I got a reel on ig for someone advertising some ancient Japanese skin secret type product and in the video's comments an account really amicably called out "hey when you moved in this frame I could see the glitch your face tune filter, so respectfully I'm not trusting your opinion or buying this product cause you're not honestly showing the results when you edit your skin" and there were so many comments of people crying about it "hey you know it's a really vulnerable thing to show your real face texture online" and all this stuff about how it's somehow okay to falsely advertise a product because maybe that person was self conscious about their skin? And like it didn't seem to occur to them that as someone selling a skin product or trying to persuade and inform that if you LIE about the results like by using a filter then it's actually totally fair for people to not believe you or criticize the false advertising...

And it just grossed me out and made me sad how often the conversation gets turned in that direction about how just because judgment is scary or maybe we as individuals have good reason to have social anxiety or whatever somehow thats a good excuse for why as a society we shouldn't hold people responsible when they get caught out right lying about what they are selling

Like I understand all facial products use face editing to better their campaign and they are also constantly called out on it and should be and smaller individual creators don't get to escape responsibility just because humans are subject to negative emotions about their bodies

I am so tired of the constant excuses I see for all this artificial stuff and how the same people who buy into the narrative of needing to have full lush hair perfect make up spotless skin and manicured nails want to complain about having to adhere to those beauty standards while actively participating in them and then not even allowing anyone to have the conversation about why it's harmful like at the least we should be able to participate and then acknowledge our own roles as adults making choices regardless of social pressures

and he jokingly was like gee i wonder where u got that from and I realized how sadly transparent my trauma is - almost a comedic level

like wow yeah wonder why I have a debilitating chronic illness, can't imagine what emotions or prolonged periods of stress might have weakened my body's immune system or changed it's fundamental development hehe
