Exactly. Thank you @hoovesandfloorpaws and @cat7369! It means they chose to enforce that clause when it suited the narrative the label/management wanted to push.
So, when it was time for Louis to switch from being “always stay at home dedicated boyfriend” to “party boy Louis,” all of a sudden, he was out getting sloppy drunk and bringing “a van full of brunettes” back to his hotel to smoke weed.
Because, of course, the first version of him was better for business 2011 through 2014 (and provided a way to fight the idea that he and Harry were a couple). The second version was the type to have an oopsie baby with a random girl — which was better fur business 2015 to present. And it provides another layer of separation from Harry. And it becomes an easy screw to turn to gain compliance from both Louis and Harry.

But Harry casually mentioning in June 2022 the fact that they had cleanliness clauses in the band, was insane and it’s something he did purposefully.
It obviously was to give people insight into himself. But I think it could also have been because Louis was just starting to pick up steam with his new “dad of the year” image which, IMO, started because of boobgate.
The intense public focus that fiasco brought onto babygate was a problem, and Louis needed to fix it. IMO, his feet were being held to the fire over legal clauses being enforced.
Image clauses can be a big deal. And having major attention to Louis being seen as a guy who never saw his supposed son, didn’t pay child support, and caused the mother of his child to find a sugar daddy to buy them groceries, an iPad (and new boobs 🙄), made Louis vulnerable.
If you don’t know much about BOOBGATE, there’s my tag. It was insanity leading up to articles being written about Larry, closeting, fake babies, extortion, and a disgruntled sugars daddy headed to court asking for a DNA test.
We thought it was done on purpose and leading to the end of babygate, but it was the beginning of Louis having to become dad of the year. Hopefully Briana and the Clarks paid a major price, too. But Louis seems to be the one who is shouldering the heaviest burden.
