A tlok hill I'll die on is that the Earth Queen and Su have like. Massive Beef. Like the only reason they haven't done anything drastic to one another is because, on Suyin's side, regicide is frowned upon and, on the Queen's side, it would be frowned upon if she just wiped out the daughter of a national war hero and leader of one of rhe wealthier city states in the country.
So they're forced to be cordial to each other in public as monarch and vassal. But they are constantly fucking with each other behind the scenes. They're both sending secret agents to spy on one another and playing whack-a-mole with the spies the other's sent to them. Su commits tax evasion purely to spite the Earth Queen. The Dai Li are trying really really hard to master metalbending to be on par with Zaofu's guards. For... reasons.

Thank you, thank you. I did get to make him suffer a little last night, but my own suffering continues with like, day 5 or 6 of neck pain. I'll probably make Tenzin regret being born later just to make myself feel better.

“Hey, no, stop. You’re going to break your fingers punching like that.”
Akira answered with another punch to the sparing dummy, angry tears still flooding his eyes. This was his fault. Inia was in critical condition because he wasn’t strong enough. He had to get strong enough. Two kicks followed before another harder punch filled the room with a cracking sound. That was it, the tears were falling as he cradled his hand only for a moment before punching the dummy again and again and again. Not caring of the damage or pain shooting through his arm.
I really hated this girl in my class and we kept exchanging notes with various threats of violence on them but then on a Zoom call I saw that she kept a bunch of them pinned on her wall with little hearts around them and I got the biggest crush on her after that.

"What happened back there?" Lin eyed Tenzin over Mako's shoulder. He was sitting where she had dumped him in a corner of Su's airship, staring in shock at the dried blood on his hands.
"He… I don't know, Chief. We couldn't stop him."
"Stop him from what?"
"Ghazan." Mako's alert eyes searched her face. "He killed Ghazan."
Lin's brow furrowed. There was no way that was true. She had seen Tenzin spare a flea's life before by putting it outside. Killing a man wasn't something he was capable of. "What?"
"He—" Mako got flustered and looked away. "He smashed Ghazan's head into the corner of a wall until it was caved in. We had to pull him back."
"Why?"
"I don't know."
She glanced up at Tenzin again. He hadn't moved. "Go make sure everyone is okay. Go check on the kids and Korra."
Mako's spine straightened. "With all due respect chief, you shouldn't be alone with him."
All Lin had to do was stare at him.
"Yes, ma'am." Mako walked away.
Lin squared her shoulders and approached her old friend. "That doesn't look like cranberry sauce."
Tenzin pressed his thumb to the pads of his fingers and spoke in a wry whisper, "No, it isn't."
"Do you know where you are, Tenzin?"
His hand stopped moving. He looked up at her, around the room, and then out the window. "The airship."
Lin's lips pressed into a thin line. That was on her. The question was too broad. "Do you know why there's blood on your hands?"
He turned his palms in and looked at them shaking from where they rested on his knees. "Is Pema okay?"
"You already saw her, you know she's fine."
"The kids?"
"You saw them too."
Tenzin kept staring at his hands. "He lied to me."
"Who?"
"Ghazan."
Lin took a breath. "Did you kill him because he lied to you?"
Tenzin shook his head. A tear slipped down his cheek. "He said he did terrible things to them. To Pema, Opal, Jinora… he lied. They're fine… and now he's dead."
Lin felt her skin crawl. She wasn't looking for a statement for a report, she wanted to speak to the man she knew. "Stay right here."
She left and returned with a large, wide bowl of water and a towel over her arm. Tenzin hadn't moved, he was still staring at his hands. She sat across from him, put the bowl on the floor between them, and dipped his left hand into it. Streaks of red ran off his skin into the water, but most of the blood remained stained to his skin. She grabbed the towel and started scrubbing. Tenzin broke the silence while she was working on getting the blood out of the creases of his palms.
"Is Korra alright?"
"Tonraq has her." Lin kept scrubbing until she was satisfied, and then pulled his right hand into the pink water.
