And also
Companies in the 2000s: You wouldn't download a car! Digital copies are still stealing, even if the original copy remains with us.
Companies in the 2020s: That digital copy, which you have paid for, doesn't really belong to you. We're removing it from your library now.
Companies deleting media you've literally purchased is 1000x more realistically "stealing" than digital piracy, you cannot change my mind
"fandom is dying," they whine as they stab artists and writers in the chest with discourse knives and harassment screws. "why isn't anyone making content for me to greedily consume for free as I make the experience worse for them and everyone around me?"
My favorite scenes in the LotR books are the ones where Legolas has vital information and just decides it's not important to share.
Like when Gandalf spent literal PAGES trying to figure out why the vibes were off in Moria and Legolas chimes in with just "it's a balrog :) that shit's evil :) we're so fucked :)" like what do you MEAN you knew already and just didn't tell him??
Or at the beginning of Two Towers when Aragorn thinks there's something nearby so he puts his ear to the ground to listen, and then like 10 minutes later is like "hmmm i hear horses" and Legolas is just like "mm yep. there are 105 blond bitches with spears" like you just let your friend put his face in the dirt and you can SEE them??
Legolas please gain a sense of urgency
It's because legolas hasn't spent enough time with non-elves to remember that they don't know what he knows.
gandalf is scratching his head in moria, and legolas is thinking "oh man, the wizard noticed something off *besides* the obvious balrog that we all are aware of??"
"I wonder what aragorn is listening for? must be hard to hear, what with all of the horses. How many horses are there, actually? 1... 2... 3..."
"What do your elvish eyes see?" is Aragorn saying, as politely as possible, "Because the REST OF US are at a significant disadvantage, Prince Dipshit."

please god let chatgpt die out like nfts did. With a fast and graceless fall into irrelevancy

This spell has a very low hit ratio, so we need a lot of us to do it.
Honestly, if you ever see a manga character and think "Damn, their style is dope as fuck" 9 times out of 10 their fit comes directly out of a fashion magazine. Sailor Moon was wearing Dior. JoJo was wearing Missoni.
Not to downplay the skill of the artists adapting those styles to their characters, but that is why the drip is so clean.
Like, this is a piece of trivia I love to share and I think it's important for a few reasons. One is because it emphasizes how much great art is about study and reference. Artists learn from artists and it elevates their work.
Two, because fashion *is* art (which is maybe a less controversial take now than it was a decade ago) and it's important that we recognize when great fashion inspires us.
Three, because acknowledging how much time great mangaka spent studying fashion *is* recognizing just how much hard work and effort goes into their creations.
And also I just think it's cool as fuck.
Is someone gonna post some examples? 👀
From Sailor Moon at least these are probably the most relatively famous examples.
For instance! ☝️🤓
- Sailor Pluto wears the Karl Lagerfeld-designed Chanel gold chain dress from their Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1992 collection. Even the jewelry takes cues from the runway styling as worn by Christy Turlington
- Neo-Queen Serenity's dress is inspired by the Il Palladio gown from Dior's Haute Couture Spring/Summer 1992 collection. It's not a full lift— the manga's version plunges in the back whereas the neckline of the original is fully straight, among other stylizing on the details of the gown
- Black Lady's outfit was inspired by the styling done for Kate Moss for YSL's 1994 print advertisement campaign for their Opium perfume
- Koan's whole look was based off the sheer jumpsuit with the feathered tutu worn in Mugler's debut collection from Haute Couture Fall/Winter 1992 (for the life of me I cannot find this model's name 😭)
Here’s an example from JJBA. Araki references fashion media a LOT in his art, especially with the signature JoJo poses people know and love. Here’s some more:
A lot of people ask where I get my character fashion designs from and it's pretty much exactly this. I look at a lot of runway art shows for inspiration and either directly draw outfits or learn from how fashion designers use silhouettes, texture and color.
Talking to friends with inept parents is crazy. No wonder they’re like this if their parents kept fumbling
“I’m having trouble adapting to my adult responsibilities” well no wonder, nobody raised you 😭😭😭
Hot tip for future parents: you actually have to guide your kid to adulthood. Feeding them and waiting for them to grow up is not enough since they are not house plants. A little more thought and care is required.
for those lacking certain "adulting" skills, especially things around the house, check out:
mom, how do i...?
and dad, how do i...?
^ there are tons of other resources but these two will teach you some personal hygiene, home or apartment repairs, easy recipes and basic cleaning techniques, even how to schedule doctor's appointments
if youre a renter i cannot recommend the trans handyma'am enough, mercury is a lifesaver, and her channel and accounts are always accepting new questions
there are so many resources, a lot that you dont have to even ask for, just know how to look 🩷 much love
Jumping in here to also suggest "see Jane drill" on YouTube. She's great for bigger projects... stuff like installing appliances or doing major renovation or repair. My husband replaced all the toilets in our house in a weekend using her tutorials. It would have cost $500 per toilet to have a plumber do it but we did it for just cost of materials which was around $200 each.

Hucklerabbot in the future, Robby and Jack are retired because decades of working in ED has left them physically and mentally completely unwell
First realisation they are really old comes when Jack loses his balance once and falls to the ground and is unable to get back up, and Robby in effort to help him up, throws his back out and they end up having to call an ambulance
Dennis was worried sick, not just for their physical health, two of his most important people were old and not doing well, but he knew very well just how badly mentally they'll take all of this
Soon enough it's not just Jack and his balance issue but Robby too. The man begins to forget things, small and unimportant at first. 'Where are my glasses?' while they sit atop of his head. But then he starts forgetting dates and important anniversaries, something he's never forgotten before.
And then he gets hit with the Alzheimer's diagnosis and is devastated and so is Jack and Dennis.
Dennis would never admit to anyone out loud that he's terrified of losing them both, and that it'll happen sooner than he'd like, and that he's crying himself to sleep almost daily, staying awake long after the two of them fall asleep, trying to get as much time with them as possible.
But strangely enough, they make it all work in their own bubble, their own way. Robby is helping Jack with his balance and Jack is helping Robby with his memory.
Casual walks outside, Robby pushing Jack in his wheelchair while the man is pointing out places they've been to. "Remember when we..." "No, not really." "Well I do and you loved every second of it."
And although Robby doesn't remember it, he knows it's true because he knows Jack.
Until one day he doesn't know him, doesn't recognise him. Doesn't recognise Dennis either. Who are these two men and why are they at his place?
And then he begins to roam the place in middle of the night, rearranging things because they were not right and he didn't leave it that way. And it escalates, he begins to roam outside their house, and then forgets how to get home. Police brings him back and when he does remember who he is and where he lives and who his two boyfriends are, he's crying because these memory lapses are horrible and he'd rather be dead.
Eventually Robby starts to wander further, finding his place back to the PTMC and nothing is the way it used to be, nobody knows him, they see this old confused man roaming the hallways, until Dennis, the current attending, informs everyone Robby used to work there before the new generation took over and he's struggling to keep away even in his condition.
But he causes no harm and actually being back at the Pitt is great excercise for his brain because he's helping the med students with hard diagnosis.
It's slow, agonising watch but when it's time to go, it's time to go and Robby passes away at home, in his own bed, snuggled up to his boys and Jack follows him year later, leaving Dennis all alone and heartbroken but grateful for all the amazing memories they shared together during their lives.
And he'll always have something to remember them by, tattoo of Robby's Memento Mori and Jack's dogtags number.
it's cool how in the 6 years since this tweet was written it's become significantly less useful not because anything has gotten better but because the majority of products on Amazon are now from fly-by-night brands called "ZZPORK" and "GLUM4PANT"
Whenever there's talk about rent control or whatever I swear the response is usually something like "We tried it in such-and-such a place and it didn't work" and then you look and find out it was, like, a dozen properties and all the landlords conspired to make sure it didn't work.
Weird, that.
Twice a year in Hawaii the sun passes directly overhead and objects cast no shadow. It’s a phenomenon called “Lahaina Noon”
You're full of shit, Hawaiians are just able to levitate coconut milk.
and the post begins
because otherwise it gets kind of visually confusing to parse, which is annoying to some folks, including me
GRANTED not everybody uses the same theme or even the same update. you might have noticed my version of tumblr is earlier than yours (I don't like the new button setup)

#context for this: he didn't actually walk away #he broke his leg in four places and got knocked out #but his first question when he woke up was "is my grandson okay?" #because before the bison charged (some teenagers had been provoking it earlier) #he and his grandson were taking videos and photos of it from a fair distance #they did not engage with the bison inappropriately #< prev tags are important!! #also saw someone else's reblog mention that he did get the bisons attention as it was charging at them so it wouldn't go for his grandson #mans actually a hero for that I'm glad he survived with minimal harm for the hit he took #also they were hundreds of feet away taking pictures so they were being respectful of the animals #fuck the people who antagonized it and put him and his grandkid in danger like that #yellowstone #bison
As a correction I will add: they were definitely NOT a safe distance away.
Yellowstone's MINIMUM recommended safe distance away from bison is 75 feet for this exact reason, because they can close smaller distances very quickly. Still a genuine case of "wrong place, wrong time," because outside of rutting season (for bison, it's summer, which is peak Yellowstone tourist season; for deer, rut is in autumn, so if you hunt/live in deer country, don't assume it's true for all ruminants and let that catch you slipping), you would not expect them to be super close to areas like the dining tables the way this bison was. So by the time this family saw this bull, they were already too close (ballpark, probably 75-100 feet away, is my guess), and it was already too late for them to do anything about it. It's a wild animal. It happens.
Secondly, there is no evidence that this bison had been agitated or provoked by teens. It did CHASE some teenagers earlier that day, because rutting season makes bison aggressive and territorial. We know that's the case because if they had been close enough to provoke this bull, he'd have gored them before ever crossing paths with this 65 year old man, because bison are fast when they're pissed off, and all the teenagers got away safely. Just like this man, it was "wrong place, wrong time."
Thirdly, Carl Isom-McDaniel's broken leg was his femur in four places at the hip and femur head. That's a severe injury that required surgical repair. He's up, walking around, and no TBI, wasn't trampled, so still way better than it could have gone, but the photographer who filmed this encounter and other park attendees nearby had to scream and run at the bison to chase it away from killing this man. So, it's not minimal harm, this is a life-changing injury, especially for an older patient, but everyone is very aware that if you're going to be charged by a bison, this is pretty close to a best case scenario for the outcome.
Lastly: the bison is not going to be euthanized! Park attendees did nothing wrong, and neither did the bull. And no one died. Which is a win when it comes to wildlife. :)

...so, Yellowstone National Park actually covers 3,468.4 square miles (8,983 square kilometers). Of wilderness. Outside. I don't know if you're familiar with that. With "outside." But this is an insane thing to type.
Different reblog from @fatgrowlithe. Perfect commentary. The only two options for this make & model of guy is either suffer 13 Wile E. Coyote Looney Tunes brutalizations, only to die of a secondary infection, weird food allergy, underlying ailment like diabetes or COPD, or a vaccine-preventable disease in the hospital, or they attempt to walk off loss of limb, or both at the same time. Would have sworn this was an Appalachian gentleman off the pics & video, but that's just my regional bias showing, he's from the PNW.
distressing yet poetic that the Door to Hell is located in a country with one of the most restrictive visa policies in the world. imagine a magic portal to a kickass demonic dimension opened, but you had to cross the world, evade the border guards, and break into a whole ass country just to access it. now THAT is a QUEST.
anyway gimme a story about a demon trying to get home to hell but she keeps getting foiled by immigration control
oh, the Door To Hell aka the Darvaza gas crater is a real place in Turkmenistan fyi. yes that really is its colloquial name. for uh, self-evident reasons:
it's a natural gas crater formed by a collapsed cavern. it's been burning for over 50 years!
