Deltarune chapter 5 positioning Pink as a "big sister" and seeing how much she dotes on Orange really makes me question how much we actually knew about the dynamic between her and Mettaton or Napstablook. We know they're family and they live together but we never really see them interact, do we?

Undertale has Mettaton so happy and fulfilled and the "Mad Dummy" is so all over the place that I think it made people automatically think of Mettaton as the "older sibling" who has it all figured out, but now in Deltarune, with the super-content way Pink acts in the dark world vs how sad and self-isolating Mettaton is as a "nobody", that dynamic is pretty much completely reversed... Another instance of Deltarune mirroring Undertale.

Come to think of it, the whole reason Mad Dummy fights us in Undertale is because we were "mean" to the ruins dummy, isn't it? I guess Pink always had a doting, protective side to her.

In Undertale, Mad Dummy avenging their cousin feels like it's being taken as an excuse to fight, as they do it regardless of what you actually did to the ruins dummy and can't remember their name.

But they were an unhappy mess when this happened, and once she's happy with herself she not only acts as a big sibling for Orange, but says to never fight when you instead make a friend.

Yet another mirror to Undertale; from being unhappy in their body and half-heartedly avenging a cousin as an excuse to fight someone, to being happy in her body and lovingly protecting an (adopted?) sibling while telling her not to fight someone if you don't have to.

Mad Dummy and Pink really are the peak of "saddest man enby alive vs most beautiful women you've ever met" in every way.

I realised that this was previously said in the tags after I had already wrote this out, but Mettaton not only lives with someone whose met Kris and been invited to castle town (Pink), but also with the current only police officer in town (Napstablook).

A copy of that tape could extremely easily end up being seized by the police as possible evidence for Asgore's disappearance, which Kris and the Shelter Gang wouldn't be happy about.

And if Carol is indeed in on what's going on, she might have to take the tape from the police. Which wouldn't be hard (Napstablook wouldn't put up much of a fight) but sure would be suspicious.

thinking about the time a former housemate said to me "hey I put these box fans in the living room because it's hot" while gesturing to the fans that I was actively sitting in front of because it was hot. and I said "okay thanks." and she kept standing there like she was waiting for something else so I said "am I blocking the airflow? do you need me to move?" and she said no I'm just letting you know they're here, in the living room, for circulation. and I said well yes, I did put that together. I am enjoying them. thank you. and she looked confused. so I asked "am I meant to do something with this information or are you just informing me?" and she said no I'm letting you know they're here because It's Hot In Here. she seemed a bit aggravated, and her emphasis seemed deliberate.

it took me asking three more times before she finally told me she wanted me to leave the fans where they are instead of moving them to my room or something. and I said oh! I had no intention of doing so but thank you for letting me know what the expectation is.

about a month later she brought up that conversation as the moment it actually clicked for her that I Am Autistic And Will Not Magically Intuit The Unspoken Request You Didn't Ask Me.

I have observed enough allistic communication to know that generally, if somebody points something out to you that you can already see or are already clearly interacting with, they are making an indirect request. but as I don't know what the request is, the only way forward is for me to guess (and likely get it wrong), or prompt the allistic to tell me clearly what they need.

however, allistics don't realize they do this, so asking them to say the unspoken surprises and confuses them. this is not their fault. allistics can be quite emotionally fragile and perceive directness as confrontation, so they habitually rely on indirect speech and coded language to preserve others' feelings. this is why they may find it difficult to be direct, even when asked. I have found that with enough gentle encouragement and reassurance that they are actually helping you, you too can achieve successful communication with your allistic friend or loved one. :)

#rebecca sugar has gone on record saying that they knew from the beginning they wanted ruby and sapphire and they put every inch of planning#in to make sure that the studio could not take them out. sugar has said they’d compromised on hundreds of things they’d wanted for steven#so that they had the bargaining power specifically to keep ruby and sapphire’s relationship#and a number of ‘filler’ episodes were created just to establish counter-arguments that might come up when they pitched the wedding episode#the one that comes to mind is the episode about steven and connie getting lost in rose’s room steven’s central conflict about liking their#fave book series’ romantic ending was later weaponised when producer’s were like ‘oh but steven’s a boy he won’t be too interested in them#getting married’ sugar was able to be like ‘no. in this episode it’s established he loves romance and specifically weddings. and in these#episodes it’s shown how much steven cares about ruby and sapphire and their relationship and happiness. you cannot convince me this is not#good and necessary plot development#and they wrapped it up in the season finale and the big climactic point of the diamonds finally coming to attack earth to make the#episode integral to the series no skipping it without confusion. and had ruby wear a wedding dress because international censors took#advantage of her design to give her a masculine va#and sugar made certain that everybody knew This was a queer love story that an entire town supported and admired and that any child watchin#it at home would know they are not alone and that that support is waiting for them out there somewhere#sugar sacrificed the wider story they wanted to tell for that and it was a horrible decision to be given but they made the right choice

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

And then I got older and learned things on the way, and found people asking me questions that were straightforward, but the equivalent of "Why isn't it obvious to everyone that there is only one right way of doing the thing...?" and I would reply, "Well, it's not as simple as that..." and watch them decide that I probably didn't know what I was talking about.
