i find the way some women interact with female/lesbian characters a little mind boggling because on one hand they seem to equate “women on screen” with feminist activism (like how people immediately think diversity in media is activism when that’s not always the case), but they also can’t handle complicated female characters or even choose to straight up ignore the existence of female characters completely. i added yuri in my yaoi and it’s so weird when people act like the f/f couple is somehow more pure and progressive than the m/m couple when the reader literally chose to read bl over gl. they could have read any gl but they chose to read bl instead, and then they cheer when there’s a lesbian couple in a bl…? idk how that works. it’s almost like they only accept lesbians and bi women characters/narratives when it’s convenient for them to pat themselves in the back for how “feminist” their media consumption is. it’s like when women who are obsessed with male sports anime want women in their shows… they literally chose to watch a show full of boys and then they lament the lack of girls in it idgi. i even see people say the gay sex in bl is nasty and that there should be more of the lesbians in the story and i’m like… there are so many gls for you to read and you’re literally choosing not to read them. also why on earth are you choosing to read nsfw bl when you think two men fucking is disgusting what the
