That's what I always wonder Athy
an interesting twitter thread. these are only some highlights, the thread is far longer and more exhaustive: you can find it here. i suggest you go read it
Itâs kinda scary tbh⌠imo it gives non US governments the chance to do some real shady shit. Because everyoneâs eyes are on the US, not them. If they wanted to, they could slip through the cracks because theyâre not the orange clown or the sleepy old man that everyoneâs busy giving their attention to.
Itâs what allowed Canada to get away with SO MUCH Bullshit over the years.
But yeah. I think AS AN AMERICAN that itâs long past time people stop looking to US as some kind of standard, especially itâs media or social media exports, because that shit doesnât even represent MOST Americans, let alone the world!
When the BLM protests happened in the USA, there were violences against cops here in switzerland because 'all cops are bastards'.
Generalized police violence being an unheard of thing here, and black people being a minuscule part of the population. Very useful.
People in switzerland literally confused switzerland and america. There seems to be a certain kind of cultural overload. This is by far not the first time this happens.

Is it just me or does the frame rate get higher when you step inside a Costco
Itâs because everything comes in bulk there and costco has really good object instancing so it only has to construct the VBO for each kind of product once and then reshade it for individual instances, which gets you a big framerate improvement over the parking lot where one million unique cars are in view at any given time
i dont understand this and do at the same time

Love logging on to tumblr dot com and seeing posts about why libraries should be Cancelled because they donât pull problematique books
Also letâs be real, Problematic Books are one of the strongest arguments for librariesâ continued existence?
Letâs say you need an outdated queer theory textbook that uses biphobic and cissexist rhetoric for your gender studies thesis, but you donât particularly want to own that book.
Letâs say you need a primary source to strengthen your argument to your college as to why a certain political figure does not deserve to be a speaker at your graduation because they perpetuate hate speech.
Letâs say you and your friends want to hateread a book by your least favorite author but you donât want to give him your money.
You deserve the ability to access that content legally without having to purchase and own it. And so does everyone else, no matter how suspicious you might be of their motives for reading a Problematic book.
When I was doing my masters in library science, they reiterated over and over: there should be something in a library to offend everyone. Believe me. There are books in my library that I find offensive. But my job is to provide access. Not to question WHY people need stuff or to judge them. Libraries should function as a neutral space. We are providing information, which in and of itself is neutral. Itâs what people DO with that information that matters. And even then, itâs not my place to judge.
When I was in college, I was doing a paper for an African-American Studies class, and I found myself suddenly in need of info on exactly what sort of self-justification white people were using during the days of slavery.
And I found one in the college library. An original slave-ownerâs apologia from eighteen hundred or so.
Nasty stuff. But studying the mechanics of evil is a useful pursuit. One that has relevance in todayâs world, certainly.
(My African-American Studies professor thought so too; he gave me an A.)
The point being, no matter how bad a book is, there is value in preserving itâif only to demonstrate, âThis, this right here, this is a bad thing.â Mein Kampf? Worth picking through to note the psychology of a depraved leader. (Did you know that Hitler framed every damn thing as a war, including farming, which he characterized as wrestling food from an unwilling land, or some such bullshit? Might be a characteristic worth paying attention to. Be cautious about leaders who use âwarâ rhetoric for things that arenât actually wars, such as ⌠oh, to pull an example out of a hat, how about âdrugs.â) Slavery apologia? Leans heavily into Biblical justification, from the one I read, so maybe, just maybe, we should examine Biblical justifications very carefully. Even the worst stuff teaches us things.
Which is part of what a library is there for.

Iâve been there! This place is called Interlaken, in canton Bern, in Switzerland. If you look at the cows here, you can see that they are white with beige spots. I donât know the name of the race, but you find them everywhere around Bern and theyâre adorable.
Interlaken litterally means âbetween the lakesâ, because the city itself is between two very lakes that are very close to each other: the Thunersee (lake of Thun) and the Brienzersee (lake of Brienz). I did a walking trip from Thun to Altdorf (way over in canton Uri) with the scouts last summer and part pf the journey was going past the two lakes. It was long, but beautiful.
If you ever go there, i recommend that you visit the BeatushĂśhlen (St-Beatâs grotto). I did amd it was amazing.
Thatâs the only real thing we did there, though. We were just passing by. One thing to know about Interlaken is that itâs a pretty village, but thereâs not that much to do there. Itâs mainly a a place where foreign tourists arrive to get to other places.
If you want to discover Switzerland, Iâd have other suggestions, namely:
If you want some peaceful and pretty landscapes, you can try going for a stroll in the Urschweiz (cantons Nidwald, Obwald, Uri and Schwytz)
If you want some beautiful rural places, with cows and all, you should try Bern or Appenzell.
If you want beautiful violent nature thatâll try to tear your face off and breathtaking mountains, you can try either GraubĂźnden or Wallis.
Speaking of which, if you want to go skiing, Wallis, Vaud or Bern are your go-to.
If you donât like rural places and you need to be in a city, i definitely recommend Basel, Luzern or Bern. Basel has an incredible Christmas Market which I recommend you check out at least once in your life.
If you want to see the jet, go to Geneva.
These are what I can recommend from my experiences.
Now Iâm itching to make a lesson about the geography of my own country ahah.
Reblogging for the answers to all the questions I had after watching this 11 times
I don't think anti-feminists automatically don't see women as human, some of them just overreact whenever someone wants to make some broad statement about women that is positive. Which is exactly what feminists do when men are the focus.
So basically you're all hypocrites.

i love getting emails from those petition websites
Youâre laughing. The scientists are crying and youâre laughing.
in addition to the fact that people just have different natural rhythms, a big reason why we canât seem to go to bed as early as we âshouldâ is that nighttime is, for many of us, our safest and most fulfilling time of day. we donât have to work, we wonât be contacted by bosses or insurance companies or collection agencies or other suffocating life business⌠weâre likely only to be contacted by our friends, or by no one at all. night time is release; itâs ours. we can rest or recreate. we can do things we actually want to do. who would choose to cut that short?? just to usher in the next morning when our lives are not our own again? nighttime is precious and nothing could be more normal than the desire to embrace this
So, yâall remember that post that said animals in urban areas slowly became nocturnal to avoid encounters with humans? Apparently that includes humans.
if it ainât me
Umibe no Etranger
god i just found this again while folder cleaning
one of the few crossdressing ducks that didnât make me break out in hives, on account of not having been forced to do it for emasculating reasons or anything, itâs just a practical solution to daisy having too many obligations since they look exactly, and i mean exactly the same
one of those obligations was manning a kissing booth for charity and donald punching a catcaller in the face escalates into guys just fucking lining up to get decked by a cute little duck
get on his fucking level, mickey
#mickey: whoâll have to endure this humiliation#donald: whoâll get to wear the pretty dress
GET ON HIS FUCKING LEVEL, MICKEY
Donald is a crosdressing king
theyâre just as creepy but the level of violence enacted by men who fetishise wlw is much much greater than women who fetishise mlm. seeing this kinda shit literally days after two lesbians were attacked in london is likeâŚâŚ sickening
Uh. No. This shit needs to be seen. Mlm esp mlmoc (east Asian esp) are violently fetishized by straight women. A lot of that fetishization is racialized. This is a real issue and discussing it isnât takint away from lesbaphobia but you getting mad at this post for going around, when it is needed is homophobic.
They are equivalent just done in different ways. Discussing one does not take away from the other.
DISCUSSING ONE DOES NOT TAKE AWAY FROM THE OTHER
kpop. bts. yaoi. get real lmfao
Jikook, Yoonmin, Taekook. These were the most popular ships of 2019.
These are of real people.
Fetishizing of gay men does exist.
If you wanna see how bad it can get. Letâs discuss Larry, Harry and Liam.
These rabid fan girls. Believe that this âshipâ was real, so much so they destroyed these twoâs friendship, bullied Liams wife, and tried to pass Baby Gate. Where they believed that the baby was a ploy in order to hide Larry.
Girls take it a step farther with this shit. Itâs just seen as quirky and usually dismissed.
lesbophobia: haha girls r so hot *jacks off*
homophobia: men are not allowed to be friends, i am going to personally harass living human beings for months if not years, i am going to literally personally harm people like dude a rando jacking off to porn means fucking nothing compared to actual honest to god harassment what is wrong with yall

Idk who needs to hear this but it's actually super normal and healthy for cis people to want to bend gender roles and/or avoid having them applied to them, and those feelings alone aren't a sign that transition is right for you or that you are a gender other than the one assigned at birth.
Gender roles oppress anyone who doesn't perfectly fit into male or female stereotypes, it's natural to want to break them. Also breaking the rules is just exciting and it's kinda fun to think that strangers are wondering what you are or that you're offending the people who don't want you to break the rules.
Heartbreaking scene from the film
Schindlerâs List (1993)
OK LEMME TELL YOU STRAIGHT UP ABOUT OSKAR SCHINDLER. Â Everyone knows the story, right? His protected workers? Â How none of his ammo worked? Â The full story is a lot more complex and a hell of a lot more breathtaking.
He wasnât a saint. in fact, he was a bit of a douche, all things considered. Whored around on his wife, worked for the Abwehr, he was a member of the nazi party - not a particularly devout follower, but because he was a big fat remora fish who realised this particular shark could give him business opportunities, and if he wined and dined the upper crust that scored him even better ones. Â He realised very quickly he could make an absolute killing on the black market and dove in headfirst with the profiteering. Â Hell, he initially hired Jews in his factory because nazi strictures made them much much cheaper labour than hiring normal Polish labourers. Â
But the thing is, once you start surrounding yourself with a particular, persecuted demographic, you begin to notice things. Â You hear things, things you arenât insulated from. Â You begin to realise something.
And Oskar Schindler began to dimly grasp what was happening and he realised that it was not something he could countenance.  And his whole gameplay changed. He no longer wined and dined for business opportunities, but to protect his workers.  He went flat out fucking balls to the wall to rescue a group of his workers from the jaws of Auschwitz, and built them a âcampâ that offered at least the barest of human comforts, right under SS supervision.  He moved his entire fucking factory to save his workers, he realised an SS-provided list of names was left with blank spaces and just started filling in more.  He blew everything he had made profiteering and scheming to protect 1200 people because he found that there was a fucking line and it had to be drawn. He arranged for three thousand Jewish women to be moved to textile factories in the Sudetenland to give them a chance of surviving the war.  He blew all his money, resources and time on feeding, caring for and trying to protect as many Jews as he could.
After the war he failed every business venture he tried. Â He became a raging alcoholic, surviving on donations sent by Schindlerjuden. Â According to some, he traded the ring gifted to him by his workers for Schnapps. Â He died in relative obscurity, almost penniless.
He wasnât a great man, or a saint. He was an average schmuck, and spent most of his time fucking around until he abruptly found himself in a situation where he couldnât.  He almost stumbled into his decency.  But once he had, he absolutely took hold of it,  and directly because of him 8,500 people are alive today.
Never, ever doubt the ability of a single human to RISE.
This guy is Giorgio Perlasca.
He started out a fascist. Right from the beginning. He fought in East Africa during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, and in the Spanish Civil War. He was awarded a diplomatic mission from fucking Francisco Franco.
Then, he starts noticing things he doesnât like. He doesnât like how close to Nazis theyâre getting. And then, in 1938, racial laws against Jewish people are passed in Italy and that is when he realizes that fascism is a pile of shit, and that he fucked up, but at that point heâs in too deep. He had a duty to his country, he thought, and worked to aid the army. What else could he do?
As it turns out, a lot.
On 8 September 1943, Italy surrenders to the Allied forces. Italians had to choose whether to join the fascist Italian Social Republic or side with the Allies. He chooses the latter and, due to his status as a veteran in the Spanish Civil War, he obtains political asylum at the Spanish Embassy in Budapest, changing his name in âJorgeâ.
That could have been the end of it for him. He could have stayed safe and comfortable until the end of the war. He did not.
Perlasca worked with the Spanish ChargĂŠ d'Affaires, Ăngel Sanz Briz, and other diplomats of neutral states to smuggle Jews out of Hungary. The system he devised consisted of furnishing âprotection cardsâ which placed Jews under the guardianship of various neutral states. He helped Jews find refuge in protected houses under the control of various embassies, which had extraterritorial conventions that gave them an equivalent to sovereignty. They could provide asylum for Jews.
When Sanz Briz was removed from Hungary to Switzerland in November 1944, he invited Perlasca to accompany him to safety. However, Perlasca chose to remain in Hungary. The Hungarian government ordered the Spanish Embassy building and the extraterritorial houses where the Jews took refuge to be cleared out. Perlasca immediately made the false announcement that Sanz Briz was due to return from a short leave, and that he had been appointed his deputy for the meantime.Â
Throughout the winter, Perlasca was active in hiding, shielding and feeding thousands of Jews in Budapest. He continued issuing safe conduct passes (initiated by Sanz Briz), on the basis of a Spanish law passed in 1924 that granted citizenship to Jews of Sephardic origin (descendants of Iberian Jews expelled from Spain in the late 15th century).Â
In December 1944, Perlasca rescued two boys from being herded onto a freight train in defiance of a German lieutenant colonel on the scene. The Swedish diplomat-rescuer Raoul Wallenberg, also present there, later told Perlasca that the officer who had challenged him was Adolf Eichmann. During 45 days period from 1 December 1944 to 16 January 1945, Perlasca helped save more than 5,000 Jews.
After the war, he returned to Italy and lived a quiet life. He told no one what had had done in Hungary - not even to his wife, who got the shock of her life when a group of Hungarian Jews finally found him in 1987, only five years before his death. When asked why heâd done what he did he just answered -Â âWhat would you have done in my place?â
He started out a fascist. He became of one the Righteous Among the Nations.
You donât have to be a saint. You may have been on the wrong side. You may have made choices that are bad and stupid and just plain wrong. You donât necessarily have to even be that good a person. But sometimes it comes down to one choice and one choice only and sometimes, despite everything, you just do the right thing.Â
They are called the Righteous for a reason. Not because they were saints (most werenât), but because they were able to see wrong in the world where others looked past it, and not only refused to be party to it, but opposed it with their lives. We are all capable of Righteousness. Â
