i was never going to love season 3 as much as the first two - i just don't think Lestat is that compelling - but there's basically nothing to like here. i haven't seen a show plummet like this since Westworld

i don't hate the tour as a framing device but the way they're using it is ridiculous... why are you spending SO much time with these bandmates and hangers-on if you're not going to give them any personality at all? why are you sidelining the interview with the vampire in favour of these juvenile montages of generically Cool Stuff happening?

the name change is actually really fitting because the first two seasons were so much about the form of the Interview - the way a story is modified by the context it's told in. The personality and motives of the storyteller(s), the imperfection of memory over time. Daniel isn't my favourite character but the way he embodies this theme is obviously important. always provoking and contradicting Louis and Armand, putting them off balance and picking up on inconsistencies in the telling.

while season 3 is Only about The Vampire Lestat and look how cool he is and how much sex and drugs he can do and look how hard he can piss(?) and it's only straight sex btw. in the gay vampire show. And Daniel is still there but he's never allowed to get under Lestat's skin because that would undermine the new primary theme of the show, which is that Lestat is very cool and very sexy.

& of course someone could justify all this with the fact that Lestat is the one telling the story now! and he's self-centered and he doesn't want to talk about his past and so on... but it's still A Choice to filter everything exclusively through his voice, including scenes in the present that he's not even around for! and to have no one pushing back or even really commenting on his version of the story.
