...Also, if you are old enough to be worrying about targeted bullshit like that, you need to start being more focused on ergonomics than aesthetics before that random spasm you have, or that crick in your neck, or your clicking knee, or the way you wake up with numb arms and sore shoulders results in you needing surgery.
Like, guess what, you might need to wear the orthopedic shoes, car neck cushion, crossbody purse, and progressive glasses, and if you prioritize vain delusions of perpetual youth instead, you will pay for it in pain.
If you are a Millennial worrying about what Gen Z youths think is cringe or "cheugy" about your behaviors or dress, I need you to look in the mirror and get a fucking grip. We're pushing 40, if we're not already there. I was not worried about 20 year olds thinking I was cool when I was 20. You're being the Amy Poehler mom character in Mean Girls. (Derogatory.)
"The kids think crossbody purses make you look old!" Their rotator cuffs are half your age. "They think your haircut looks dated!" I am old enough to be some of these kids' mother. "They made fun of my unc shoes!" You logged two decades of mileage on those feet before they were born. Why do you give a shit what they like to wear? Why are you tapped into 23 year olds' gossip about how they don't want to look like their parents, and sales pitches from brands apparently successfully targeting their AND your insecurities about it? LOG OFF.

everyone in ds9 who doesn’t have a starfleet uniform on is at all times wearing no less than six different kinds of upholstery fabric
It's so important to acknowledge the very real and sometimes truly horrible failings of the healthcare profession and the pharmaceutical industry while never ever ever letting them drive us into the arms of pseudoscientific bullshit. This is something I feel really strongly about.

once again cyberbullying, more successfully this time... anybody who says, "what can one person do to change the world?" isn't being mean enough to the right people

thought it was ironic at first but I fear one of my sisters may be earnestly following the vampire ghoul on instagram for his reels about "health" and "immortality"
we live in a timeline where this is not a shitpost btw, I don't mean like a fictional vampire I mean the weirdo Bryan Johnson

Annieo Klaas - Daydream No. 2, 2024 - Oil on canvas
Wow wtf HIV/AIDS was discovered by Flossie Wong-Staal, an Chinese-American woman, and she’s the reason the HIV test even exists. AND THEN she invented the molecular knife that lead to treatments for HIV/AIDS. And she’s STILL ALIVE. We don’t hear about the contributions of Women of Color enough, my word. Madness.
Flossie Wong-Staal - Wikipedia
https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flossie_Wong-Staal
you can always tell a major breakthrough is made by a woman, a woc or any poc because it’s either completely ignored or never credited like it just happened by itself
colored pictures of wong-staal, who died in 2020 at the age of 73
...I know I'm responding to a 6 year old post, as well as comments on said post, but for sake of posterity, I'm going to argue that the reason people weren't made aware of Dr. Flossie Wong-Staal's work with HIV is not because she was a woman and a person of color, but because of the massive erasures of public discussion around HIV and AIDS due to homophobia, racism, and ableism fueling the culture of silence and shame around that pandemic overall.
On top of most laypeople not paying attention to big names in things like virology and epidemiology to begin with, let alone the ways in which they are recognized, acknowledged, and awarded by their peers.
If you can't name Dr. Wong-Staal, it is because you did not look. Likewise, if you can't name five scientists who were instrumental in the decades of development of MRNA vaccine technology, PrEP antiretrovirals, and Covid-19 research and treatments, it is because you have not looked.
Maybe for other medical disease and treatment breakthroughs, you didn't have to look-- you might know the names Pasteur, Salk, even Dr. Charles R. Drew. You might know the name Fauci. But that is because these were figures whose prominent medical impacts were, sometimes posthumously, considered "universal" in a way the general public did not care to treat HIV and AIDS.
There is absolutely a gender and racial bias in which scientists get credit for their accomplishments and get their time in the sun, especially while alive. But saying, "The conspiracy around me not knowing about this HIV research is that the discoveries were made by an Asian woman," when the very obvious answer is staring you in the face, that HIV/AIDS was deemed beneath mainstream notice except as a whispered-about boogeyman, "gay cancer," something that "only fags and Haitians get," or a vicious punchline and narrative consequence for stories about chasers, men "on the DL," and IV drug users-- all that does, at best, is reveal your ignorance, and at worst, shows you to perpetuate the bigotries associated with those real world narratives in service of a persecution complex that erases those pandemic victims all over again to serve somebody else's identity politics and optics.
Unless you can crack a medical history book in person right now, name some of those names, or tell me what recent medical research you're currently, actively tracking, you will always be in that state of ignorance, and proudly declaring that information you have free access to (Wikipedia is free! the library is free!) but never bothered to look at in the first place is being deliberately "hidden" from you is the height of willful ignorance, childishness, and an ugly sense of entitlement to being spoonfed data that was never important enough to you to look for in the first place.
