the Max and Silver parallels are so good but my favorite one is maybe how both of them betray the ones they love for their own selfish ends and Max atones and Silver doesn't. Max takes care of Anne, she tells her "there is nothing important that does not include you" (a romantic line of all time btw), she finds a way to build a life where - at least for the time being - she can hold onto what she has built and have Anne (and Jack) at her side. Meanwhile Silver chooses the wrong thing and he's like "I was right though. I was literally right.
