Okay i know i sound like a fucking shill for this company so let me preface this by saying i wore doc martens religiously from age 12 to about age 30, when i found out that they’d discontinued the doc marten work line entirely. I LIVE in lace up combat boots. And i’d just resigned myself to a painful few weeks every time i’d get a new pair because they took so long to break in.

Solovair is actually a company that split off from doc martens originally, and they still have that kind of WW2 slimmer combat boot design even in steel toe. The soles are replaceable, unlike Docs. And they took less than 48 hours to be broken in. I cannot say enough about how much i love these fuckin boots. And they’re about 50-100 USD more expensive than docs, but they completely eclipse docs in quality.

maybe the one thing to note is that all of their shinier leather (the ones that aren’t labelled ‘greasy’) have a polyurethane coating for extra waterproofing. I don’t mind it because i like my boots looking a little busted, but diehard leather folks hate it because it means you can’t condition them easily. I’m pretty sure shiny docs have the same thing, but that’s like the one criticism i’ve seen.

#i went through so many boots trying to find ones that didn’t hurt #red wings and fryes did nothing but chew up my heels #but i fucking love my solovairs bury me in my solovairs #five years of daily hard wear (working 8-12 hr shifts on my feet) and i’m just now getting to a point where i’m gonna get them re-soled

#my partner and i solved this by making one big basic meal for the week #and just supplimenting with like salads or different sides #i honestly don’t know how people do the cooking every night thing it would make me walk into traffic #last week was shepherd’s pie #this week is green curry #this probably only works if you’re neurodivergent but we both are cool with eating the same thing every night #we just picked our favorite meals to do it with and i learned how to make ‘em #i’m most proud of my saag paneer because it’s not even a dish i normally like but the one i make is bangin #sometimes if i’m feeling good i can even manage to make naan or roti #we also regularly get scraps from his fancy restaurant which is nice cause it’s usually proteins #it’s also probably the only way we can afford to eat haha rice my beloved
