Also say what the fuck you what about how Taylor Swift should be taxed (she is taxed, they invented a whole ass tax for her in Rhode Island) and I agree she should be. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have donated $26 million to charities, a rep announced, prior to their wedding.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have donated $26 million to at least 20 charities this week, a representative announced, in advance of a wedding reported to be taking place this weekend in New York.
The pair have still not officially acknowledged that nuptials are about to take place, and even the announcement of the charitable efforts does not mention the wedding, though it’s clear that the donations are part of this week’s celebrating.
The 20 charities include a number of food banks in different cities, educational programs and children’s hospitals or medical programs.
The announcement simply says, “This week, Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift donated $26 million to charities across the United States. They include the following…”

in hindsight it's kinda funny that taylor used to worry that her songwriting was directly tied to her misery and pain. this girl was thirteen years old writing about everything under the sun whether she'd experienced it or not; she wrote about feelings she imagined, experiences she perceived in others, and stories she straight up fabricated. that well of inspiration is tied to your imagination, girl, not your sadness! and i think it's really beautiful that being with travis has been a factory reset of sorts where she's once again free to write about the full human experience without hinging that creative output on her status as a tortured artist, when that was never her ethos as a writer to begin with.
and this is what i love so much about showgirl. it captures the full experience of taylor's life during a period of time without revolving around one cataclysmic event.

and you know what’s funny? there’s just so much classism in the choices people want her to make and in the choices her and joe made back then. like she used to pretty exclusively go to private rooms at restaurants, member’s only clubs, and sit in private boxes at plays.
with travis, they occasionally do that, but 9/10 times they go to restaurants that normies can go to and sit in the audience with the normies at plays and shows. like i don’t think people realize that to have the sort of life that they think is sooooooo private and classy, they’d pretty much never see real people. and this is a big way that wealthy people become out of touch!!!!

and you know what? if i say that the idea of having her wedding at a place that is famous in sports and music history AND is a place she dreamed of playing as a kid AND is a place nobody else will have their wedding at because they’re not her (aka instantly giving her an iconic and unrepeatable wedding) was a part of it too, y’all would be mad at me.
it’s not just the privacy and security. that’s a big part of it!! but that’s what so many fans are clinging to because they resent the implication that taylor likes being famous, and likes her position in the world. it’s also about what it represents in terms of what she and travis have been chasing all their lives in their respective fields, and her hard-earned legacy as one of the biggest artists of all time.
I was thinking this: Taylor’s interest in women like Elizabeth Taylor makes so much sense because someone like Taylor can learn from how they both leaned in and protected themselves in the media. Even the wedding is giving off gilded age party in a good way: coveted invite, media attention, little actual known info about the event. If you look at historical contexts, what they’re doing is the way it’s always been done.

I wrote a couple of weeks ago that I was reading East of Eden on your recommendation. Took me almost all month, but I finished it today (summertime has my reading schedule a bit off). Enjoyed it, but I don't think I liked it as much as you did. Still a great read, and glad I read it. My book club is reading The Grapes of Wrath later this year. I read that one in high school (think I chose it from a list of recommended summer reading). I do remember liking it back then.
oh interesting! was there anything specific that disappointed you or fell flat, or did you just not gel with it? thank you for trusting my recommendation enough to give it a go, i'm glad you still enjoyed it even if it isn't a new favorite! i've decided to read his entire bibliography so i'm gonna read cannery row this month and then probably try to save grapes of wrath for next summer.
