What would you define as "supporting trans ideology"? because simply the act of having friends who are trans and respecting whatever name or pronoun they wanna be called is not the same as supporting the cotten ceiling
I would define it as actively supporting the idea that sex and sexuality can change via transition.
Simply having a friend that identifies as trans and respecting their name, and even using the pronouns they want used is harmless. Especially the name…I really don’t see any issue with calling somebody by the name they prefer. There’s so many reasons somebody might not want to go by their birth name: abusive parents, named after a family member they don’t like or was abusive, simply doesn’t like the sound of it, goes by their middle name instead, etc. It’s not that big of a deal. I understand it’s frustrating when some 50 year old man wants to be called Daisy because it affirms his belief that he can be a woman…but also it’s just a name. And names are just a collection of sounds, they shouldn’t be gendered in the first place.
But when you start actively affirming the idea that your male friend is actually a “trans lesbian”? Or that your female friend is actually a “trans gay man”? You’re now supporting the idea that sexuality can change with a simple declaration of “I’m trans!”, and you’re encouraging heterosexuals to invade gay spaces. Which leads to the cotton ceiling and boxer ceiling rhetoric, as both are born from that initial thought of “I’m gay, so why aren’t other gays attracted to me? It must be because they’re transphobic!”. If these entitled hets weren’t showered in endless validation and affirmation of “yes of course you’re soooo valid trans lesbians are lesbians and trans gay men are gay men and anyone who disagrees is evil”, I don’t think they would have been emboldened enough to push this shit on homosexuals.
I assume this anon is in good faith…but I want to gently say that I’m really tired of having to explain this. Respectfully, use your brain. Of course simply being respectful to people who identify as trans isn’t the same as supporting their misogynistic and homophobic ideology. Same way that being respectful to religious people isn’t the same as supporting their misogynistic and homophobic ideology.
It’s the enabling that’s the problem. The “yes, of course you’re a woman!” To misogynistic men. “Yes, of course you’re gay!” To heterosexuals with a fetish for gay people. The more they’re enabled, the more bold they get with this new form of power over groups they already oppress (women and homosexuals).
It's also important to remember that homosexual people are a legitimate minority. There are definitely more heterosexual males with a lesbian fetish than there are actual lesbians in the world - and it becomes a very dangerous situation for lesbians when you put male feelings above the reality of female homosexuality.
It didn't used to be the case that there were more heterosexual women with a fetish for gay men than there are gay men in existence, but it is very quickly heading in that direction with all this gay hockey shit, as well as all the feeble minded girls watching gay anime and allowing themselves be drawn into the fantasy of becoming 'soft boi twinks' or whatever.
