I do think it’s funny that after the end of the show season, the niche audience of fans who read the book and loved it because they’re a niche audience predisposed to liking it were telling each other to prepare for a bunch of Shane hate, and then the same people have largely been baffled and upset when upon reaching a wider audience actually a bunch of people said “wtf is this why would i hate the guy who gets screwed over completely as punishment for not forgetting the realities of the works he lives and works in? Can we talk about the racism inherent to this mess?”

Like as a mostly outside observer it is just funny how that went opposite of expectations.
