He sees his scars and injuries as reminders not to repeat past mistakes, and takes pride in signs of age because of how many heroes he’s trained and worked with who have never gotten them — and Eri (equally scarred with similar (though not the same) opinions on them) would not go against him even if Ei asked (she wouldn’t)

Whether or not he would change his mind seeing what losing him (and eventually Deku and Eri & Eito) would do to her I can’t say, but the fact that it would be a shock to him on some level at least is relevant.
