May I request 31. Adopting a pet together for Hiccup and Astrid?
The Thing was barely more than a pair of glowering, green eyes set in an abyss-like black face as it cowered in the shadowed corner. He pushed closer, curious verging on hostile—the Thing hissed, flashing sharp, white teeth. He went closer still, feet light on the floorboards—to which the Thing reacted by lashing out, a paw with needle-like claws flying towards his face.
Toothless jumped back—the Thing's claws, even when fully grown, were no match to the thick dragon hide, but it was the intent that counted. His shoulders hunched menacingly, Toothless growled.
"Toothless," came her displeased voice, "play nice." She stepped between them, crouched down and picked up the Thing, to which it gave a plaintive meow, but did not protest. Toothless, his ear twitching, sat back on his haunches and looked at the tiny Thing in her hands, its bushy fur standing up in all directions, as if it had just been pulled out of a Nightmare's mouth. Or a Terror's, given its size. "Bygul is just as much part of this household as you are."
Toothless harrumphed, unimpressed. The Thing meowed again—it suspiciously sounded like a protestation of innocence, as if it were a mere victim in their altercation and not an active participant—, to which she leaned down and pressed a kiss to its head. And so the Thing started purring. Purring.
While looking smugly at Toothless.
Toothless had no issue with Hiccup bringing her to their den—she was his mate after all. But the Thing, who came the day after she moved in, with a ribbon in its neck, was never part of the deal—but it seemed like the Thing was here to stay, so he'd have to make peace with it.
He just hoped there would be no more unexpected and annoying additions to their flock.
