websites often misjudge how far I will go to avoid ads. "you can't use this site until you turn off the adblock sowwy" I Am Leaving Your Website
ok but like. there are two different types of privilege. there's type a "everybody should have this, but some people don't" and type b "nobody should have this, but some people do"
there's having parents who can pay for your application to any college, and then there's having parents who can bribe your way into any college. there's owning your own home, and then there's owning 50 houses and getting rich off hoarding a vital resource. there's not fearing for your life whenever cops are around, and then there's being the cop and being allowed to murder anyone at any time.
idk i just feel like that's an important distinction to make.
Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the “freedom of expression” side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
From now on this is how all petty fandom disputes should be settled.
Both donation groups finished collecting donations on May 31st, and the charity has since reached out to the "freedom of expression" group's organizers to notify them that their donations will be specifically allocated to girls. The charity works with schools to allow impoverished students to go to high school (which isn't free in China), so they will be distributing 7500 RMB each for 128 girls to attend their 3 years of high school.
Also for anyone curious, the character is Luye from The Legend of Hei II. Official design vs. the fanart under the cut:

Hey, this is important and I'm gonna use up spoons I maybe shouldn't to spread awareness of this because it's that important! There is a wide-reaching heat dome expected over the next 3-5 days (as of 6/20/2025). Especially if you and your loved ones are immunocompromised, elderly, pregnant, or disabled, take precautions to stay safe. Stay inside with the AC on as much as you can. If you don't have AC, look now for a library, cooling center, or another community space that has it where you can spend as much time as possible in over the next several days. If you do have to be outside, limit your time outside, hydrate well with electrolytes, wear sunscreen and reapply it as needed, and wear loose fitting and light colored clothing so it doesn't absorb as much heat. Check on your friends and loved ones, especially those who are at high risk. Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and what to do about them.
Also, Dr. Rubin (and his wife, who's really cool and smart too) is on multiple platforms, including Instagram and Substack spreading awareness of health issues and what's going on with public health in the US. I've found them both to be good sources of reliable information in an accessible manner. He also has a book on allergies and allergic diseases coming out, if that's something you'd be interested in learning more about. People like @thebibliosphere, I'm not sure if it's going to talk about MCAS, but he does talk about it in some of his videos.
"Signs of heat stroke
High body temperature
Hot, red, dry or damp skin
Fast, strong pulse
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Confusion
Passing out
Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature. This happens when the sweating mechanism fails and the body cannot cool down, according to the CDC.
Having a heat stroke can cause the body temperature to rise to 106°F or higher within 10 to 15 minutes.
How to treat someone with heat stroke
If you see any of the listed signs, call 911 immediately because a heat stroke can be life-threatening. Then move the person to a shady area and cool them off with something, but do not give them anything to drink.

How to treat someone with heat exhaustion
Move the person to a cool place, and give them some water to sip. Some cooling methods include wetting the skin, soaking clothing with cool water, or giving them a cold shower or ice bath if possible.
Call 911 if symptoms last more than an hour, if they get worse or if they are throwing up."

The mercury really starts to crank up starting on Sunday. Here’s what you need to know to protect yourself. Summer is upon us, and so too, n
Ahem... Most of your advice is solid just adding criticism for the "giving them a cold shower or ice bath if possible" as it's situational based on how severe the heat stroke is, it affects how soon you may take a cold shower due to severe vasoconstriction and other factors. Mostly in people with pre-existing health conditions.
Some additional information:
Heat exhaustion and heatstroke can happen if you get too hot. They can be serious. They usually happen during a heatwave or in a hot climate
Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into a heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency.
...
If someone has heat exhaustion, follow these steps: Move them to a cool place. (Or shaded)
Remove all unnecessary clothing like a jacket or socks.
Get them to drink a sports or rehydration drink, or cool water. (My addition: sip on cool water, no extreme chugging of water it does NOT cool you off faster)
Cool their skin – spray or sponge them with cool water and fan them. Cold packs, wrapped in a cloth and put under the armpits or on the neck are good too.
Stay with them until they're better. They should start to cool down and feel better within 30 minutes.
Just adding this for the 30 minute addition, when I had heat exhaustion I started cooling down as fast as 15 mins when I was much smaller (at a young age like 11 years old type of small). It depends on the body type and any pre-existing health conditions.
I appreciate the additional information.

Dudes healthcare is so fake. My ADHD meds are $940 without insurance. But they gave me a website of "coupons" which straight up looks like a scam website, and I got it today for $60! Just a coupon from a random website and it was $900 cheaper. America, I am confusion!! America explain!!
For all my uninsured judys out there it's for Walgreens only: walgreens.rxsense.com
as a pharmacy technician i can share with you some websites that give you those "coupons" for your meds!
goodrx is the most well known one, but if i'm trying to find the cheapest price for a patient i compare it to scriptcycle, and use whichever is offering the best price. you just type in the medication (PLEASE make sure you're getting the right drug, dosage, and quantity) and your zip code and they will spit out some offers for you
some pharmacies may have their own discount card to compare to as well!
if you are getting a name brand medication, you can also look at the manufacturer's website to see if they offer any evouchers for you to use too
good luck out there 👍
How to Pay Hospital Bills When You’re Flat Broke
another one is singlecare.com, brought my duloxetine from $240 a month to $20
and there are coupons for hrt on there as well :) different options for different pharmacies
dollarfor.org saved my broke ass, it can save urs too
"Your son will take your throne from you," they prophesized, spitting each word out of teeth clenched tight with hatred. Why they'd bother prophesizing such an event befuddles you; your son is literally your chosen heir, after all.
Years later, you realize what the prophets meant. For most of your life your son was your pride and joy; an academic, who would surely lead the kingdom into greater health and wellness. Until he committed the ultimate act of betrayal.
"You will not take my throne from me!" You cling to your grand chair so hard your knuckles turn white.
Your son sighs. "Dad. Dad it's lead-"
"Of course it's lead! It's a strong metal, signifying the strength of our country- this throne has been passed down the royal line for 300 years, 15 rulers before me-"
"That is not enough time for that many people!" Your son throws his hands up in the air. "Because it is lead! It is poisoning you! Didn't you wonder why grandpa died at 40?"
"Ah, pfoo! That's the ancestral curse."
"It's the throne! The throne is the ancestral curse!!!"
the son successfully convinces his father to give up the lead throne. he lives and rules peacefully for much longer than his family’s previous generations, dying in his third score.
the son, upon coronation, receives his own prophecy: “your daughter will tear your castle to the ground.”
now, this is a bit more of a cause for immediate concern, but unlike kings of old, he decides that the best way to avoid this surely gruesome future is to love his daughter the best he can, encourage her interests, and guide her with a steady hand - if she is to ruin his kingdom, after all, then let it be with iron will and care for the people.
his daughter is not violent at all, will only hunt if they promise the kitchens will cook what is killed and will give some to the people, and only takes a passing fancy in swordsmanship (which he thinks is more to do with the jawline of the instructor, not that he says anything). she loves to study and read, and when she asks to go for further education in a different corner of the kingdom, he allows it.
after one year, she returns, and spends the first week back acting shifty. she is always caught ducking out of corners and hidden passages, whispering with staff, and pouring over old maps of the castle layout in the library, hurriedly covering them up when anyone passes.
he privately gets his affairs in order.
two weeks after her return, the king’s daughter approaches her father with a steely look in her eye and a grim set to her jaw.
“father,” she begins, “what do you know of asbestos?”
The eco fash and eugenicist leftists (yes, whether you admit it or not, you exist) aren't going to like this but I rank the invention of plastic as one of the top 5 best inventions to ever happen to medicine, along with soap, insulin, vaccines, and rehydration salt fluids
Absolutely! People who want to eliminate plastic production in its entirety ignore how it is used in *countless* ways medically. You know how surgical instruments stay sterile? Plastic packaging to keep them that way. How subdermal implants can be lightweight and comfortable as the body moves (to the point of being unnoticeable) and still disperse the medication for even years before needing to be changed out? Plastic bodies! Do you know what many modern stitches are? Plastic! Bc it has the ability to be fully sterilized and stretchable enough to move without snapping or tearing the skin while keeping the wound closed and in a position to heal.
If you wanna go after plastic: go after the consumer culture that puts ridiculous amounts of kids toys in dumps and clothes made by fast fashion. But this is a strong case of the ironic "all generalizations are bad" truism. I am all for reducing plastic waste and it's damage on the environment, but don't even *look* at the medical industry, let alone blame it until youve "solved" about ten other industries, cos this one improves and saves lives.
I'm on record as a plastic-hater but ALWAYS with the caveat that it's important for medicine
really I think it's gone way too far in all other areas like clothing, but obviously medicine is a whole other ballpark (hell, even in my own life- I wear contact lenses, which were theorized before the invention of plastics but never practical, and my glasses would have broken so many times over the years if the lenses were still actual glass)
someday hopefully medical plastic will be made from not-oil, but please understand that my criticism of plastic NEVER includes the medical field
Plastic is a wonderful, life-saving family of materials with unique properties that allow them to do things that no other known materials can, that unfortunately just happens to be dangerously overused right now for the sake of being cheap.
If most to all consumer plastics were converted into literally an bio-degradable or recyclable option, then what i want to dub "practical plastics" (medical plastic, things like prev prev's concacts etc) would be so negligable that we woukd barely notice it in the grqde sceam of things.
That amount of plastic could easily be dealt with with various funguses and mushrooms we're finsing that can safely break down plastic. That amount of plastic coukd be melted down and recycled after use.
Im a plastic hater only because evn just 20 years ago when i was a kid, you could technically get away from it outside of "practical plastics" with a bit of fanangling.
Now plastic is in your underwear. Its in your workout clothes. Its your toothbrush, your hairbrush, your nice paintbrushes. Its in your pillows. Its in your sheets. This is crazy. If someone told me when i was seven that feather pillows would become next to impossible to find and that I'd have to play underwear rolette to find 100% cotton boxer briefs, I'd have laughed in your face.
But I also know that'd dehydrate if i had to rely on metal or glass waterbottles bc my chronically ill ass sometimes doesnt have the arm strength to lift it so my plastic 32oz water bottle is my life.

Hey everyone. There's a new youtube feature that rolled out just yesterday that's raising some privacy concerns.
People in the U.S., U.K., Brazil, and Singapore can now share videos and chat with friends directly within the YouTube app. The update bring
This post talks about a new DM feature in youtube. What it fails to mention is that as part of this new feature is that when you send someone a link to a video, and they open it in the youtube app, they will see who sent them the link. Specifically, your channel name.
If your google account name is your real name, so is your channel name by default.
This means the new default behavior is that everyone you send a youtube link to will see your full name if they open it in the mobile app.
To turn this off:
Go to your youtube app settings
Go to Privacy
Turn off "Channel visibility for shared links"
Trimming the source id (the stuff after the '?' in links) will also prevent this from happening.

“The Past & Present”
you have permission to pick that 2 year old "abandoned" project back up. it's not mad at you for setting it aside. and maybe time and distance have helped ease or erase the things that made you put it down in the first place.
The rule could have heavy impacts towards trans people across society.
Last week, the Trump administration quietly released a sweeping new federal rule that would use funding threats to force institutions across the country to reject transgender people. The 400-page proposed regulation would codify the administration's anti-trans executive orders into binding federal policy, imposing a blanket prohibition on federal funds going toward "gender ideology"
The proposed rule, formally titled "Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance," rewrites the government-wide framework governing all federal grants across every agency. Among its most consequential provisions, it requires that before a federal grant recipient can receive money, the award must pass a "pre-issuance review" conducted by a political appointee—not a career expert or peer reviewer—to ensure it is "consistent with applicable law, Federal agency priorities, and the national interest." The regulation explicitly instructs these appointees to screen for "denial by the recipient of the sex binary in humans or the notion that sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic." [...] An institution that acknowledges transgender people exist—through its policies, its training, its healthcare, its bathroom access, its HR procedures, its name-change processes—could be deemed to "deny the sex binary" or to “support the notion that sex is mutable” and have its federal funding blocked.
Importantly, the gender ideology prohibition has no age limitation—hospitals could be targeted not just for providing care to minors but for providing gender-affirming care to adults, because prescribing hormone therapy to a transgender patient of any age could be deemed promoting the belief that "sex is a chosen or mutable characteristic."
THIS IS OPEN TO COMMENT UNTIL JULY 13, 2026
This is all very bad and horrible, but I want to be clear that it’s worse and more sweeping than just eliminating trans research.
This torches everything. And I do mean everything.
A very abbreviated list of its ramifications include (but are not limited to):
ending funding for ALL DEI related initiatives
allowing the government to terminate grants at any point for any reason
preventing researchers from publishing, going to conferences, and being part of academic societies
requiring that topics must support the president’s agenda.
What this means, and if anything I’m under selling it, is the death of science and research in America. It allows the government to restrict any topic they please at a whims notice, putting officials who have no background in the topic in charge of deciding funding continuity. It controls what gets researched and if/how researchers are allowed to share their discoveries. There are no books to burn if the government never allows them to be written. This is fascism plain and simple.
Please, if you only ever write one public comment, this is the one to do.
Bringing back this guide to writing an effective public comment. This gives you the basics you need to know, what you need to include, a basic outline you can follow, etc.
Public comments are not a vote, it is a chance for you to say "here is an issue with this law I think you need to address" and provide justification for legal challenges if it goes forward:
"Comments raise the bar that agencies have to meet when making a rule; “if an agency fails to adequately respond to significant, relevant comments in a final rule, members of the public may seek to challenge the rule in court on that basis and claim it could be struck down.ˮ"
But also, if possible, don't stop at writing a comment. Don't stop at calling your representatives. You should ideally be talking to people in your community about this and organizing resistance on-the-ground; there is a good chance people are already doing that even if you aren't hearing about it.

ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!
Hold on i should've been more specific.
First: THIS RECALL IS NOT STATE SPECIFIC. IT IS NATIONWIDE.
here are the specific products and dates:

If you use baby wipes go check them NOW. A lot of Burkholderia bugs are antibiotic resistant so infections can be really difficult to treat.
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Let’s fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
5. If the words are Google's, this solidifies the position of universities who demand that all answers from AI are fully cited. If all the in-line citations now have to be (Google, 2026), that's going to make it obvious when someone's trying to use Google as a source. There's still the difficulty with people who are academically dishonest by trying to pass off the AI writing as their own. 6. 91% accuracy is officially too low to use as a source of references, which means the AI can't be used as a source of references either. This makes it less legitimate for such purposes than Wikipedia of all places (Wikipedia might need date/time proof of when it was accessed for the reference to be valid, but at least it is possible to prove the link existed at a particular date and time). 7. This will help encourage the rollout of courses on how to avoid AI search for students who need academic accuracy, because it's statistically not good enough to use. 8. This strengthens the case intellectual property authors have against Google in the EU, as this is proof that an intellectual property transfer took place.
