The issue with AI generated content isn’t that it isn’t “real art”.

The issues with AI generated content are the scraping the process incurs in, and the contexts in which that art is used (to pay workers less, to produce non-consensual nudes, to plagiarize…).

If anyone had ever drawn fanart of this moment, I would use it with credit but without asking them for permission and you would not have a problem with it. But nobody has ever drawn fanart of this moment. No concept art of it exists. The only images of it are screencaps of an Xbox 360 game, with Xbox 360 model and texture quality, where no single frame actually captures all the elements of the event (the laser only fires when nothing else is in frame, the Savior and the demons getting lasered are never in the same frame, the lighting is really bad and the Savior's details can't be made out). In order to use this card I designed, I have exactly two options:

- I can use Gemini to synthesize the pose and framing from one frame, the laser from later on, and the detailed design from a frame where it's clearly visible, redraw it in a more painterly style, and create an image that does not look like complete shit and conveys what moment the card represents.

- I can use an X360 screenshot that looks like complete shit and doesn't actually get across the visual of the event it depicts.

If you create because you want to "be a creative" that's fine I'm sure but it has nothing to do with where I'm at - I create because I want to have a creative work. The reason I don't use AI for illustrations is because I don't need any illustrations. If I did, I'd use AI.

Actually I did. In particular, what stood out to me was the section about how Harry had a habit of making personal attacks on the writer Steven Moffat and how those issues mirrored the issues with how he depicted Miles and Kerry. How I thought that bit was him taking advantage of the hate surrounding them in that unique situation....and it turned out: No, that's just how Harry is. He just makes personal attacks. Lines up actually- he exposed Internet Historian for plagerizing the Man In Cave video from a Brental Floss article...but decided to dilute his actual point by making personal attacks.

Honestly, it reminds me of how my opinion on the Jello RWBY video changed. I originally thought it was some of the worst shit ever and how it was uniquely bad. But then I watched some of his other STiB videos and his ranking videos and I realized: No, there's nothing unique to the RWBY video. It's just his usual STiB shtick, I just knew enough about RWBY to feel when he screwed up. Same with Harry: While I knew he was just vomiting up common complaints, I thought he was being unique with the personal attacks. But no: Again, I just knew the RWBY discourse enough to know the issues.

Yes, the main reason why Brexit succeeded was English (not British, there's a big difference there) nationalism and fear mongering. And yes, leaving the EU basically destroyed the UK's economy.

But that economy didn't collapse because of a lack of Polish immigrants. Poles (and other peoples I'm greater numbers) have kept moving to the UK. The UK's economy is in the shitter because they had spent decades building themselves up as part of an integrated European economy and suddenly they weren't part of it anymore.

And the reason why Poland is doing so well isn't that its young people are staying in the country and building it up. Poland has continued to suffer brain drain and a receding workforce. The reason the Polish economy is booming is because joining the EU 2004 kickstarted the economic boom Poland had been strangled out of having by the USSR for decades. That's why so many of the other countries in the upper half of the list are also Soviet ex-subjects, Poland just happens to be the largest and most resource rich of said countries in the EU.

Does no one realize how racist this assumption can be? Most LLMs are trained heavily on Commonwealth and other standardized English corpora, yet now when people from Commonwealth countries naturally write in polished English, others immediately say it “sounds AI-generated.”

No, datacenters are not all Satan.

I get it. I do. There's backlash against the caricature of the Tech Bro(tm) that wants to use AI to get rid of artists and creatives and productive creative labor for AIslop. I get it. But you don't have to invent reasons to hate the datacenters and demand they be outlawed, or whatever. There are real, concrete reasons with practical complaints. They don't need doomsday embellishment or ridiculous romance like they're destroying the neighborhood and poisoning the land and fish.

Datacenters exist for more than prompts for singing potatoes. They will be integral for both medical technology for pharmacological as well as epigenetic research, and this is like, the last frontier of medicine, you know. To the tune of repairing, fixing and replacing DNA and researching therapies and medicine so we could have NO or negligible side effects.

Their use to make singing potatoes and for upstart CEOs trying to save a few dollars on advertisements? We're already seeing Netflix and Amazon go, "well that actually cost us human resources, ratings and money." They'll understand they cannot functionally do that and profit from it.

But this absurd blowback against datacenters themselves as if they're toxic shit is silly, and so is the near luddite-style propaganda about how fucking cooling computer components works. Heating water and running it through pipes to cool it and RE-USE has been done hundreds of millions of times in hundreds of thousands of reactors our entire lives. Heating water does NOT turn it into brown fucking sludge and no it is NOT like fucking FRACKING. Some of yall are acting like condensing and heating water turns it into toxic slurry. It doesn't. It doesn't make water just, disappear, either. It's like being terrified that the sun will evaporate all the water on earth and leave us in a desert wasteland.
