Songs with the same bpm but played over different than original video tracks give me life
the best part about this is that it absolutely does encapsulate how it feels to be in America for the 2020 holidays

National Geographic on Facebook: this is a facial reconstruction of a teenage girl who lived 9000 years ago based on her remains!
half the comments: men criticizing her looks and saying she’s unattractive and mannish
anyway this is the reconstruction and I always enjoy seeing the faces of prehistoric humans and how much we have in common over thousands of years despite how incredibly different our lives are. I support her and I think she looks wonderful.
everyone in the replies of this post saying “well I think she’s pretty!” missed the whole damn point lmao
I remember watching a documentary once where historians were trying to work out who a dead girl was and what her life was like. I’m pretty sure they dated the body back to the early Victorian era, and established pretty early on that she lived in poverty, died young, and was most certainly a prostitute.
The grand finale of the show was the reveal of her reconstructed face. Now, bare in mind that through their investigations they discovered that she had lived an awful life and died an agonizing death (syphilis iirc). So, you can imagine my disgust when the historians reacted with disappointment at the reveal of her ‘face’. This poor girl, who had suffered terribly, was obviously not the poor, tragic beauty they had been hoping for.
She was plain, maybe some would say she was ugly, but what was truly hideous was the fact that you could practically see the sympathy these historians had for this poor girl slip away as they looked at her ‘face’, and you could certainly hear it in their voices.
Even in death our value rests on the basis of our looks. Sympathy is conditional - based on where you fall on the looks scale.

#Hermes: he’s dead Dionysus you don’t actually have to do this #Dionysus [polishing his giant wooden dildo]: I made a PROMISE (x)
This is the also the myth of the creation of the dildo. And in some versions of the myth, Prosymnus’ soul was so overjoyed, that he was transferred to Elysium. That’s right, Dionysus rode Prosymnus’ pseudo-dick so good that he was moved to the Blessed AfterlifeTM
dionysus: can’t believe prosymnus died before I could keep my promise to let him bone me the nymphs: you don’t have to, you know dionysus, oiling up the world’s first dildo: no I’m gonna
Prosymnus’ soul literally ascended
Dionysus: What do you desire as payment brave psychopomp? I will give anything in my power as a god. How about a lyre that plays itself? Or a font of endless wine?

The thread attached
[ID: A tweet thread from @ brandleminaj that is in response to a tweet asking “What radicalized you?”
When I was 11 my mom let our neighbor use water from our hose bc his utilities were shut off (he was elderly and living of off SS). Apparently this is illegal, and the cops came to shut our water off as well. It cost $400 to turn our water back on.
My mom didn’t have a job at the time and we couldn’t afford that. I’ll never forget watching the police turn the water off on a single mom and her kid in the middle of the summer.
All of this because we wanted to help our neighbor. All of this over water. That’s why I refuse to believe there are “good cops”. You got paid to wake up and take away water from people already struggling against poverty.
In retrospect, I think about this memory all the time. That my mother and I had the natural instinct to care for our neighbor and we were punished for that.]
REPRESENTATION MATTERS.
THIS RIGHT HERE
You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.
I want to drill this into everybody’s head:
The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system
Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated
Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.
If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.
Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.
one of the first laws that needs to go when we abolish the police nationwide is loitering laws. there’s absolutely no reason the state should be able to arrest and fine me for like. existing in public.
and it goes without saying that these laws are used to target black people as well as the homeless
And laws against sleeping in cars. Not only is it used to target homeless people who may have no choice but to sleep in a car, it is also very dangerous and promotes driving while tired.
loitering and vagrancy laws are rooted in the black codes that were enacted mainly in 1865-6 following the civil war explicitly as a means of arresting free black people and incarcerating them as a source of involuntary unpaid labor to replace the institution of slavery that had just been abolished
To learn more about the history of the black codes, I recommend the documentary Slavery by Another Name, which is available on Kanopy for free if your local library has access to the service.

PSA: no name is impossible to pronounce. no name is too hard to learn, no name is justifiably butchered. kids with 'different' names should be taught again and again that being called by their name is a right, not a privilege
