we're over halfway through 2026. what are everyone's most beloved books of the year so far?

I agree but I think some soft pushback there is warranted and it basically boils down to "easier said than done." like, yeah, ok, I know women aren't inherently supposed to be soft and subservient, but from my youngest age, my default fight-or-flight reaction has always been fawn. my voice always gets higher and sweeter when I'm nervous. my instinct is to make myself smaller when I am afraid, to be polite to people I perceive as a threat. these are things I am actively unlearning, behaviors I actively wish to no longer do, but they are also ingrained trauma responses.

to be clear this was about people who seem to use it as some kind of conversation-ending "this is just how i am forever". if you are actively unlearning it that is THE EXACT kind of action i'm talking about! those are the next few steps i mentioned! not one-and-done. obviously.
