This is wild to me because I used to work for a manufacturer of driver assist tech for cars. The system we used was a combination of camera inputs AND multiple LIDAR sensors, and it was only approved for lane keeping and maintaining distance from the car in front of you when cruise control is on. Pedestrian recognition was a prototype feature still being tested but nowhere near being released. Using only composite camera inputs as a duct-taped together shortcut for depth perception, expecially for pedestrians, just really seems doomed to failure from the outset.

I can’t begin to express the difference it makes just that I’m able to wear exclusively t-shirts, baggy shorts, and flip-flops. And the thing is, right. What you notice is that I’m wearing something slightly odd for the weather. What you don’t notice is that I’m not curled up with my hands clamped over my ears because socks make the clinking plates in the restaurant too loud.
