while the work of envisioning society without police is worthwhile, it is not necessary that each of us have it at the tip of our tongues, it is easy enough to say "not this."

because, after all, the goal is not to, as individuals or some vanguard, have the answers, the goal is to solve these problems and build new societies as a society, collectively, we offer processes, not answers.

the answers, we'll figure them out together, for now, abolish the police, we are not safer for having an armed gang that enacts racist violence with impunity.

Sometimes her sprints last for like 4 or 5 seconds and she can shoot herself off the couch or into a wall if she gets a grip with her back claws. If she does it next to a wall, her head smacking into it sounds like someone is trying to break into the house. She doesn't wake up.

A lot of us are fairly chronically online (I am... sometimes that, though I try not to be), and it's so important to remember that not everyone is. And we get such bad takes from forgetting this.

Some of them that I've seen [CW for mention of death and implicit genocidal violence]:-

actor A (who rarely uses social media) didn't congratulate actor B for an awards win on social media, therefore actor A definitely didn't congratulate actor B at all and is a bad friend

actor X doing an advert for an awesome charity definitely hasn't donated to that charity herself (because otherwise she'd have said on social media, which she never uses)

charity M is letting the people of country N down for not condemning country O loudly enough on social media (said in a comment to a devastated/devastating post by charity M on Instagram about doctors working for them being killed in country N by bombing raids by country O; this is the worst example of this problem I've ever seen, just so damn horrible)

everyone who doesn't share this post is a bad person who doesn't care about this issue (regardless of what they might be doing offline)

person G hasn't made their personal growth from mistakes they've made in the past obvious on social media; therefore they have not grown and aren't truly sorry (a delicate one because sometimes a person really hasn't grown but sometimes they have and blanket assumptions are... unwise and unkind)

(I'm aware that example 3 is infinitely worse than the other four! But it is an extreme manifestation of the same problem.)

Social media is not all of anyone's social life (or shouldn't be, anyway!), all of anyone's activism (ditto), all of anyone's anything. "Pics or it didn't happen" as an attitude is a dreadful way of going around assessing someone's worth or actions or decency.

Wrt activism specifically: being pulled into an exhausting hole of reblogging posts on tumblr etc. as your activism risks shattering you for stuff that is more useful. As you can never rule out bad actors on social media, that may in a few cases be deliberate. I advise against it.
