A bunch of exams didn’t come out as good as we hoped, both from my wife and my son, so today neither is being send home, but hopefully tomorrow both will be.
It’s been a very stressful morning, not gonna lie.
Welp, he’s still not coming home anytime soon.
This is now the second longest week of my life…
Guessing from the light that Franco's got jaundice. It's actually fairly common in newborns. Hunter had it, and required light therapy for a few days, and extra fluids. That was pretty much it. Deeeep breath, papa! This is a bit scary, I known especially when it's all new, and it's the people you love most, and YOU can literally do nothing but stand by. As long as the doctors say he's eating well, and your lovely wife is recoverying, then it's good. They're both right where they need to be right now, to get over this bump. Imagine if you were out in the campo instead! Sending love and prayers.
Thanks for the kind words, on our way to another hospital where they have proper incubators with the phototherapy machines, as opposed to just the light he had on while awaiting transfer.
After a long night in the neonatal ICU, Franco has shown great signs of recovery, his skin is back at its normal color, only the skin around the mask over his eyes remains with a yellowish tint, but I’m told that’s completely normal.
In an hour or so I’ll get his lab report, and if everything goes smoothly, he should be released tomorrow morning.
Man this has been one scare after the other, and to think we had been told the birth would be natural and be done at around Monday night lmao
They need to endure he didn’t get sick due to an infection, so pending his lab results he will stay hospitalized until Sunday.
My wife also remains hospitalized in the first hospital due to a slight spike in her blood pressure, its under control now so she should be released tomorrow.
Man, what a week.
Final update until my boy is released from the hospital:
It’s an UTI, we need to know exactly what type of bacteria, but in the meantime two types of wide spectrum antibiotics are being given to my baby, so this will take a while to sort out, so for now the newborn ICU is my new home.
The good news is my wife has finally been released, so that’s a big relief, we plan to have her come stay with our son starting Monday, so she can at least rest all Sunday, I wanted her to rest a few more days, but she just can’t stand being away from our boy, so that’s the compromise we reached.
Man what a week indeed…
I’ll leave some normal posts on the queue, and try to get this place back to normal posting, as I now need it to unwind and distract myself from this debacle when I get the chance to rest.
And so
My boy is officially OUT OF THE ICU!
Thank you all so much for the prayers and well wishes!
Now finally, the road to fatherhood can begin.
