To jump onto this bandwagon, The fact that traegorns suggesed alternatives are A) Between 40-120usd in fees or B) Requires you being between 13-26 shows complete disregard to well, anyone whose from a lower income country or over the age of 26. Its silly to expect someone in Laos or Indonesia to spend the equivalent of 1/10 to 1/6 of a average months wage just to read one book. None of these people were ever actually going to buy that, and libraries in many poorer countries are slim to non existent. I saw that traegorn added a article describing most pirates as educated middle class people, but this article seems to be very UScentric and also doesnt take into account physical book piracy, only digital. I'm starting to get reaaaallly tired of these moving goalposts. pretty much every metric we held ai to 5 or even 2 years ago have been surpassed. yeah, data centers are genuinely an issue as far as i can tell, but yall have got to stop pretending that human brains can magically do things without training data, and that AI is never able to produce novel outputs (think new thoughts). LLMs have solved so many unanswered math questions by now. people keep erecting new barriers and fields that AI will never be able to pass and they keep getting blown away. they're starting to sound like people who said that humanity would never be able to fly, even though we observe birds in nature. you know what else we observe in nature? intelligence
