I replayed Life Is Strange again (this time the remastered version), and I already didn't like Joyce, but on that second playthrough, I really wanted to take those waffles and slam them into her face. Honestly, if I were Max, I would've made a whole scene bc the way Joyce treats Chloe is horrible. Like I don't doubt she loves her, but she sees all the issues Chloe has since her father passed away. Her unhealthy coping and reckless disregard for her own life, and yet she just blames her for choosing to stay angry. And makes it even worse by bringing a man into her life that is nothing but a controlling asshole to her the entire time, and literally hits her (implied that it wasn't the first time) and Joyce just brushes it off and blames Chloe for pushing his buttons. Like, what kind of mum says that (mine lol)? I could write a whole essay on how much Chloe was wronged by the people around her and how that affected her character. I find it so strange how people just write her off as a selfish prick, when it's so obvious that her behaviour stems from trauma and is mostly a self defense mechanism. Everyone she loved left or failed her in some way, so from her perspective, it's safer to act tough and not let anyone close instead of getting hurt again. Hurt others before they can hurt her. It's just my interpretation of her character, but I do believe she was at least passively suicidal and it honestly broke my heart how, even in the end, she thought her life wasn't worth saving. Which is why I'd always choose the bae ending because Chloe doesn't deserve to die like that, believing that everyone abandoned her because nobody gives a shit about her.
