I am a huge fan of retiring to my quarters
In this economy you'll be lucky to retire to your nickels
often procrastination is described as putting something off because you're afraid you won't do it as perfect as you imagined it, specially in study or creative contexts, you put off starting on an assignment because you set a high expectation for yourself and you're so afraid the real thing won't measure up... i want to extend the sentiment to being afraid period, afraid that you will mess something up big time if you try to do it, afraid that you'll put yourself in danger if you go out or drive or cook right now, waiting for the right moment when your head is clear enough to do things safely, but what if the moment doesn't come for days, weeks... and everyone thinks you just don't care, but you're trying to avoid an accident, you're trying to avoid making a bigger mess than you started with, you're worried you will hurt your friends if you are not present enough to react to their art and life stories with the care and attention it deserves, you're worried you'll break your favourite mugs when you try to wash them, you're worried you'll forget the pot on the stove, it's tough
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
Here he is, the Aldi Cowboy
"christian characters in movies are poorly written because the writers are atheist" "atheist characters in movies are poorly written because the writers are christian" stop fighting. all human experience is poorly written in movies because the writers are californian

Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

I rlly like the emphasis that live action one piece is putting on the fact that literally nobody else think about piracy the way luffy does. "Being a pirate is about being free and having friends :3" while every other pirate is doing legitimate career criminal shit around him.
Luffy the Piracy Understander when his crew suggests stealing a ship:
A lot of people who hadn't seen One Piece seemed to think it was full of pirates that don't actually do any pirating. This is in fact inaccurate. Most pirates in One Piece do lots of piracy. Hero Luffy, who does zero piracy while speedrunning becoming one of the most wanted criminals on the planet because he keeps beating up the immensely powerful men, women, and government agencies that interrupt his fun globe-trotting treasure hunt with his friends, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
Luffy should still be counted. The crime of Piracy in the One Piece world is simply flying a jolly roger and not complying with the WG. It's precisely why his speedrun of becoming the most wanted man is to an onlooker who is not in a suffering country makes Luffy seem like a legitimate threat. He's "stolen" many things, they're just not tangible.
The system of making privateers work for the government and thus give them an edge to stamp out piracy? He beat 3 of them within 2 years. The one he beat first is what left a vacuum in the first place to bring about another horrifying pirate who also had a quickly escalating career within the last 2 years (in-world). He "stole" the idea that this system worked.
Those 3 pillars of impregnable justice fortresses that serve as the base of the navy, the highest-level prison and the judicial island? He invaded all 3--all within weeks of each other--and "stole" that they were impregnable.
See these already kind of notorious pirates that had high bounties and were threats? He stole them and they work for him now.
"But that's not what actually happened!" you might say.
But Luffy is the protagonist of the story, we see things mainly from his perspective. To most onlookers, that is not what it looks like. He is a true threatening pirate.
...but also that world government is full of shit and is a great representation of how victors write the history, but that's another story and Luffy don't care about that shit one bit. He just doesn't like that they're assholes.
…huh.
I think going too deep into anything should warrant a balrog. You scroll too far down on your phone when you should've gotten up an hour ago, you've spent all afternoon sleuthing to figure out why your mom's former neighbour whom you haven't seen since you were 15 and don't give a fuck about got a divorce, you've been ruminating the same situation over and over and over, and a big fuckass beast thing shows up to stop you because you have delved too deep and now you have to fight the balrog.

gambling platforms whose ads automatically open when you try to scroll past them i just want to know your precise coordinates latitude and longitude. oh no it's not for me it's for my orbital laser cannon yeah no don't worry about it it only likes to fire the vaporizing beam of pure heat and light and wrath at things that are Really annoying and predatory and evil. yeah no you have nothing to worry about probably it's really good and nice and won't turn your company headquarters to ash unless you give it a really good reason to.
actually your odds are pretty good that you giving the cannon access to your coordinates will make you sooooo much money and not reduce you to a crater and a smudge on the surface of the earth. so yeah coordinates please now as soon as possible
interesting! after i made this post the gambling ads i see constantly stopped opening on their own. is there something wrong with my orbital laser cannon. you can say. i won't cry. much
its interesting to me how peoples desperation to delegitimize anything they dont agree with by implying its christian in nature has resulted in people saying things like hating pedophiles, having feminist or anti-racist beliefs, or Not Supporting Sex Traffickers are all inherently rooted in christian ideology. which is incorrect to an almost unfathomable degree
usamerican soldier STUNNED into silence when he learns that his willing and paid participation in the murder and neocolonization of foreign people is a huge red flag to everyone with a conscience
tbh think if ur gonna give the like button a trans flag animation you should like stop banning trans women en masse, among other things. like as a requirement.

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is “international” pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isn’t our pride, it’s theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that “you owe your rights to Black trans women” is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) Māori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa don’t even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we don’t.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. i’m truly sorry that most of you don’t see the negative impact your nation’s culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and culture’s queer history, don’t accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
