Consider:
Bob Ross was never a master painter. Decent at what he did, which was landscapes, but nowhere near a master.
Bob Ross was a master artist.
Because his chosen art was never painting. It was using a fairly minimalist TV program to convey the act of painting, the feeling of painting. Including the quiet, meditative, calming aspect of art, as represented by his distinctively soothing narration, and the joy of seeing something on the canvas that looks genuinely cool, and the fact that, yeahâyou can do this too.
(You can, by the way. Follow along with a Bob Ross demonstration of painting of a mountain, and you'll more or less get a mountain. Not one that looks exactly like his, probably one that looks kind of rough the first time, but as you listen, as he explains why this side of the mountain needs to be blue and why you use the edge of the knife rather than brush strokes, you're pretty much guaranteed to start shaping things that look like mountains. Or forests, or lakes.)
Because of the nature of television, Bob Ross's art was, in fact, demonstration of the process. AI can easily hork up something that looks like a Bob Ross painting, but that was never the actual art piece at all.

a lot of machine use
âFor example, if youâre trying to convince people to boycott a segregated store, your object is to convince them that boycotting the store will have a strategic effect, not that desegregation is morally important. For whatever reason, on a cognitive level human beings have a really hard time with this. Smucker cites an example of a Lefty roleplaying session where people were tasked with selling an action to people who agreed with them on principle but didnât see the strategic merit of the action. Surprisingly, the sellers couldnât make the conceptual switch to sell strategic merit: instead, they doubled down on THIS ISSUE IS IMPORTANT â even though it had been stressed to them that the people they were selling to bought into the importance of the issue. People react poorly to âthis is important, so do WHATEVER I SAYâ; they want to be convinced that what youâre proposing will work.â
Source.
Also from above:
âBob Wing, a grassroots organizer, explains this nicely: âIf winning feels impossible, then righteousness can seem like the next best thing.â But righteousness is not conducive to getting normies to join your team if your team cannot demonstrate ability to, at least sometimes, win. Nor does righteousness help you make real inroads with regular people.â
Somewhat related, my favorite comic strip of all time:
I try not to fall into the "I never liked their work anyway" ditch when an artist/creator reveals themself to be a terrible person
BUT
a feeling I do have and will stand by is "While I enjoyed their work overall I did have some gripes that I overlooked out of affection and whimsy, but now that my loyalty is gone and my affection tainted there is nothing holding me back from enumerating my many grievances, to which the revelations of the creator's shittiness may or may not provide a new and infuriating context."
#such a good summation of this actually#because yeah thereâs usually things that were always present#but which were easy to overlook or give the benefit of the doubt#that suddenly become relevant after a revelation about the creator#and itâs really not the same thing as the self-defensive ââI never liked it anywayâ

âIt just means you have to work double as hard as most people!â
Well maybe I donât WANT to work double as hard as abled people!! Maybe I deserve a BREAK!! Maybe Iâve been working MORE THAN double as hard for MY WHOLE LIFE and itâs led me to immense burnout & caused me to develop several MORE disabilities!! Maybe I should be ACCOMMODATED so I donât have to KILL MY BODY AND BRAIN over trying to do what abled people can do!! Maybe I DONâT have to work double as hard!! Maybe if thereâs the option to let me NOT work double as hard, I should have it, because Iâm already working double as hard JUST TO SURVIVE!!
Why do you think disabled people deserve less rest than mentally & physically abled people?
US climate with equivalent cities from around the world.
This is the greatest map I have ever seen. I want an interactive version where you can click on any city in the world and get a pop-up list of all the climate-equivalent cities.
so it turns out this exists and it makes a fine rabbit hole for passing the time during a conference call
OK, this is super neat and also a great tool for writersâ

Reblog if you think the person you reblogged this from deserves to be happy.
Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a âsexyâ (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itâs kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyâre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their âopponentsââ accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenâs education charity via each sideâs portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the âfreedom of expressionâ side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
From now on this is how all petty fandom disputes should be settled.
Health classes really ought to teach people what the beginning stages of addiction are like because a lot of people donât realize theyâre addicted to something until theyâre years deep into it.
Signs you might be getting addicted to something:
If you go without it you feel unwell in a way that you never usually feel unwell. Sweating, tired, sleepy, headaches, irritable, depressed, etc. For example when I was in opium withdrawal I got incredibly depressed in a way that Iâve never been before or since. When you quit caffeine you might get super bad headaches even if you never usually get any headaches.
Thoughts of it regularly bother you and the thoughts go away once youâve taken it but only temporarily. Unlike with a food craving which usually stays away once youâve satisfied it or distracted yourself from it.
You find yourself rationalizing with yourself why you should break your own rules about how much you can take and how often. For example you might only let yourself drink alcohol every four days but start thinking that three days is actually close enough to four days, right? Especially if this happens regularly.
Youâre using it so often that you feel the need to lie about how much you use because other people might think itâs concerning
If the substance or activity is nearby itâs genuinely difficult to not consume it or participate in it in a way thatâs really frustrating.
You feel bad when youâre not on it and your brain tells you âif you just take the thing you wouldnât feel this wayâ
You can only feel âwholeâ or ânormalâ when youâre on a substance even though itâs a recreational drug
And if you read this and think you might be addicted to something, donât panic and donât feel ashamed. Realizing youâre addicted to something isnât a failure. Itâs more information about your health that you can use to manage your condition, whether you want to get rid of your addiction or not.
need a million more videos of specifically this
i like to believe they perform every task no matter how small or casual like the Absolute Most and the dramatic background music just follows them around diegetically
Koe exists entirely because of this video btw
Hey, SPark, it's Synfony. I need to do some repairs on the Drabbit. I don't suppose you remember which grey fabric you used? (also hi hello how are you it's been awhile i hope you're well)
Well hello! Unfortunately the fabric I used was very much a one-off, and I've long since run out of even scraps. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would be a good match.
And yanno, life is weird and crazy and sometimes awful, but also sometimes awesome. So it could be worse. :3
