Fun fact: This music video was released in July 1997. They had no obligation to make this in any way Halloween themed. The song probably isn’t on many Halloween playlists. But the Backstreet Boys wanted to do it this way, and had to fight the record label about it.

Oh, so this video clip is what they were referring to when they sung I want it that way?

The time has come

This was the video that got me into the Backstreet Boys. I was 17 and very much anti anything boyband shaped. I was however, completely obsessed with gothic fiction and media. So I watched the video, listened to the song, fell in love with Howie a little bit (long hair on men gets me every time), and ended up going to see them at Wembley Arena the following year. It was a mercifully short dalliance into boyband land. I was bored of them by the time the Millennium came around. But I will always put Backstreet's Back on my Halloween playlist. It's a banger, and it's fun watching a room full of 40-somethings try to remember the dance moves from the video.

the funniest thing about da3 is that it was such quintessential downton abbey shit. vague threats are made but never fulfilled. plot threads fizzle out unceremoniously. all the real drama happens off-screen. things are built up like they're gonna be devastating but then they're just... fine. there's a hallboy in the background.
