I love this video... going to put it under the read more because it sucks (cw misogyny, racism, unfunny 'comedy' question mark). probably don't bother actually watching unless you want the full experience. But it's amazing. The woman in the audience doesn't say a single word and the comedian just unravels. Her silence becomes increasingly unnerving to him; he starts making up things he imagines she would want to say to him, rambles about how even her friend is trying not to laugh (cut to her friend's expression which is just tired annoyance), spirals into a rant about how she wants to take away his freedom of speech and would freeze his bank account if she could, eventually fantasizing about her getting gangraped (with some extra racism thrown in there). I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”
