has everyone seen the website that gives you a rothko for your local weather?
my most ungrounded and unresearched fear is that so many companies are pushing AI in part because it builds them a pathway towards a subscription model for a huge number of things that should not be subscription, but theoretically could be:
do you want to talk to verizon's help desk because there's an error on your bill? to access a real agent, you have to pay for Verizon Access+, only 5.99 a month.
want to filter out all the fake job postings from the real ones? subscribe to Indeed: Advanced Tactics and only verified postings will appear on your dash.
sick of the infinite ai slop? buy Google Premium; it'll automatically detect ai within a site and gives it a credibility score. with premium plus, you can shuffle high-credibility results to the top.
do you want a "luxury" experience? well, you'd have to pay for that luxury, and since the company sure doesn't want to pay its employees; the cost would fall to the consumer.
when automation has made every experience unpleasant; the experience of genuine humanity will be commodified.
This is already happening β one of the softwares used by a museum I work at only lets you talk to a human help agent if you have their premium subscription. It's such bullshitοΏΌ
the fact you are not the only one in these notes saying "no this is already happening; i have to pay money to speak to a representative" is just... really awesome! you said a software used by museums is doing this shit? okay! great! wonderful!! anybody know where i can scream
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
β¦ I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing Iβve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, heβs stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, theyβre still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but theyβre still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewerβs lived experience. Theyβre still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And itβs beautiful. Itβs beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because heβs presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
Do you feel accomplished when you tick all the boxes in your messy notebook? I do

Actually when I say βfuck all billionairesβ I particularly mean Taylor βhaving my wedding in the middle of the busiest city in the world on the busiest weekend in the world in the part of the city the majority of commuters need to get through because fuck working peopleβ Swift
fuck you if you like this dumb nepo baby white supremacist.
The Brothers Karamazov, Fyodor Dostoevsky (tr. Constance Garnett)
Visited some Taskmaster filming locations a few months back β Photos in a steppingthroughfilm / filmtourismus style
I had some more photos I wanted to do but couldn't get into the locations. For example, the closed off sports field with the trees for S6 and S8, where the wardrobe was dropped, score a goal etc. The North bank of the Thames where Tim Key launched his block of ice was too overgrown to get through like he did and the tide was rising. I couldn't go down either to the proper spot for Doc Brown's nursery rhyme, way too muddy, slippery and I did not have the right footwear.
I think about this like once a day
I have heard a variant on it that I really like: "You cannot hate yourself into someone you can love."

βIt does seem that, in the last twenty years or so, children get extraordinarily little solitude. Things are provided to do at all times, and the homework is so much heavier than what we had. But the solitude, the big empty day with nothing in it where you have to kind of make your day yourself, I do think thatβs very important for kids growing up. Iβm not talking about loneliness. Iβm talking about having the option of being alone.β

The new Princess Weekes makes me feel both seen and wanting to cry. This is why I feel so disconnected from a lot of media right now. We have so few shows, films, books that are diverse/ bipoc lead. Media that tells stories true to their respective cultures and identity, media that is interesting.
But for some reason every white hetero booktok romance gets a movie? I am tired.

adulthood notes:
The Rodeo Rule: you only have to do it for the first time once.
The Rohan Rule: if you are at a social function full of new people and you want to be liked, find someone doing important work like setup or food prep and offer to help.
The Tutorial Mode Rule: to navigate an unfamiliar situation where you fear you will mess up an interaction, preface the interaction by mentioning that you've never done this before, and let them know if you have a specific concern or question.
The Rocket Science Rule: most new things you want to try seem very complicated but are simple when taken step by step.
The [X] Will Remember That Rule: if you need to make small talk with the same person on a regular basis, try to save one fact or current event in their life from a given conversation and bring it up next time you talk.
The Cool Binder Rule: by wearing clothes and accessories that are to your taste instead of trying to blend in, people will be more likely to compliment you and show interest in you as a person.
