Okay for those of you living in pitiful ignorance, take a raw ear of corn with the husk on and cut all the way around the base (as pictured: above the point where the husk meets the cob, so that the entire husk is severed but still wrapped around the corn. Do not cut through the cob.) Then, with the husk still on, microwave it for 5-7 minutes. It'll basically steam it inside the husk. Remove from microwave --it will be hot, so use a mitt or a towel--and firmly pull the top of the husk/silk, which should come off easily in one piece, unsheathing a flawless corn on the cob. If it doesn't, you probably need to cut a little higher around the base, so all the leaves are severed. No picking off silk!

I think a great way to improve communication with kids (and adults) is to make every yes or no question a this or that question.
I started doing it when after brain surgery my husband had trouble forming responses to questions for a while, and realized that the habit was helping my students engage more truthfully with me.
Some examples:
Yes/No: âDid you clean up your room like I told you?â
This/That: âDid you clean up already, or do you still need to do that?â
Yes/No: âAre you going to sit quietly?â
This/That: âAre you ready to sit and do our quiet activity, or do you need some time by yourself first?â
Yes/No: âAre you doing anything fun for your birthday?â
This/That: âAre you having a party on your birthday, or are you going to relax?â
I think many children (and adults!) are averse to telling adults âNo,â especially when a command is implied. (âDid you clean your room?â âAre you going to sit quietly?â Hmmm if I say ânoâ I will be in trouble with the adult.) So they are actually pretty likely to just lie and say what they think you want to hear.
Presenting a this or that question provides an alternative to lying, a âno, butâ scenario where they are presented with the reasonable consequences of a No (âif youâre not ready to sit quietly, you cannot do our quiet activity with us yet.â)

Occasionally I see people(1) in the comments of posts(2) saying that if people are misunderstanding the OP(3), that must mean the post(4) was poorly phrased. But(5) it is nearly(6) impossible to phrase anything in a way that 100% of the audience(7) will understand(8). If most(9) responses indicate they understand the OP(3), the phrasing is probably(6) not the issue. At a certain point, you(10) have to learn to stop and consider whether your(10) first interpretation is the only or most reasonable interpretation. Trying to spell out(11) anything that anyone could possibly misunderstand quickly becomes unwieldy(12)

I do think that one day weâre going to have to talk about how âautism momsâ are victims too but weâre fr not ready and probably wonât be for a very long time. but iâll just say thereâs a reason there arenât âautism dadsâ and itâs not bc women are uniquely evil towards autistic children.
this would also require us to have a conversation about the appropriateness of âautismâ as a diagnosis for such a wide variety of presentations and the fact that over-inclusion makes things functionally meaningless. bc a lot of the demonization of âautism momsâ (and dgmr I fundamentally disagree with autism moms but listen) hinges on the fact that low-support needs, functionally just socially awkward autistic people dominate the narrative obscuring that there are aggressive, nonverbal, extremely high support needs children with only an âautismâ diagnosis and all of their care is falling just on mom bc there is absolutely no social or behavioral support network for these women, nevermind functional social services.
like⌠of course they want a âcureâ⌠of course they resent their children. theyâre functionally trapped. their entire lives revolve around the care of these kids (who often physically hurt them) who they are completely unequipped to deal with or help with absolutely no end in sight. theyâre not right in their conclusions but you can see why they want to believe them. you can see why they are desperate for a way out if you only just consider for a second that they are human beings being utterly failed by society and not just evil monsters who hate their kid who likes trains a little too much.
and while weâre at it weâll probably have to talk about self dxing as autistic as a form of ânot like other girlsâ-ism and moral superiority/virtue signaling which led to these âsocially awkward at bestâ types becoming the face of autism and further obscuring and demonizing these mothers who are genuinely suffering and need support. if autism is just Better Than You Disorder then ofc thereâs no reason for anyone to feel bad for âautism momsâ, theyâre obviously just mean girl karens fulfilling their role in your perpetual persecution complex, after all, youâre âautisticâ and youâre fine! you donât need significantly more support or resources than your mother alone could ever hope to provide for you.

My beef with weed btw is that people act like itâs not a mind altering substance and so will get high every day, go to work high, drive high, without realizing thatâs itâs similar to getting buzzed every day, first thing in the morning. I donât want to hang out with people who are high cause I donât like hanging out with people who are drunk. Also, Iâve lived in apartments for years and weed fucking stinks and people who smoke it are inconsiderate.
