Now take this logic and apply it to things like ADHD, autism, clinical depression, and other less visible/divergent disabilities. You cannot think your way out of feeling.

So I put together a short (4 page) rules light ttrpg called Inner Light, and I'm looking for playtesters! I put out the call on the Rabid Haberdashery Discord server and in the Rabid Haberdashery newsletter, but the newsletter got flagged because apparently some bot set up 18 subscriptions and then unsubscribed from it all at once? So the email sender flagged it as suspicious for the high number of unsubscriptions? I was very upset and I don't know how this happened.

Anyway! It means no one got the newsletter and therefore didn't sign up that way! So I still need help.

Inner Light is a game of intrapersonal balance. Each player takes on the role of an Aspect, one inner motivation or voice, with the party serving as the interior forces directing the words and actions of a single individual. Maybe these Aspects are a panel of emotions, maybe they're alternate personalities, maybe they're representatives of morality or physical needs. It's up to you!

Most of the gameplay centers around determining which Aspect will take charge in a given situation, and how the other Aspects will influence decisions even when they are not in control. Aspects grow in their ability to nudge outcomes by turning inward and facing off against moral dilemmas, forces of emotional disruption, and even other Aspects.

Sightseer is now available for download on itch.io, with the basic rulebook and an adventure: The Lost Temple.

Please remember that this game is still on development and it lacks content as of now, but the prewritten adventure should be playable.

This game has been in alpha or pre-alpha for 2 years now, and now I've begun working on the Beta version. Which is a fancy way of saying that I've begun taking the words on the page from google docs into Affinity. Which will allow me to do cool shit, like text wrapping and making tables not fuck up the entire document.

Most of the work right now is just getting the information onto affinity and formatting it correctly. Mainly so I know how much splash art I will need to commission from Renzrol on Reddit and @squidd1e here. (She has informed me she has moved on from drawing horses and is now working on drawing cows).

The main benefit of this is that images, tables, and text are not stuck in one place and I can move things. So for instance I can take the fishing tables, make them significantly thinner and shove them to the side of the page and have the fishing entries right next to them. That way you don't have to scroll down one or two pages every time someone wants to go fishing in game. That's just one example.

Also moving an image only affects things that are on the same page. So if I move a piece of character art slightly up or down, it won't fuck up a everything on the next fifty pages. The most tedious part of updating this game is scrolling through the entire document to make sure all the text and splash art doesn't suddenly look like shit.

Unfortunately I had to change the font from Copse to Cambria, because Affinity would let me Bold or Italicize text with Copse. I don't know why.

I and a bunch of other designers all put games in this bundle in the hopes that it would get folks a little bit more visibility, feedback, community engagement, etc on a platform like itch.

It's very easy as a small designer to work on something, release it, and then hear nothing back ever. So we're trying to fight that trend by offering some sweet pay-what-you-want games.

For personal context, before I went to the '98 Burning Man festival, one of the things I'd read from a couple different journalists was that "everybody" runs around naked. Which, fine by me, I'd already spent a lot of time in clothing-optional spaces, I'm not fanatic about it but it's nice.

So I got there early and set up a public shade structure on one of Black Rock City's main roads and spent most of each afternoon just watching the crowds go by. I don't remember seeing more than one actually naked person the whole week. I think a topless woman passed by my intersection maybe every half an hour, sometimes once an hour. So why in the hell were people, normally pretty smart and observant writers, coming away with the impression that everybody was naked?

Then I remembered an unrelated passage from Joel Garreau's great book about the history of the outer-ring suburbs, Edge City. Mall developers told him flat-out that they tried to keep the crowds in their malls less than 5% black. Not because they themselves were racist, but because they had determined, experimentally, that if more than 5% of the people in the mall are black, the median white shopper will wrongly describe the mall as at least half black, as mostly black. And not a few of them would describe it, at 6% black, as a mall where "only black people go." Why?

Because, emotionally, they were still upset over the last one when the next one came into view.

The mall people, regardless of whether or not their self-description of "not racist" is accurate (it's almost certainly less accurate than they like to think, at least), were doing that calculation. They had come to the conclusion that the people who had disposable income and were willing to spend it in their mall were primarily white, and since their fundamental goal is to suck money in, they decided that being unwelcoming to black customers, even black customers with equivalent disposable income, was an acceptable price to pay to advance their goal.

Consider Lil Nas X. He did the same calculation. He tailored his career in such a way that he could move toward national attention while offering a point of connection to queer and black people who were traditionally cut out of the space he was occupying. But it came with a cost, and even support from Dolly Parton hasn't been enough to keep hate off his back. He's still making music, so I assume he's accepted the vitriol he faces as an acceptable price to pay to advance his goal.

we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
