hey, I hope this doesn't come across as aggressive, but would you mind explaining why you're not anti-porn? I had always thought that most porn exploited and harmed women (I think the advent of onlyfans and similar platforms that let women make their own content has helped, but I still think that if UBI were introduced and people weren't desperately trying to pay their bills, very very few people would actively choose to be in porn). I don't want to agree with conservatives about anything, but as far as I can tell, they denounce porn in public and then use it anyway in private, so ultimately they seem to be in favour of it. is it possible for porn to exist that's not exploiting or harming women? if so, do you think it's possible in a capitalist society?
short answer: you can be against the mainstream porn industry without being against pornography as an artform (and whether you like it or not, it is a form of artistic expression)
all labor is exploited under capitalism, all work is coerced by threat of poverty and death; the film and TV industry, for example, is also highly misogynistic and exploitative of women, actresses undress for money and fame every day, have their bodies strictly policed, are monitored and controlled constantly to maintain their image - but are you anti-film? many sex workers LIKE their job and want to be able to do it SAFELY, like anyone else!
because porn is a medium, it's like a genre - it's not just cam models and pornhub; your smut novels are porn, your home sex tape, your nudes? are porn, furry yiff comics, ero yaoi/yuri manga, weird ass fetish shit where you never even see a body part is porn - to be "anti-porn" implies being against any depiction of sex or sexuality in art
and listen, there is absolutely 100% a misogyny (and transmisogyny holy shit) problem in mainstream porn, especially that made for straight men - it's often violent, degrading, and intentionally politically charged, I've seen some vile shit that I can't even mention here, okay? sex trafficking, rape, exploitation are serious problems - but they start outside of porn, the misogyny in porn is a reflection of the misogyny already present outside of it, it does however reinforce it and that is a vicious cycle that harms women
but my final point is also - by volume that is not most porn, though it is often the most popular (again, this is disturbing reflection of existing misogyny being reinforced) -- the most common porn videos online are solo dudes jerking off vids. gay porn does not typically involve women. homemade amateur porn is literally just having sex with a camera on. was I exploiting my fwb when i recorded us fucking in her car (with her consent)? in what way is working in porn any more exploitative than other performance or physical labor jobs? the most common human trafficking in the usa is for labor - construction workers, farmers, cleaners, hospitality
i am anti-capitalist, i am anti-misogyny, but i am not anti-porn because "anti-porn" is, in my opinion, a reactionary and reductive response to the complex issues surrounding bodily autonomy, sexual freedom, (sex) workers rights, censorship, and misogynistic violence
