The trouble is, there are many people who could have been allies who have taken this at face value and now believe that it’s dangerous for kids and start freaking out because the reports say they’re giving hormone treatment to children as young as 10 but that’s only because they’ve reached a certain point in puberty and there’s a massive risk to their mental health if they don’t take the treatment which has been proven by 40 years of medical use on cis children to have no long term consequences.

The endocrinologist who was meant to be an expert witness specialises in diabetes treatment and has no clinical experience even working with trans people. Another expert witness was as neurologist who made false claims about puberty blockers even though she was not qualified to do so and has taken part in meetings of Women’s Place UK, an openly transphobic organisation.

They also say they have concerns that most children who take blockers go on to take cross sex hormones but neglect that fact that the only children who are prescribed blockers have gender dysphoria. Part of the diagnostic criteria is that it has to be ‘persistant’ so yeah, of course the dysphoria will persist until they’re old enough to take cross sex hormones.

This case is not based on science, it’s based on prejudice and transphobia.
