New evidence has emerged of U.S. Coast Guard activity in the aftermath of two strikes, further corroborating survivor testimony.
The prosecutor investigating US boat strikes and torture allegations in Ecuador was assassinated.
We uncovered NASA images and videos of the US Coast Guard that corroborates the victims’ testimonies. Then, the prosecutor working the case was shot and killed in broad daylight.

Book piracy is selfish and stupid.
It's weird when someone who has access to libraries says libraries are inaccessible. Because for the vast majority of people who pirate books they ARE accessible. And if you live somewhere they aren't THERE ARE LIBRARIES THAT HAVE OPTIONS FOR NON-RESIDENTS
Resources to expand library access to those who don't have it -- your guide to libraries for non-residents and digital libraries with non-re
Let's be honest here: most book piracy is done by people who are at least middle class and can either afford books OR have access to a library.
And 99% of the time it's BOTH.
"It's weird when someone who has access to libraries says libraries are inaccessible."
It's weird to care about poor rural people? :/
The resources are very cool, and I will concede that point. I wasn't aware there were libraries that did non resident cards
Though, I don't know how accurate that 99% is and even if it is accurate I don't really care? That one percent deserve access to information too.
I still stand by my pro piracy stance too, because there is inevitably going to be someone, somewhere who cannot access a book at a library (yes, even with all the online libraries too) and they still deserve access to media, books included.
As I said, for rural readers there are literally resources available, but your incurious ass instead chooses piracy. Let's break this down the easy way-
As someone whose books have been pirated: why the fuck do you think you're entitled to my labor.
Cool, those resources you shared still cost money.
You still have to have an address.
This isn't about your labor half as much as it is access to information.
@traegorn With respect, your publisher has more (and more direct) control over your labor and its compensation than literally every single book pirate combined. If you're going to invoke the language of class consciousness, be aware of who your class enemies are and direct your aggression accordingly.
Great. Who is my publisher, let me check... "Nerd & Tie"
Who owns Nerd & Tie... let me think.
OH WAIT.
THAT IS ALSO ME.
I'M AN INDIE AUTHOR.
And for the trad published ones, their residuals and future contracts are directly linked to sales. You are primarily hurting authors when you pirate books, period. Which is, again, fucking stupid because libraries exist and you're too lazy to get Libby.
As for you, @eldritchgray -- who is this imaginary homeless rural reader you're inventing? I'm just going to be honest and say you don't know shit about rural areas if your gotcha is a supposed homeless rural reader who isn't already relying on a library in some way, shape, or form.
And, again, most book pirates are between 18 and 34, are highly educated, and average over $60k in yearly household income. Poor people use libraries already. You're using this strawman of a rural poor person to deflect.
Ah, so you're petit bourgeois. In that case, your aggression is correctly targeted at your class enemies. My B ;)
I had never heard of OP before this afternoon, but I can now proudly report that I have robbed them, going off of Amazon listings, of over US$50 of sales value. And all without leaving my desk! The life of a lazy, selfish, moronic book pirate is a pleasant one.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go do whatever it is upper middle class people do. This surprise upwards mobility is an unexpected but welcome bonus. Maybe I'll put that $50 I saved towards buying 25 tumblr badges.
To jump onto this bandwagon, The fact that traegorns suggesed alternatives are A) Between 40-120usd in fees or B) Requires you being between 13-26 shows complete disregard to well, anyone whose from a lower income country or over the age of 26. Its silly to expect someone in Laos or Indonesia to spend the equivalent of 1/10 to 1/6 of a average months wage just to read one book. None of these people were ever actually going to buy that, and libraries in many poorer countries are slim to non existent. I saw that traegorn added a article describing most pirates as educated middle class people, but this article seems to be very UScentric and also doesnt take into account physical book piracy, only digital. But to be fair, its comforting knowing that no matter what, americans will always be ignorant of others.
ngl i’m just gonna unfollow anybody who reblogs that “Elliot Page gets better roles from Nolan now that he’s a man” post. at some point y’all are gonna have to understand that it isn’t like subversive or funny that Christopher Nolan respects men more than women and the fact that Page has been getting better roles since he came out should be a smoking gun about male privilege
it’s just “trans inclusive misogyny” all over again. If you think about it for more than a second, the entire joke revolves around how 1. funny and surprising it is that somebody would take a trans person’s gender at face value and 2. that misogyny is hilarious if it benefits trans men specifically.

"Mario Mario" is an anachronism. He and his brother were only ever referred to by mononyms in their lifetime, like most residents of the Mushroom Kingdom at the time - multi-part names were typically reserved for members of the Toadstool dynasty, and even these were more like titles or Roman cognomina than what we would call a surname today. His putative ennoblement as founder of the "House of Mario" came centuries later as the collapsing feudal order sought additional sources of legitimacy
#mushroom kingdom folklore says that he sleeps beneath a warp pipe to arise in the time of the kingdom's greatest need #he's definitely shown up a few times but it's hard to tell if he has risen from the dead or is just in the middle of some time travel shit #historians hate him.
While the historical evidence for Mario having a younger brother is quite concrete, the name of said brother is less certain. "Luigi" is generally held to originate with a separate figure from a series of chthonic myths, who originally served as a sort of psychopomp charged with capturing spirits that escaped the underworld. The strongest case for a contemporary figure named Luigi comes from the Waffle Kingdom sagas; however, this Luigi's brother is a gladiator named Gonzales.
now I know that there's no way for me to respond to this without a bunch of fans of the modern adaptations ruining my inbox for the next week, but there's no evidence of Waluigi - or indeed Luigi - in any of the contemporary versions of the Mario-Wario sagas. The name "Wario" itself is a later invention, held to be a pun on warui that likely emerged after the adoption of Japanese scripts in the Koopa States.
The conflict between Mario and his "boyhood rival" was one over political influence on his home island and Mario's long absences - in particular his trip to Sarasaland. While later Sarasan sources would heavily reference Mario's brother, he is absent from both the preceding narrative and the unrest in Mario's homeland. The historical consensus is that the Sarasaland journey was one of Mario's earliest wanderings, with his brother attempting to manage affairs in his absence and proving unfit. The invention of a separate "Wario" character and its development into an explicit coup d'etat were later poetic creations, as is distancing of the "Wario" figure from the later depictions of Mario's brother as the more cowardly and reserved "Luigi".
(As an aside: "Mario Land" is a mistranslation. The original Mushroomer and Sarasan chronicles are better translated as "the land of Mario", without connotations of ownership. The modern scholastic consensus is that it refers to Yoshi's Island, where Mario and his brother spent their youth and later established a small manor, not, as commonly depicted, a "Mario Castle". The emphasis on Mario as king of "Mario Land" was a mostly successful political maneuver by the Yoshis to retain coequal status with the Mushroom Kingdom heartlands in the face of 18th-century expansionist pan-Mushroomism.)
The later emergence of "Waluigi" is an ironic recombination of two figures from the same historical source, and may have originated as a farce parodying the Mario stories. (The name "Waluigi" is also conflated with the early Norman figure Varr Yngwi, who is generally credited with the invention of tennis.)
at this point if LLMs are stochastic parrots im some kind of useless kiwi or perhaps dodo
I'm starting to get reaaaallly tired of these moving goalposts. pretty much every metric we held ai to 5 or even 2 years ago have been surpassed. yeah, data centers are genuinely an issue as far as i can tell, but yall have got to stop pretending that human brains can magically do things without training data, and that AI is never able to produce novel outputs (think new thoughts). LLMs have solved so many unanswered math questions by now. people keep erecting new barriers and fields that AI will never be able to pass and they keep getting blown away. they're starting to sound like people who said that humanity would never be able to fly, even though we observe birds in nature. you know what else we observe in nature? intelligence

TME people mad about shit that's not worth being mad over: "Stop calling Kurt Cobaine she! That's gross! That's bad! That's evil! That's based in pure speculation!"
Kurt's songwriting journals: "I'd be able to be happy if I was a woman. I wish I could grow breasts. People are really mean to women and I identify with their struggles heavily for some reason. Probably nothing to do with *whatever* has led to my deep, inescapable depression. Being forced to be a man is killing me."
The people who knew Kurt: "Wow he'd really have loved this yuri manga stuff, especially this one called the boy she was interested in wasn't a boy at all."
TME people mad about shit that's not worth being mad over: "You creepy perverts just want to forcefem everything because you're creepy perverts! Not everything is about you!"
I mean, in some very interesting Technically Correct ways, they didn't actually die? Now, they're very much no longer alive. But the forces involved are such that they didn't get any of the usual cellular processes of death, they simply went from biology to physics in less time than it takes a signal to travel down your optic nerve.
if you go from biology to physics without dying first you don’t go to heaven the uber driver went over this already

cafab athletes and their fans are more misogynistic than competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee (the one for the gamecube)
for those who don't know, this holds even at the highest level of competition—Magi, Salt, and Mof are all in at least the Top 20, and Salt will definitely be in the Top 10 when new rankings come out. for scale, Power Rankings cover the Top 100 for a given year, and getting on the board at all requires serious competitive wins
Melee gamers have managed to cultivate an objectively less transmisogynistic scene and competitive culture than "women's sports"

wow it's soooo wacky and zany that a man is professionally benefiting from misogyny by being a man, including preferential treatment by other men such as his boss at work, that's just so unusual, what a crazy twist, so wholesome chungus allyship that a man treats another man better than women
