Record Plainly What You Believe Or Someone Will

Thanks to @about-that-teenie-girl2 for the poll request! I will have to adjust the wording to account for people who used to menstruate but no longer do, but the question will maintain its meaning, don't worry!

NOTE: All you peeps who used to menstruate but don't any more, whether that's because of taking testosterone as part of gender transition (as is my situation), menopause, eating disorders, hysterectomy, or any other reason - I tried to word the question to account for every nuance, but if I haven't succeeded, then I apologise. 🧡

men and women are somewhat similar in iron demands up until 14 and then a huge change at 19 onwards. 19 year old+ men need around 8mg of iron a day. so like. a single large, or two small steaks. of course you get iron from things other than beef, and they'll likely get enough on any normal daily diet.

women need 18mg of iron a day and TWENTY SEVEN when pregnant. that's over TWICE the male requirement for your entire life and over three times when pregnant. THATS A LOT?? look at ur own diet for a minute and i promise you, unless ur going crazy on oats and chickpeas or something, you are NOT getting enough iron. probably not even close.

and I'm mind-blown by this because somehow, culturally, meat/red meat seems to be a more stereotypically masculine thing. when eating out, women get a salad and men get a burger or a steak. you google "person eating steak" and vast majority of results are men - when there are women, they've also got a cute little salad on the side, meanwhile men tend to have plates full of meat. (seriously. go google this. it's crazy)

WOMEN: YOU NEED TO EAT TWICE AS MUCH IRON-DENSE FOODS THAN UR BROTHER, UR DAD, UR HUSBAND ETC. MORE THAN TWICE AS MUCH. NO WONDER YOU FEEL FUCKING TIRED AND WEAK ALL THE TIME.

This line of reasoning seems compelling, but to foist it on Rowling and the Potter series seems unjust.  For one, Rowling does a great deal of borrowing in her stories.  She followed established conventions, endowing her dragons with fiery breath and wings, giving her trolls dim wit and powerful clubs, and her goblins with short stature, hooked noses, and greedy manipulation—archetypes that existed well before Rowling ever put pen to paper.  Perhaps Rowling drew her goblin based on the goblins in the Nineteenth Century poem “Goblin Market,” in which goblins lure and trick with “evil gifts.”  Or consider JRR Tolkein’s goblin—“A foul creature…slightly smaller, sometimes hunched over or appearing to walk and run with limps.”  Or just look up goblin in the dictionary and you find a definition that largely resembles Rowling’s creatures.  Perhaps the goblin character has its origins in anti-Semitism, but Rowling can hardly be convicted of unjust commentary for using a now-familiar Western literary character. Additionally, the debate over whether the goblin character has its roots in antisemitism is wholly unaligned with Rowling’s professed views on Jews. In 2004, Rowling visited a Holocaust Museum and compared the hated “mudblood” and “half-blood” terms used in Harry Potter with the antisemitic propaganda of the Nazis: “If you think this is far-fetched, look at some of the real charts the Nazis used to show what constituted Aryan or Jewish blood.”  Rowling has also gone on record saying that her evil character—Lord Voldemort—is modeled in part off of Hitler.  Both comments won her comments of praise from Jewish organizations.

To Light, Crime was the source of society's "Rot." And his philosophy on what constituted "crime" was basically about normal-ass people who were willing to break the law. you know, the laws Cops enforce.

It also explains why he's indiscriminate rather than surgical. Because of his own biases, he never stops to consider the flaws in the methods of who gets arrested, or how that never actually seems to have an impact on Crime Rates tm. Cops (like Light) simply see this as evidence that they're not arresting enough people! That they're not going far enough! And these are the values our protagonist was raised with. A surgical strike would let Real Criminals off the hook, while targeting people who, yes, may be more evil by orders of magnitude, but they do it in a LEGAL way!
