What is it? A soft, small bang for artists and fic writers alike.

Small bang? It’s a lot like a Big Bang except the word count is much lower and there aren’t partners unless you already have one.

What is the word count? The minimum is 5k and the “maximum” is 15k. This doesn’t mean it can’t go over 15k, it’s just the max expected word count.

What about artists? Artists can do anything from 1-3 pieces. Graphics, gifs, drawings. Whatever floats their boat.

How does it work?

There are 50 dialogue prompts. These prompts do not need to be included in the project, but they do need to inspire the project.

You can view these prompts here.

Then, you’ll pick 3 prompts and fill out the registration form. You need to pick three for a first, second, and third choice in case your first choice is taken. Registration opens on January 6th at 12pm EST. You’ll find the registration form on both the tumblr and twitter pages at this time.

There’ll be two check ins to see how everything’s going.

Then, you post on February 14th.

Twelve Days of Queliot (2019)

Comic book author Quentin and his best friend, artist Eliot, have an urgent deadline approaching after Christmas, so when Quentin’s boyfriend dumps him right before his sister Julia’s winter wedding to longtime girlfriend Kady, Quentin takes Eliot as his plus one. This novel-length Queliot Christmas romance features mutual pining, friends-to-lovers, dramatic magical Christmas presents, holiday baking, and domestic fluff, plus many sassy bisexuals.

Like, not to talk about my junk, but my bottom dysphoria was ridiculous before I was exposed to images of men who looked like me, and now it’s kinda… become a less essential component of my transition and my security in my identity as a man, you feel? And even seeing trans women kind of helped disconnect those parts from masculinity in my brain in a way that’s made it easier to accept what I’ve got going on.

Hello, Vampire Chronicles fans.

Sit down. We need to have a chat.

You see, while some people are very much excited for a new show about our pompous king of the assholes (and I say this as a term of endearment, having loved Lestat since I was a depressed teenager living in New York, shuffling through my mom’s fiction section) we need to pause and remember this:

This is difficult for younger fans to understand, but let’s take a walk down memory lane.

She has threatened to sue writers in the past. She is one of the most prolific writers of our generation, and she does not support people using her characters for their own work.

In fact, in 2000 she went on a binge-attack against her fans. She threatened legal action against fans who wrote or drew her characters, but especially those who wrote with them. She sent them weeks of harassing letters and doxxed them on the internet.

Let me repeat that.

She doxxed people who wrote fan fiction.

She harassed them online and threatened to contact employers.

She used her fans to outright attack other fans.

This isn’t even something she can just shake off now, with the comment of “It was so long ago” because she did this to a writer who wrote commentary on her story in 2013.

In 2013.

While it was not that she wrote fan fiction, she still shows that she has no respect for people who are in fandom.

Remember those disclaimers used in fan fics, at the beginning? “I do not own …. ”? Yeah, a lot of that has to do with the fact that Anne Rice and others like her would attack fandoms and threaten them, and was in hopes that they would just leave us alone. She didn’t.

In short: Do not trust Anne Rice. I love her writing, I have read every book she has even written, but I do not trust her.

However, according to copyright law fanfiction is considered a transformative work, and therefore is considered fair use.

For real. She told them that.

I’m such a fandom old I remember Wendi and Richard Pini going out of their way to make their characters accessible to fans, but still telling them they had to slap three paragraphs of carefully written disclaimers all over everything. Like, even for fanart. You wanted to draw Cutter and Skywise doing the do? You had to put that disclaimer on it somehow.

AO3 and the current creator-reactions to fanfic are so, so very new. Don’t ever forget how privileged we are to be here.

What piece of work best represents your writing style, and how would you briefly describe it?

The work that most exemplifies our writing style is probably “It’s Never Over,” a season 5 AU in which Eliot’s marginally less afraid of commitment, Quentin is less clueless than he used to be, & Margo is a sassy alpha bitch. There’s sex magicky shenanigans, a giant turtle, talking pegasi, and a plot to overthrow the Dark King and reclaim Fillory, all done Queliot-style.

Basically it’s smutty, fluffy, cracky, intense, and full of pure love between Quentin and Eliot.

Excerpt:

Quentin frowned but hopped up to follow, squeezing past Eliot to stand behind Margo, probably so he wouldn’t have to manage the door. It was a little strange. Eliot was about to ask why, but it suddenly got a lot strange when a giant turtle head zoomed at Eliot, hooked mouth open.

“Whoa! Prince of the Mud, we talked about this! No!” Margo cast a massive spell, blowing back the fifty-foot snapping turtle.

“You said there would be food,” the giant turtle—Prince of the Mud?—wheezed.

“You ate five goats on the way!” She turned toward Quentin and Eliot with her hands up as if exasperated. “And not all of them were the non-talking kind, either.”

I’ve been trying for ages to get a clear shot of it and finally got a hi-def enough shot.

He has a fricking illustrated version of the story of Adam and Eve. On display. In his workroom. By his desk. While he’s working. You know. Adam and Eve. Eden. Apple. That thing which led to his meetcute with the serpent in the fricking illustration?

I’ve been loving all the gentle, adorable Crowley interpretations floating around, but I’ve always loved the idea of Crowley as a dude who enjoys immensely being a huge asshole.

This designs is a bit of a mishmash between Tennants amazing look and how I thought Crowley looked about 20 years ago when i first read the book.
