whenever the conversation about difficulty and accessibility in games come up i want to slam my head into a wall because noone thats speaking has anything more than a surface level understanding of what "difficulty" even is

your game should have accessibility options, but if your only accessibility options are "turn off central game mechanics" then you have made shit accessibility options.

bonus points: if you put a game speed slider in your game you can also allow Absolute Fucking Freaks to turn it higher than 100%

Related accessibility necessity: if you make a game that has flashing or strobe effects with no way to turn them off it is also not an accessible game. A photosensitivity warning is not good enough; there is NO reason why a video game shouldn’t have this option and it can literally save lives.
