yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldn’t have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandma’s house. don’t worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.

Turns out you can roll a 7 on a d6
but only once.
I remember this post! A lot of the comments were asking if the DM allowed the roll. It turned out they did! So a charmed party member got to deal extra damage to their own party ^^
i hate it when people mistake "etymology" with "entomology." like, i know where they coming from but it still bugs me

NANABABA - GRASS/FLYING - evolves into TROPIUS
If it feels threatened, it fully encases itself in its protective plant skin and flees. However, since it can't see where it's going, it usually trips.

You know that whatever character did those problematic things isn't like. Real, right?
You are aware that a fictional character is just a rhetorical construct designed to fulfill a narrative/thematic purpose right? That their actions are written by an author who wants to use them to explore complex ideas and moral gray areas within the safe confines of fiction right? That they aren't a real person who has killed real people right?
Atheist cleric with a god complex. She prays to herself for power
Change of plans. Her cleric best friend refuses ro listen to reason and she doesn't want her best friend to be wrong. Sl she just becomes her own god and for- er- convinces her best friend to worship her instead
It's not like I like you or anything! P-Pendejo!

Hmm. Mayhaps I think the way the internet treats its celebrities is impacting our collective psyche.
Like idk. I think the whole "digging up dirt on someone you slightly dislike to justify why you're correct rather than annoyed" and "they should have done xyz to make up for it. No not like that" and the rush to distance yourself from even the slightest unsavory facet about a person you have never met IRL is damaging actually.
MORE than in the sense of "you shouldn't do that." I think most rational adults can agree that being parasocial is bad and obsessing over mistakes and poor taste and botched interactions is detrimental. Callout posts and anon hate and so on are bad. That's a given.
But I think the prevalence of that culture is negatively impacting even people that don't participate in it. Knowing there's a subset of people out there who WILL skewer you for the slightest infraction, or WILL hold an unforgivable grudge against you if they find out what you did years ago, has to make it REALLY FUCKING HARD to afford yourself any grace, right? Because there's that looming implication that you're damaged forever if you step a toe out of line.
And I think that's what leads to people having a panic attack about being wrong about something. Or being called out for bigotry. And maybe also contributes to the whole hyper-aggressive protectiveness of characters and media you identify with. Like, ideally, you admit you were wrong, you grow up, you move on. But how do you do that if you've got this deep-seated fear that if the people you cared about found out, they might be part of that unforgivable-grudge-holding subset?
Idk. Am I making sense? I think I'm making sense.
I think the thing that annoys me most about AI on a personal, day to day, level is what it has done to grammar checkers. If you've never done a lot of editing, or used to 5+ years ago but haven't really in the last couple years, I can't even begin to describe how fucking BAD this shit has gotten. And as an author it is EXHAUSTING.
I just want to catch spelling errors and accidental double spaces and repeated phrases and whenever I use the wrong too/to or affect/effect and shit. But no. They've shoved AI up the ass of every grammar checking software out there and now they all fucking suck and make the most random, obnoxious, nonsensical suggestions.
And yeah, I can ignore all the times it's trying to get me to cut out any semblance of my own voice, or shove things into the wrong tense, or make the most random suggestions on comma usage. But if it's getting all that WRONG, what is it just straight up missing that I SHOULD be correcting? What real spelling and grammar errors are still lurking in there?
"Use Libre Office."
I get why people keep saying this (and other versions of it like "Use Adobe alternatives" and "Use Google product alternatives."). But here's the problem: I do not create in isolation. Even my own 100% personal projects are getting sent to other people whether it's editors or printers or beta readers and unless every single person in that train is using the same products, things can get wonky.
Libre Office and Word handle formatting differently on the back end, which can completely break documents if you move them back and forth between the two. So if I write in Libre Office but my beta readers are still using Word, when I send them a manuscript for review there's a good chance things won't look right and my beta reader will not actually be reviewing what I sent them.
Industry standards are industry standards FOR A REASON. Having everyone on the same workflow can be crucial to getting things done effectively and correctly without creating a lot of extra work. And those things are not going to change overnight, as much as we might want them to.
:| :| :|
Yeah, Word, let me just leave this whole chunk of dialogue without the closing quotation marks. That's the thing to do. How dare I have two punctuation marks in a row. It's not like that's how closing quotation marks fucking work.
I am going to light something on fire.
And you know, for young writers, this has got to be so detrimental just from the perspective of opening your document and seeing a million corrections that, frankly, don't need to be there. If you're a young writer you're likely not going to have the background knowledge to know what is and isn't a good suggestion, you're just going to see a document that makes it look like you made every mistake possible so clearly you must be a terrible, stupid writer and should just give up.
Some Pokesona sketches!
Once you start noticing how the incapacity to handle discomfort affects how people live their lives it's actually pretty shocking how it ruins pretty much every conceivable aspect of existence. Interpersonal relationships, romantic and platonic. Career and education opportunities. Your politics Your willingness to go anywhere. The kind of food you eat. The kind of art you expose yourself to and your ability to read it. It's never just one thing, it touches everything, and once you notice it it's like suddenly being able to see germs or something. Just this horrific catastrophe people look at you askance for screaming about. As I grow older and see what became of my friends and peers who could not learn to handle discomfort, the more I'm like. This is a genuine societal issue

i wish there was more social existence you could participate in laying down. I wish there were cafes that were two little futon beds parallel to each other with a low table in between so you could eat and drink while lounging. I wish there were group activities like painting or glazing clay or theaters that were designed to have beds and bed-height tables instead of chairs. I wish there were beds alongside benches outside for anyone to use. I wish air mattresses or roll-out beds were as common as cheap shitty chairs at things like barbeques, beaches, and concerts. so much life would open up to me and be enjoyable if I could lay down instead of sitting or standing for prolonged periods and completely wearing myself down with pain.
