it do be like that sometimes
I want to boost everything this person has said and add on.
The reason I call myself a tomboy now, despite it being seen as a childish word and having had someone swear at me over it because ‘tHeRe’S nO suCh thInG as BoY thInGs anD giRL thIngS sHut uP’ is because I couldn’t call myself that or be like that when I was a kid. It was seen as a negative thing and I was already bullied enough. “Looking like a boy” was the worst thing that could happen to a girl.
And I’m not even 26 yet. We aren’t talking 30+ years ago, we are talking 2000s and even 2010s. It’s only since trans people have become more accepted in the past few years that gender nonconformity has too.
And the people who helped me accept my gender nonconformity more than anyone else? Were trans people. They taught me, “there’s nothing wrong with how you feel. You’re still a valid woman no matter what you wear, how you have your hair or what you’re into ❤️”
And don’t even get me started on how people treat gender nonconforming men. JK Rowling has a lot of nerve to be like “uwu boys can wear dresses and only us gendercrits accept that!” when she has, even in recent works, made femininity in men a negative trait, as well as making masculinity in women a negative trait also.
A lot of people still don’t accept gnc people even now. Just last year I had someone tell me they’d never let their daughter “dress like a boy”, and I’m always terrified to walk into a bathroom in case the next JK Rowling is in there, sees my gender expression and pepper sprays me or worse.
“There’s no such thing as boy things and girl things.” I don’t need to be told that and I’m sure 99% of trans people also don’t need to be told that. Tell that to the society that hates us both instead of actively encouraging that hate.
Gonna point out the og tweet thread is now full of terfs saying that life was better for gay people in the fucking 80s, that it was super easy for them to be a tomboy in the 70s and 80s and therefore it must have been that way for everyone, and that it was totally acceptable to be a gnc gay person in the 80s! 🤪
They’re rewriting history as we speak to try to argue trans acceptance is making it harder to be gay and gnc for youth than it was to be gay in the 80s. This is a blatant lie.
The fucking 80s??? As in, “aids crisis” 80s?? As in, “the government actively avoided funding research to help gay people” 80s????
Man I knew terfism was brain rot but I didn’t think it was this bad.
Actually I'm not going to just keep this in the tags
That video of Alex Hirsch reading S&P notes for Gravity Falls conveys a few things to me:
1) the U.S. entertainment industry (especially animation) is run by older conservative types who make up offensive terms and get really mad about them.
2) the people who run Disney would be the first to fall in line with a fascist regime.
3) most of the media we consume is tailor-made and watered-down to appeal to the tastes of older, deeply religious conservative audiences.
4) conservatism, not the left, is and always has been the biggest voice of censorship in American culture.
J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5, was before that a producer and writer for a number of cartoons in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s (The Real Ghostbusters and the original She-Ra, most notably). After a few years of dealing with the censors and their obsession with finding Satanism (or at least looking for Satanism to further political agendas) he wrote an article about the whole corrupt and bullshit system.
And published it in Penthouse, to force those same censors to buy a skin mag. The editor there asked, why Penthouse?
That one is from his autobiography, Becoming Superman. See also:
(As he goes on to say, he’s never worked in animation again–he’s effectively been blacklisted by the cartoon industry.)
Every time something like this comes up, I remember two stories about making media. The first is about movies, and comes from Quentin “Feet Man” Tarantino.
When he was making Pulp Fiction, he was worried that the MPAA would object to the high level of violence in the film, so he shot a bunch of extra-gory stuff that he didn’t actually want in the film, and added it in before submitting it to the MPAA. Predictibly, they asked him to cut most of it (without even commenting on some of the things that had him worried, like the bits of Marvin’s skull that lodge in Samuel L. Jackson’s hairpiece). The resultant cuts were actually more permissive than he’d expected, so he cut a little more and submitted it, and it got passed with an R.
The second story is about that artist on Morrowind whose name escapes me (I’m not a big ES fan tbh) who figured out that if he made two creature designs, one weird and what he wanted, and one even weirder, he could get Todd Howard to agree to just about anything by showing him the whopper first, then going back and “working” for another few hours on a second, “toned-down” version, and it worked every time.
The reason I bring these up is that the thing that drives censors isn’t some extant physical rubrick of what is and isn’t acceptable, it’s the idea that they can have absolute power over someone else’s creative work. It’s about the social dominance of the interaction.
There is nothing so innocent, so clean, that a censor will not find some fault with it. Because they must find something wrong with it to justify their existence, and because it makes them feel powerful.
This is true of all censorship.
For anyone wondering, the PhD student's name is Myra Cheng.
Here's a link to an article about the study from the Stanford Report: link.
Across three preregistered studies, participants interacting with sycophantic AI became more convinced of their own rightness and less willing to repair relationships. Yet at the same time, participants rated sycophantic AI models as higher quality, more trustworthy, and more desirable for future use, which may explain why this behavior has persisted despite its harmful impacts.

Really bizarre behavior to post "my LLM gave me several wrong and/or irrelevant outputs, I'll describe them at length," in response to like a discussion topic. Ok, fork found in kitchen, but now we're talking about your llm instead of the topic in question. This is at least as true if you know it's full of shit, at least a slack-jawed worshiper at the altar of Amodei thinks he's helping someone! Why do we have to put up with this in all of our social spaces, every last one, and why do we keep putting up with it when we have nothing to lose even should the entire space go down in flames from the resulting conflict? The role of LLM output, specifically, as a ddos attack on the capacity to engage in community was obvious from the first moment if you had two brain cells to rub together, although even that seems to have left me a Cassandra among you single-celled organisms swimming eagerly into solitary confinement, but I didn't realize how many nominally self-willed creatures would take such pride in being a conduit for the attack
cancel your mullvad subscription
tech news today is that Mullvad VPN has gone mask-off about being the major funding source for the Swedish Orebro party, who are racist nationalists. unfortunately all discussion of this is occurring on fucking Mastodon instances i can barely load
if you are a mullvad customer (as i am) and want to get out, here is guidance from this guy
If you don't want your Mullvad fees going to fund neo-Nazis - or @mozilla VPN fees, which is rebranded Mullvad - cancel and get a refund immediately that's whose "free speech" the official account is talking about here, and that's where your fees go to EDIT: Mullvad has a 14 day refund policy. But the message below is a direct call to ask for a refund if you don't want to give money to Nazis. If Mullvad refuse a refund, call your consumer protection agency. And reverse credit card charges on the basis of deceptive refund policy representations. It's not like you ever want to be a Mullvad customer again. archive copy of Mullvad statement: https://web.archive.org/web/2026062717
The (European) sun is a deadly laser, stay safe everyone
☝️🤓 it’s because the further you move toward the earth’s poles, the lower the angle of the sun is at the hottest parts of the day, meaning the radiation hits your whole body, causing it to feel 10-20 degrees warmer than the thermometer reading will tell you. People from tropical climes, aka close to the equator, are used to the sun’s radiation hitting a much smaller target- their head and shoulders.
Also the further you move toward the poles the more pronounced the difference between the length of day and night is. Worst part of a far-north (or south) heatwave is it doesn’t get dark long enough for meaningful cooling.
It’s not the heat. It very literally is the sun.
“Because the truth is, tech doesn’t have an image problem. It doesn’t have a message problem. It has an intention problem. What’s wrong with the axe murderer who broke into my house is not that he hasn’t successfully persuaded me to buy into his narrative. What’s wrong is that he’s trying to kill me with an axe. Similarly, when you launch a product that’s designed to put millions of people out of work, block access to sources of verifiable truth, replace human creativity with slop, and lower the barriers to every sort of atrocity, the problem isn’t that you haven’t told the public a good story about those things. The problem is that you are trying to do them.”

Googled something about quick hydration and it suggested big jug of water, couple tbsp pickle juice, dash of lime juice.
Its surprisingly tasty????
Pleased to report that after a day of this i am not longer craving caper brine and my mouth is not dry as usual. There's some good suggestions in the notes too that I want to try.
-ancient roman posca: water, red or white wine vinegar, honey, salt, herbs (coriander, mint, thyme)
-switchel: water, ginger, vinegar, sweetener, lemon, salt
-ayran: yogurt, water, salt, mint
-Agua pepino: water, cucumbers, lime, sugar, optional mint.
I have been reminded of:
-shrub: vinegar, sida water, elderberry (or other berry), sugar.
I have now been informed of
-sekanjabin: honey, vinegar, mint, water.
"Wow, I wonder why this post was popular this week."
-sees the reports of the heatwave in Europe-
"... ah."
no no, I realise it, I’m just still driving despite the check engine light being on
the pharmacy section at a co op will be like heres homeopathic flower essence whispers, hyperenzyme cream for melting foot corns thats banned in the EU but kosher certified and organic, sea kelp lozenges for senior dogs, witch hazel suppositories, a wild lettuce tincture thats basically laudanum with no warning, CBD propolis baby powder, ear candles made with cadmium and lead, adaptogenic mushroom powder made by a christian cult, berberine infused deodorant crystal, every scent of dr bronners, 6 tincture lyme protocol set for 350 dollars, HappyClit motherwort and plantain yoni hydration salve, and some lip balm made in a barn. and we thank god for that
so i hauve covid rn and i must say, American cold medicine is the absolute bees knees. You go to a UK pharmacy and they tenderly press like eight (8) paracetamol into the palm of your hand... God FORBID you're sick in France, i had to scour every pharmacy in Paris for something that wasn't HOMEOPATHIC PASTILLES. meanwhile last night i took the last of my stash of Nyquil that expired in 2019 and it was like getting hit by a fucking baseball bat (affectionate). press X to timeskip. LOVE me a cheeky little medically induced coma. you can really feel that it's a precursor to meth. i know that everything is fucking awful over there my friedns and my heart goes out to every one of you but if you need one small bright light of national pride in this time of strife please know that i envy you your cold medicine every day
i once took an american antihistamine pill just a basic one for seasonal allergies and i had to immediately lay down and while doing so i vividly hallucinated that i was a steerage passenger on the titanic resigned to my death as my cabin filled up rapidly with water. then i blacked out and when i woke up again my allergies were gone for the entire season.

if i could make the tumblr userbase understand like five things the first four would be about class consciousness but i would save the number 5 spot for "genetic polymorphisms do shit to your ability to metabolize substances in ways you cannot comprehend, but which are responsible for some people having a heart attack after one panera lemonade and other people needing a Shadowlands to make it through one swing shift, and that's before we start getting into CYP variables like bergamottin and st john's wort". the scatter graph for how any drug works for "people generally" looks someone dropped a can of BBs on the kitchen floor
For the love of god (Montressor), there are so many liver enzyme polymorphisms. The variety in the subtleties of metabolism of the average human holobiont is difficult to express.

i am begging doctors to stop telling new adderall patients to start at 20+mg. you need to be starting at around 2mg and observing what happens carefully. some people are genetically vulnerable to amphetamine psychosis yes but thats not even what im talking about, i mean the standard 30mg adult dose is too high for most adults starting out and it is absurd to blitzkrieg someone with amphetamines like that.
if you get a new adderall prescription i am medically advising you to start your first dose at 5mg or below, same for ritalin. the entire idea of medication of this type is to titrate up slowly until you hit the homeostasis of your own tolerance, genetic metabolic factors, and use case. titrating DOWN from a dose thats too high is wasteful and unpleasant and puts you at higher risk of psychosis
i posted on here a few days ago the idle thought that i wondered if prescribing physicians are all on long term adderall tolerance anyway (based on the adderall usage stats in med schools) so they think their patients should be started at higher doses and one of my pharmacy industry mutuals replied to me privately and just said “yep” so keep in mind the entire field of western medicine as it exists today is practiced by functional speed freaks and adjust your expectations
ACCEPT the higher prescription dose, build up a surplus because the shortages will get you eventually, just dont take that higher dose at home until/unless youve worked your way up from a much lower dose
theres a reason this tweet is about 30mg of adderall
girl help they're doing homeopathic estrogen shit with adderall
let me be very clear: if you find 2mg of adderall useful, you don't need adderall in the first place.
^^^^ wrong and stupid. blocked. this person is a moron, as evidenced by the pile of tumblr badges that more often than not succeeds the usernames of people like this. how much adderall do you think is in your system at once for people on 5mg XR? or 10? do the half-life math you dipshit
@3liza is 100% correct here, and carefully working up your dosage is absolutely the correct course of action with a very large number of drugs, as it turns out! Particularly the psychiatric variety. I also have no fucking idea how "ramp up your dosage slowly on your legal speed to find the appropriate dose" relates to 'homeopathic estrogen' nonsense. Besides poor reading comprehension, possibly?
social media websites should aggressively seek out, identify, and hire their most prolific and oldest shitposters specifically to tell them whether feature ideas are stupid or not. it is the number 1 mistake i see social media sites make and the easiest one to avoid. i would be willing to advise tumblr on a professional basis for minimum wage. every website is currently being run, advised, and speculated about in meetings by people who do not use the website
No one cares about my opinion, but hire 3liza, you fools
