as we see reprisals of Y2K skinny culture (as part of fascism) people are making a lot of posts like ‘if you’re too young to remember, it was so toxic. people shamed [skinny woman] for being fat!’ and perhaps it’s useful to bring up someone like kate winslet circa 1999 being fatshamed to express how truly dire the situation was/is but i find it increasingly frustrating that the response seems by and large to be ‘wow that’s awful! she wasn’t even fat!’ [so clearly that was wrong!] and not the real point: ‘so imagine how horrible it was for actual fat people, who also don’t deserve the far worse treatment they got/get.’

tl:dr if your response to fatphobic bullying/harrassment is “but they’re not even fat,” you have not gotten to the core issue. you haven’t even considered the core issue.

lots of people in the tags pointing out the same thing about transphobia and especially transmisogyny where instead of centering trans women in conversations about transmisogyny, it turns into defending cis women who are mistaken for trans women like “and she’s not even trans!” instead of saying “we shouldn’t treat trans women that way.” you’re not derailing you’re 100% correct

it is so fucking vile seeing people continue to treat sexual violence and victimization as the epistemological property of CAFAB people just as a given in their rhetoric. listing "rape"/"corrective rape" offhandedly as an example of "transandrophobia" as if everyone listening is already in agreement that trans women aren't subject to any kind of coercion and sexual violence, let alone realistically much more of that violence on average, is such a common tactic from these people and it's just utterly repulsive

i think about this especially every time the concept of "victim credentials" is levied re: who has a right to speak on abuse, or the family, or trauma, or censorship, or kink, etc. etc. i am against the idea that "only *survivors* have any right to talk about this" or the related "[consensual sex act] is ONLY excusable as a coping mechanism" for a lot of reasons (trauma does not enlighten you & expecting others to disclose their victim status on the internet is. lol) but it's especially stark to me that these are popular conceptions among circles that launder transmisogyny via nebulous accusations of promoting rape culture or more direct predator accusations which all inevitably rest on the mass sexual harassment of their targets -- targets who they implicitly consider incapable of being survivors themselves
