hi! the answer is probably just “practice more” 😭 but do u have any tips for adapting reference pics for fan art? i feel stuck drawing refs exactly how they are and not very confident making them into another guy. i rly admire your art!

i'm in no position to give out advice tbh i struggle with likenesses a lot too! i guess the answer IS 'practice more' and to draw the guys you want to draw until you figure out how to draw them (or at least your version of them). but i guess what i can say is try to use the reference for the thing you actually want to reference? like, use the reference just for the pose and not for the face. or just for the face and not for the pose. if that makes sense? i don't know. here's a video of me using a reference for a quick doodle (sped up 8x) - i'm not sure whether there's a lesson in there, but maybe it's interesting at least

i don't have to "cope with" it same way i don't have to cope with listening to the beatles. i don't want to sound callous but that's the simple truth. i don't feel guilty about it. so i don't think i can particularly help you with your struggle but it may be that this art blog is just not the place for it.

I've read your replies to others based on the taboo of wincest ideas and such and I wanted to sort of ask on an elaboration about if you have supporters and others who are(I'm not sure about the words I really want to use) avid defenders of personal fantasy, I guess? I don't know if it makes sense, but what I'm trying to ask is if me liking your art and stuff is a moral failing or show of my character lol. I've read hundreds of threads about how engaging in things like this and more taboo topics within the sexual realm and beyond are normal and fine because they aren't inherently harmful, but I also have people who tell me that these "excuses" are totally bogus and everyone who likes this and things like this is fetishizing things that actual people deal with and they're bad to the bone for life. I don't admit that I have my own liking for things around this in real life or online because I feel pressure from friends and I quietly agree with them because I'm not the kind of person to be very confident about anything, but especially this. Like what's the line people draw from creepy guys who play video games like No Mercy(that also have taboo topics and violence), creepy old guys versus people who like wincest and similar things online? Plus, the whole booktok craze is really bringing to light how many people delve into fantasy in real time, which I'm really suprised about. I don't know, this is very long, sorry if this is non-legible. Also, really like your art. :)

i wouldn't call them supporters, they are just friends and family who i share the opinion with that engaging with "problematic" topics (in quotes because there will never be a list of problematic topics everybody can agree with) and enjoying to do so is fine. but i'm not here to convince you or anyone of anything. you're doing right in reading different takes on it and forming your own opinion.

however! i think the main thing is the uncomfortable truth that there is no "line" to draw that easily and digestibly separates good from bad. in fandom or in life. and i don't think "bad to the bone for life" is a relevant category for anything serious. "fetishizing things that actual people deal with" is haunting to me - everything is something that actual people deal with. that's just human experience. i'm supposed to what? believe i'm not allowed to fictionally grapple with it?

i don't think liking wincest makes you a good person. but it's also not a signifier for being a bad person. and i think after my 10+ years in fandom i'm over discussing these things again and again because i don't think i have anything new to add to it, you know? you gotta find someone else for it.
