, odds are, a bear is not going to do shit to me! Listen, if I'm hiking and I come across a bear (and it happens a fair amount), we can just ignore each other. It takes either very bad luck or very poor thinking skills to piss off a bear. And hey, odds are, if I'm hiking and come across a line male also hiking, we'll just nod to each other and go about our business. But that caution is ALWAYS there. Because I can predict what'll happen if I meet an angry bear. Humans -- men -- are another thing.
>Also it's not just about brutal rape + torture vs dying, it's about the chance of anything bad happening
Which is significantly lower with a man, on a per-encounter basis. Even limiting it to the woods, countless women are in the woods with men, all the time, and those men rarely attack them.
In fact, most people attacked by men are other men.
So, no, it's not about the actual odds. Very few people on Team Bear who offered rationales cared about the actual odds.
>Because I can predict what'll happen if I meet an angry bear.
A lot of people thought they could predict bears.
Many of those people ended up dead or mauled.
It's amazing how you say bears are predictable, when you just said someone could piss off a bear by bad luck.
The bear doesn't even need to be angry to attack you. It could just be hungry. It could be scared. You have no way of accounting for that.
*by very bad luck. As in, someone just attacked the bear and it's blind and can't smell so it mistakenly thinks it's you who attacked it lol. Are you dense or purposefully misreading
The odds favor the woman who meets a bear no matter if she's in the woods or not ÂŻâ \â _â (â ăâ )â _â /â ÂŻ And question...if it's men who are the primary victims of men, why are men so damn defensive about this (statistically reasonable) trend of women saying they'd risk the bear?
>*by very bad luck. As in, someone just attacked the bear and it's blind and can't smell so it mistakenly thinks it's you who attacked it lol. Are you dense or purposefully misreading
Wait, you think all that was a reasonable inference?
The last guy killed by a bear in America was sitting on his own property, minding his own business, drinking coffee. The bear clearly went out of its way to attack him.
Here's a random guy who was stuck in a cabin with a bear attacking for a week.
Here's a guy who stumbled upon a mama bear with her cubs, got away, and it came back and attacked him again.
>The odds favor the woman who meets a bear no matter if she's in the woods or not
Odds which you have provided no actual evidence of.
And like I said, very few people I saw on Team Bear actually mentioned the relative odds of attack. Or the chance of serious injury in the event of an attack.
Spoiler: the large predator with lots of pointy bits is much more likely to kill or seriously injure you.
Heck, even running away, your odds of escape are better with the man. The man is much slower than the bear , and can't track you by scent.
>And questionâŚif it's men who are the primary victims of men, why are men so damn defensive about this (statistically reasonable) trend of women saying they'd risk the bear?
My point was "men have more reason to be afraid of men than women do, yet people like you regularly act like only women should be afraid of men".
Men are defensive because some women (and some men) say a random man is less safe than a random, notoriously dangerous type of wild animal.
If you can't understand why that might piss men - or anyone else - off, including many women who were insulted at the idea, I don't think I can convince you.
Also, "statistically reasonable" is kind of hilarious when you have provided no actual reason. You have only mistaken your opinion for facts.
In fact, I have seen no actual statistical evidence of women's choices on this topic. Just people claiming "most women" picked the bear. Not exactly a Pew Research survey.
People being factually wrong about their threat assessments does not become reasonable when enough people do it. That's literally a fallacy.
Ah, but the viral video that started the trend showed like a handful of women picking the bear and one woman picking the man, so THERE! We all know that less than 10 people in a short clip of a heavily edited short video is beyond a reasonable sample size.
Okay, well maybe that's a terrible sample size. BUT! There were lots and lots of women initially in the comments of the video that were picking the bear. That sample size can't have any faults to it, besides the fact there's little to no verifying information one way or another about whether or not the people commenting are actually women or not and, even if they were, algorithmically the video's initial statistics before virality would've been skewed towards people who are already following the creator or the initial viewers, thus giving it an audience more statistically likely to already agree with the video's message through a pre-existing audience creating a significant reporting bias.
All three very stupid reasons for choosing to be mauled by a bear over being in the woods with another human being where you have a much higher chance of getting out alive even if you have to be around a big scary man.
Any woman who says they would rather be alone in the woods with a bear over a man is objectively an idiot.
I know people find this hard to believe but sometimes women do lie about being attacked. Innocent until proven guilty applies to men too.
Women are blamed for the attack when the man is either a known and trusted person or rich and famous. They arenât blamed for being attacked wholesale. If that was the case, the back alley rape myth wouldnât exist.
The hypothetical question is stupid at the very start and also lacks detailed substance.
Regardless of that, actions meet consequences. If you're being mauled by a bear, you're fucking stupid because why are you approaching it anyway?
How do you even know there's that one bear in the woods if you're there all by yourself? Do you posses prescience so you can avoid it? If so, you may as well be alone in the woods with a man because you can avoid him as well.
Or are you a fantasy character with affinity for nature magic so you can communicate with the bear that you're not a threat to it?
Gotta be fantasy character because apparently the bear got a bounty placed on it at the Adventurer's Guild since everyone went to hunt it down immediately.
I'mma be real, the only time I've heard of people going out to hunt a wild animal after it mauled someone in the huge ass fucking forest is when it keeps coming on someone's property to maul shit or they really, REALLY need that animal's remains for one reason or another. You get your shit rocked by a bear, 3 things are gonna happen:
First - You're going to get some mild condolences, rapidly followed by
Second - "How in the hell did you attacked by a bear though? Did you follow proper safety stuff? Leave food out? How'd you manage that?"
Third - It's gonna be brought up over and over and you'll be teased relentlessly.
Honestly, I hadn't thought about it until I opened this reply, but it just hit me.
Uhh, yeah, it's actually really, REALLY easy to have a guy hunted down without a second thought by the masses. MeToo is one thing in and of itself, but there's genuinely people that are always just itching to start a dox hunt for a person that's gone viral for doing something wrong. Maybe getting 3 dozen pizzas delivered at 2 AM, constant death threats, and being permanently branded in the online space isn't a horde of vigilantes going out to gun the guy down, but you can still have someone dragged a country mile through mud and stone for cheating in a video game, let alone assaulting someone.
Fucking Twitter IS the Adventurer's Guild Bounty Board. Yeah, some people aren't going to believe you, but there are people who refuse to accept that the color blue is real or that the sun isn't a light bulb, there's nothing you'll be unanimously believed on. And it turns out some adventurer's want to know that the wild animal has actually done something wrong to deserve death before killing it. But you'll find plenty willing to put anyone to the stake because it's been a slow enough week since the Drake beef got boring and Chuggaconroy hasn't harassed anyone's feet and they want entertainment.
TL;DR - It's genuinely easier to get a mob to hunt a man than a bear.

I actually don't mind the whole "Wheelchair in DnD" thing.
What does get me is that in this world of magic, wonders, and at times steampunkish inventions; you decide to have a bog standard real world wheelchair.
You have a chance to design your own personal magic wheelchair and you're just good with the most basic HOSPITAL based one? Come on, work with me here.
Like dawg make a set of spider legs on a chair. That could move you through uneven and even dangerous terrain AND potentially give you an extra set of weapons. Be creative ffs.
Thereâs plenty of ways to handle or deal with disability even in a world where you can full revive so long as big enough meat chunk can be found of you. But the normal ass wheelchair is just as plausible for the citizenry that just canât afford to pay a caster to restore mobility or eyesight or whatever or purchase or create a magical walking chair or spider chair. A shabby held-together-by-wood-glue-and-dreams wheelchair constructed by the local carpenter based off of a wagon is a fine world building piece. Leaving it at âTheyâre in a wheelchairâ feels boring to me, but it can also work. But the worldâs an invitation to explore and be creative about what it means to be disabled in a fantasy world.
Anyone who scoffs at the idea, I invite to go watch âReborn As A Vending Machine, Now I Wander the Dungeonâ. Itâs exactly what it sounds like, but hear me out. The main character is legitimately isekaid as a vending machine, but how itâs handled is interesting. The guy is functionally immobile and can only speak in restricted, very few responses at first. He has to learn how to use those phrases in segments to speak in a more complex way and to effectively communicate with others and heâs reliant on others to move him from place to place. He makes use of his special interest hyperfixation to benefit the people who brave the dungeon and get along in the world. His âoverpowered abilityâ is just⌠knowing the rich history of vending machine culture in Japan and a single defensive ability. If they can make a whole series out of that, you can have fun with wheelchairs.
"If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" was a slogan used by the Nazis, for a very obvious reason. Anything similar should be met with scrutiny.
Not because they were nazi sayings but because they're generally toxic as fuck.
There is a level of reaction and body language interpretation you can go into analyzing for guilty dog barking to be a legitimate thing, but itâs not something easily picked up on immediately, especially when denied crucial information like talking over the internet. But the matter of getting passionate or upset about an accusation is the pure and simple fact of: I am defensive because now I have to play the part of my own defense in this shitty situation you just put me in.
If itâs something ridiculous or from someone that just doesnât matter in your life, you can probably just go âWow, thatâs wild. Anyway.â and dismiss it. But a serious accusation from a credible person requires a serious response. Even a half-hearted or flippant accusation from the right mouth still requires a genuine response because thereâs just some things you donât make light of and you have to stand your ground on that. Especially if those accusations can leave your control and be spread with much more gusto from someone elseâs chest.
So this is what being terminally online does to people.
Look at that description too, and I bet all of you the âpre-medâ part is there because she does so much âresearchâ in order to validate her âchronically illâ tag.
Seriously, whoever created the term âvalidationâ in the context of personality issues should be tried and executed.
As someone who has to be on high-dose prednisone at least once a year, I gotta say she is full of shit. Doctors hate to prescribe it. Sheâs just someone who wants to be âspecialâ. Sheâs deluded herself.
This really seems like the type of person who is only in therapy to say that sheâs in therapy, because sheâs literally describing continual opposition to the very point of talk therapy which is to openly discuss, introspect, and work things out about yourself and your situation. This is not someone who wants to be honest with herself. This is someone who wants to pay someone else to tell her sheâs always right.
"Does your Palestine shirt make you feel less weak?" pretty much hits the nail on the head, IMHO. This therapist is based and honestly should have contacted this woman's doctor to make sure she's not just using the prednisone to more or less disable herself. Any good psychologist should be sounding the alarm bells here; she needs help, but is sadly refusing to accept it when it's given to her.
Why do I get the feeling that "my last therapist was a racist who said not to visit my family in India" probably actually said something entirely reasonable like "Oh, you're planning to travel abroad? Well, make sure to travel safely. The further you are from home, the more vulnerable someone becomes. Make sure you're prepared for it before you go. Once you've committed to being in another country, it's can be difficult to just return on the fly if something happens. I imagine you'll be missing next session, so we'll adjust the schedule accordingly if you give your travel dates to reception but you do have my number for emergencies." and all they took from that was that the therapist thought India was a dangerous, dirty land because they mentioned dangers or unexpected events happening one times too many?
It makes me sad how most women literally live in a Fairyland where they think the worst jokes men make about women are those lame wife jokes.
Like if you're a libfem or a MRA or someone defending men from us "mean" radfems I challenge you to listen in on a group of men without women. I can guarantee you'll be feeling sick by the end of it. Literally look at any forum on the internet with men on it. To them we are less than insects. What happened to treating each other the same?
I challenge you to listen in on a group of men without women.
Did that for four years in a college dormatory. Never once heard anything about how the opposite gender were incomprehensible subhuman monsters responsible for all the world's problems, which is what I hear from radfems all the time, including in this very post.
You get a bunch of guys in a call together where youâre listening in and they have no clue, I can assume based off of experience with conversing with men on and off the internet, that theyâll joke more about kissing or sucking each other off at a much higher rate than randomly spewing vile things about women unprovoked. Iâll be honest, I donât know if I can even remember a specific joke one has mentioned about women in general and not a specific woman or group of women that theyâre familiar and friendly to. The name of pastas are joked about with more than double the frequency than the entire female sex.

I dreamt last night of a little Stardew Valley esque game where you play as the aloof young noble of a town. You start of with a sizable allowance and youâre let loose to start making connections, building reputation, helping out around the city, and really getting to become engrossed in the town for better or for worse.
But after a couple of weeks in game, a shift occurs. You wake up and your gold count skyrockets. You head out for the day and learn that your father died in battle and youâve been unceremoniously made Lord of the domain as your mother is grief stricken and the town needs a ruler NOW. Youâre not ready for it and everyone knows it, but everyone has suddenly been made aware of a war brewing not far from your city walls. Many people oppose your ascension to the throne and wonât offer more than the bare minimum of assistance while those who do approve help you greatly. Boom, actually Fire Emblem, kinda.
Your reputation and relationship system suddenly inverts as it becomes a game of gaining approval to gain more resources to protect the city as you try to convince the hunky Knight Captain to loot his familyâs tomb to get your hands on a powerful relic that could help save the town, talk the rogueish golden hearted smuggler to identify the underground routes in and out of the city to stop bandits from sneaking in and stealing people and resources, or support and help the sorceress develop her magic to put wards up over the city, etc. Gaining their support could also lead to romance, but important things first.
The opposing war faction is generally randomly generated with each level of difficulty adding more factions attacking at the same time until you end up with all of them assaulting your little town at the same time. The Rival Kingdom requires the player to build up their military or diplomatic might as they come head strong, but with honor. The Bandit King requires the player to build up their defenses and tighten security as theyâll find any gaps of your watch to run amok constantly. The Necromancer requires the player to build up their religious order and magical protections as the dead will rise after every battle, friend or foe, before long unless properly given holy treatment and given rest. It would be possible to ally with one or more of the opposing forces to turn against your kingdom or just join forces to eliminate another threat, but youâd have to develop your character and town to be able to do that as youâd have to make difficult decisions and actions that your town may suffer for if done wrong or may lose approval for allowing to happen, such as letting the opposing Kingdom enter the town unopposed as a neutral safe haven or allowing the Bandit King to plunder the familial tombs and such.
If you choose the route of ally ship with any of the factions, you can 100% romance the enemy leader. The necromancer is 100% a skeletal thin, ghostly pale antisocial freak of nature and romanceable.
Probably exists somewhere out there or at least really close to it, but I hold no claim over this post. If someone wants to make it or point me to something similar, pfft by all means. I have no gave development talent, but it was a sick dream.
Also the amount of times Margot in the past few weeks had mentioned she doesn't think she's pretty or that she thinks people are tired of seeing her has me a bit concerned, because that points to body image issues, and she can NOT be looking in a mirror thinking she's ugly unless some bitch is whispering in her ear that she's ugly. God i hope she's not getting bullied into looking good.
I swear to god, "Mid" loses more and more of its meaning the more I see it used. Especially when it's used like "it's not 100% perfect so it's bad". There's never been a more abused word than mid in recent times tbh.
I know 'mid' technically means 'neither good nor bad' but it's the same way 'NPC' technically means 'person who just vomits up whatever they're told'.
In reality, both are used as generic, quippy insults. I remember when mid was first used, I knew it was just a memey way of saying 'mediocre' and that people were using it the same way- to call something bad without saying it outright.
Mid has never meant 'middle of the road' to most people- they always meant 'bad but I won't say it outright.'
Honestly you could probably blame internet critics for the rise of thinking bland stuff is as bad the rancid shit.
I mean, calling something âmidâ is an insult to most people. If I were to tell you that this movie was a 5/10, would you see it? If this placeâs food was 6/10, would you bother? If these jeans were a 4/10, would you want a pair? Typically speaking, the answer is a swift no. Because you donât want to bother with the something thatâs only just passable or average. Sure these pants fit right, but they creep up occasionally so Iâll just get some that fit like a dream. Sure this food is alright and nutritionally and price wise itâs fine, but if Iâm going out I want somewhere worth it. Yeah, that movie is a little better than most, but I could spend my next 2 hours doing something Iâd REALLY enjoy. Mid is the backbone of our everything and no one wants it.
Margot Robbieâs pretty mid. But if you want her, thatâs fine. Iâm neither glad nor annoyed that sheâll be gone for a while.
It will never stop being absolutely BIZARRE to me that people who have only been out for 5 years or so...or werenât even BORN when I first came out...feel so confident and justified in calling me bigoted for telling them that they are wrong about âq*eerâ history that I was THERE FOR AND A PART OF.
Iâm sorry that your tumblr version of events arenât real but...
The QA in LGBTQA stood for âquestioningâ and âalliesâ
Q*eer is a slur
Trans men date lesbians and trans women date gay men and until very very recently that wasnât considered weird or âinvalidatingâ
Lesbian means âexclusively same sex attracted femaleâ, not ânon men attracted to non menâ. No it hasnât âalways been an umbrella termâ
Gay marriage rights wasnât something that âonly rich white gay men wantedâ. It didnât happen because ârich white gay men wanted to be heteronormativeâ.
And about a thousand other things. But....the audacity to join a community (or identify your way into it đ) and start telling people who have BEEN THERE they are the oppressors because you wonât pretend your life experiences affirm their made up fan fiction of reality is just mind blowing.
This is kind of what happens when the youth are not taught anything worth anything. What's more a lot of the time it's the youth that do it. They don't really care about facts, only feelings 99% of the time. It's why we don't let them vote.
AND YET they are allowed to carry conversations and make very sweeping claims whenever and however they want. Often to the point of harassment campaigns, doxing, and death threats.
I'm not saying don't take minors seriously. I am saying it's time we stop letting them steer discourse.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the push around gay marriage rights was primarily around the different legal rights and protections that were either directly or indirectly hidden behind marriage laws? Like an unofficially married couple had no claim to their lover's property or belongings after their partner died in the same way a widowed husband/wife in a straight couple did. There was no way to easily deal with financials between the two. Housing was an issue, if I recall correctly, because of places that only allowed married couples and, I'm pretty sure there were laws against cohabitation that may or may not still be in place? A REALLY big one was adoption because there's a next to 0% chance a gay couple got approved to be adoptive parents since they weren't legally married and the law likes make it pretty that adoptions happen to stable two-parent married homes. You couldn't visit your lover in the hospital if they were admitted for an injury, accident, disease, or treatment. Rolling back to death, you could be ejected from your lovers funeral by their family if they were just homophobic enough to do such a thing. If your lover did have a child of some sort, either through a previous relationship, adoption, or some other means, you had literally nothing you could do for them. If they got injured, arrested, needed to be picked up from school, whatever, it was a full blockade.
I'm sure there's more I can't think of right now, but it was like at every turn, the law would just be like "Yes, yes, you can play house all you want, but we're not going to respect, acknowledge, or believe that this relationship is anything other than a sham at best and fraud at worst." Which is just kinda hurtful in its own right.
this is what we mean when we say proper or professional mental healthcare prioritizes whiteness and that people of color get the shortest end of the stick every time
(Notes checkpoint: No alt text/ID/image description available yet. Lots of white people talking over POC in the notes, scrolling through them is not recommended.)
Umm⌠I think most POC have bigger issues to worry about than representation in media though. Thatâs the kind of first world problem that white people THINK POC have to face.
There are real issues we face. And actual shitty things white therapists say because they donât understand cultural differences. You know, shit like THIS:
âYou take sex seriously and donât have the typical American wham bam see you mam attitude? You donât have multiple flings and relationships for funsies and were taught to see it as a bad thing? You focused on your GPA in high school and college instead of hooking up? You MUST be asexual!â
âYou donât live up to a white American 1950s standard of masculinity? You MUST be gay or asexual! Masculinity NEVER varies from culture to culture no sir! Also men being close to other men and not emotionally stunted wrecks is ABNORMAL.â
âArranged marriages are ALWAYS bad and evil! You only want one because youâre abused!! What do you mean youâre close to your in laws?! Thatâs not normal!! Youâre supposed to hate your parents and want to stay away from them constantly!!â
âLOL youâre 18! Why donât you just leave? Why do you care about your parents? Just put them in an old age home! Why canât you move out and have fun with your friends like an actual adult?â
âWhat do you mean you feel nervous to talk to your husband about sex??? You were taught itâs unladylike for women to want romance or sex?Hahahaha LOL are you a prude?? Or maybe youâre asexual and you should just divorce!!â
âWhy do you care about your GPA? School doesnât matter! Just chill man! I got Cs and Ds and my parents didnât care! Job isnât important! Nobody cares about salary! Just have a trust fund! You can just do underwater basket weaving in college and find yourself man!â
âWhat?? You donât eat meat?? Maybe thatâs why you have ADHD!! Just eat a hamburger!! Your invisible sky daddy wonât punish you! Whatâs stopping you from getting out of your comfort zone??â
âWhy are you so obsessed with honour and reputation and future?? You are the master of your destiny!! Your family doesnât control you! Just be selfish! Youâre the only one who matters!!â
âYou co sleep with your baby? You MUST be a pedophile! I bet you have sex in front of your children!! You pick up your crying baby? NO! Youâre supposed to lock them in the closet and let them scream! You breast feed? EEWW! Thatâs sexual! Use formula instead! You let your kids live in your house?? Youâre supposed to want to kick out the little parasites!â
The artist should have focused on THESE. Not âthis cartoon about alien space rocks doesnât have black people in it so I am depressed.â POC issues go much MUCH deeper than cartoons.
But the fact that media representation was the FIRST thing that came to their mind shows that they donât really know or havenât experienced bigger things than that.
Itâs like crying about better hospital conditions to save the people with paper cuts instead of, you know⌠the people with Covid. It shows that youâre too privileged to have faced anything beyond a metaphorical paper cut if you thought a paper cut was the worst thing ever.
The fact that white therapists genuinely canât understand Asian culture and dismiss Asians, Asian women in particular as whiny, anxious, uptight prudes who need to âjust get laid, have fun, and stop caring about mommy and daddyâ should have been what they thought about first. If they actually knew the issues Asians face by white therapists.
My childhood entertainment consisted largely of anthropomorphic animals and shows with relatively diverse casts, as well as some all minority shows.
You cannot tell me that representation in media is THAT important that you develop anxiety and depression because of it.
Why is your sense of identity and self-worth tied to how many people around you look like you?
If it was something like âPeople around me made fun of me for the way I look and for how I engage in my culture and interests.â that would be understandable.
But @evipineschi explicitly stated that she thinks the main issue was that she didnât see that many people who looked like her. Frankly, I find that kinda shallow and makes me wonder what media she consumed as a child.
I'm pretty sure I've done a reply to this particular comic before, but might as well do another incase old me did a shit job.
I'm not entirely willing to accept OP's account of the situation, if only because I've seen how training to be a therapist goes and seen how bias tends to twist things. Did the therapist just shut down and make definitive statements that "that can't be it" or did the therapist try to move the conversation to something more productive than venting about cartoons?
In all of my training, I would assume that the conversation would have gone something more akin to: "You seem to regard yourself as fundamentally unloveable, why do you think that is?"
"Uh, well, I believe it may be partially due to the fact that growing up I never saw myself properly represented in media & therefore found that my appearance is essentially unwanted and undesireable."
"That does sound like an issue, however, why don't we narrow our scope down a tad to start? What about the relationship with your family? Your close friends? How do feel in terms of how loved you feel within your close circles?"
Rather the a dismissal, a refocusing of the conversation. But to a kid/young adult, not talking about the thing you wanna talk about can feel like a dismissal. Thing is, a therapist isn't there to affirm political views or tell your what the answer to your problem is, it's to guide you towards understanding where the problem is on your own and helping you define the problem. Media doesn't represent you? That might be bothersome, but typically only really matters if something else lies deeper. Are you underrepresented within your community? Do you experience repulsion or discrimination from your peers? Are you maybe mixed and your white parent seems to hold some questionable opinions? Witnessed racism or discrimination acted against your parent(s)? It's highly unlikely that your emotional wellbeing hinges on something on something as large scale as the entirety of the media landscape. So why don't we explore the more likely root causes first and work our way back up? A lot of the time, especially children, will hear things like "X is why you feel Y way" and latch onto it because it makes sense to them, but its not very productive in therapy. We don't start with the answer, we work our way to it.
Now, of course, maybe OP's therapist was a shitty therapist and maybe even a legitimate racist. Who knows? I doubt OP even does. It's entirely possible. Plenty of people will get through all sorts of trainings for all sorts of positions for all sorts of jobs and never learn a damn thing about how things should go down. We're not in OP's era of their childhood/young adult era anymore though. If you feel your therapist isn't working for you, discuss with them about changing to a different one and start looking at others. Before setting up the first session with a therapist, look them up and reviews about them. What are their credentials and specializations? Inform yourself to make sure you're going to see someone who knows about the problems you're going through. Maybe your insurance doesn't give you a wide selection of possible support, but you can at least always do your best to make sure the person you're putting in charge of your care is the best possible suited person in the given position you're in.
Innocence regarding the existence of suggestive fanart of the Darling in the Franxx mechas does not dismiss the reality that there is a SHOCKING amount of not just pinups/suggestive images of them, but straight up porn of the Franxx. Especially of Strelizia and Delphinium.

Saw on Twitter thereâs a stink going on about how Hogwarts Legacy so far hasnât gotten nominated for a damn thing. Some people are bitching that itâs proof the awards are biased and some people are sneering that âoh, but wasnât it the most important game everâ and someone went along and said that itâs objectively better than Baldurâs Gate 2, Spider-Man 2, and Alan Wake 2. So fuck it, Iâll post my 2 cents on the BG3 comparison. Slight spoilers for both.
Now some of you may immediately ask what there is to compare. Baldurâs Gate 3 is just better right? Ehh, no, not exactly. Hogwarts Legacy beats in a few things, more depending on how you value some other things. In fact, I wouldnât even say BG3 is Game of the Year material. Itâs a great game with a lot of freedom to it and a really strong narrative⌠at the start.
Baldurâs Gate 3âs endgame is somewhat disappointing. Act 3 is a mess. You have some pretty grand character pay offs, sure. But the rest of it just doesnât feel great. Thereâs some quest lines that stand out for having zero variance to them, requiring Good aligned players to slaughter entire buildings of people to finish quests. Some character quest lines just end up freezing in place. Some are cut off entirely unless you did this random obscure event in the previous Acts.
And letâs not forget the performance issues. Operating within Baldurâs Gate proper, the game starts breaking down hard. I played on the PS5 and there were a TON of issues. Did you happen to climb a ladder while some random NPC was talking? The game freezes for a solid minute while your party members try to figure out how ladders work. Looting a body for plot crucial items in a room with no window three floors up in the private are of an enclosed building? Someone on the street saw you âstealingâ and reported you to the guards. Accidentally press the skip button on the dialogue? Your dialogue tree for the next response is just gone now. You can only select the top answer. Hope itâs good! Hereâs one thatâs persistent through the entire game: Hey, whereâs your other party member? Well, remember when you jumped over a small gap 3 minutes ago? Another party member jumped over it first, so the game cancelled their jump animation and now youâre too far away for the game to care. So theyâll just stand there. Forever. Until you manually control them to get their shit together. Oh wait, you want to switch to the character? Thatâll be another minute of loading please.
Hogwarts Legacy, for the most part, never had these same sort of issues. No quest log bugs, freezing on inventory, or broken, bloated action wheels. It ran generally rather smooth through the entire game and the narrative never really had a chance to break down because there just wasnât any variance to it. Itâs fairly linear for the most part with some things determined by the execution of some side quests or decisions. But thatâs the thing. Hogwarts Legacy just doesnât have much to process. Thereâs not too much of a narrative or gameplay or the like. The primary thrust of the game is exploration and adventure and thereâs plenty for that. Collectibles to find, caves to explore, animals to capture. Itâs a good game, but itâs just not great. While Baldurâs Gate 3 is a great game, but just not the best.
Visual wise, itâs hard to argue one way or the other. Baldurâs Gate has some incredible scenery, but thereâs not a lot of ability to take it in due to the famed style. Hogwarts Legacy has plenty of beauty to it, but so little variance to it. If you go into one cave, youâve been in all of them. If you go into one crypt, youâve seen all of them. Exploring the castle is great, but once youâve seen it enough, going back through it just starts to feel tedious with all its quirks.
Musically, neither gameâs soundtrack really overwhelms the other. I donât find either game having too stand out of a soundtrack at all, really. Thereâs standout pieces for both, but only one or two. Sound design wise, I do have to give it to Hogwarts Legacy though because at the very least itâs sound doesnât break semi-regularly.
Gameplay easily goes to BG3. As frustrating as itâs inputs, lag, and bloat is, it at least has gameplay. Hogwarts Legacyâs gameplay is just a better version of Forspoken and thatâs not saying much. Thereâs quirks and depth to it later in the game, but by that point youâve already invested your skill points in a certain branch and set in your ways, thereâs no point to changing anything up.
Both games have some pretty good side casts, but Baldurâs Gate 3âs main strength is in its side cast. Not just the companions, but in recurring side characters that you keep running into or overlapping with that you steadily get invested in. I wonât spoil any of them, because itâs worth while to get to know a lot of the individual people that offer you quests or support in some way.
In terms of replayability, there is none for Hogwarts Legacy. No new routes to go down or places to explore. Not even a New Game Plus that lets you roll around like a powerhouse off the rip and just let you feel like a mighty wizard steamrolling through the game. Baldurâs Gate 3 also doesnât feature a NG+, but that doesnât really matter because thereâs several ways you can go through the main game to change your experience enough that it wouldnât feel great to just steamroll over it anyway. Different factions to side, different ways to help people, different shenanigans to get up to, different relationships to explore. Kinda Mass Effect 3âs the ending to an extent, but fuck it. The ride up to it is really fun.
Essentially, Baldurâs Gate 3 is a deeply flawed game that still rises above its flaws to present something great, but not enough to have it proclaimed the best. Hogwarts Legacy is a solidly tight game that does what it wants to do really well, but doesnât do anything to rise above the rest.
Make sure to play Baldurâs Gate 3 on PC. Donât buy a console copy. Youâll find significantly more suffering in these halls.
I wonder if Shad could potentially think of an entire industry in which he believes thereâs a strong trend for inferior, cheaply and hollow media thatâs merely an imitation of some classic great pieces of artwork makes millions of more money than they rightly deserve to make? Gee, if only there was somewhere, some media hub, maybe an entire city where a massive amount of productions come out of that try to imitate the emotional resonance with an audience in as cheap and easy way possible that only kinda scratches the itch but boy is there plenty wrong with it?
I mean, for him to speak so strongly on the meritocracy that AI art provides, he must believe that thereâs justice and fairness in widespread, easy made content in which large swathes of money go towards the projects that definitely deserve it.
I look forward to his video series on how modern mainstream movie media is good, actually. In fact, itâs only improving higher and higher upon the stuff of old.
