I crashed that helicopter
So, I’m at the doctors with my mom and it’s an important appointment. I needed a distraction and this happened. Wildly unrealistic but then again so is the source material (I’m looking at you S9 trailer), suspend all disbelief and enjoy. But also…*runs away to hide* 🫣
Buck barrels toward the wreckage, heart lodged in his throat, fear twisting his gut into knots. He’s never been one to pray, but he’s praying now.
Shattered glass glitters across the ground, twisted arcs of metal jutting out at odd angles. A trail of smoke curls up from somewhere behind the tail end of the helicopter. They don’t have much time.
He reaches the crash first, eyes skimming over a body a few feet away—not Tommy, not Tommy—before he’s clawing for the cockpit. A flash of blue flight suit makes his breath stutter.
Behind him, he can hear Chimney giving orders; sending Eddie to the victim, Ravi towards the smoke while Hen and him follow Buck.
The door won’t give. Buck wrestles the jaws of life into position. Metal screeches as it pries open and he finally forces his way in. Blood streaks down Tommy’s temple, a jagged shard of glass is embedded in his side. For a terrifying second, Buck can’t tell if he’s breathing.
Then a groan. Glazed eyes blink open. “Ev…Evan.”
“I’m here,” Buck chokes out, grabbing for his hand. Relief surges when Tommy squeezes back weakly.
Chimney shoves in, Hen working from the other side, having managed to open the other door.
Tommy tries to smile, frowns instead. “Sorry.”
“Hey, none of that. You’re gonna be okay. We’re getting you out.”
But Tommy shakes his head, breath hitching. “Need…need to tell you. I—”he winces in pain, before rallying. “I wanted everything. House, dog…kids. Wanted it with you.”
The words gut him. Buck swallows hard. “Yeah?”
“Sorry, I ran,” Tommy says, eyes closing.
“M’coward,” he mutters, tear-filled blue eyes looking up at Buck.
“No,” Buck’s voice is fierce. “You’re one of the bravest man I know. We just…forgot to talk.”
A ghost of a smirk. “True. Kept getting distracted.
Buck huffs a wet laugh—then blurts the dumbest, truest hope in his heart. “Marry me.”
Hen and Chimney snap their heads up like he’s lost his damn mind. But Tommy? Tommy smiles, faint, fond and a little incredulous. “Okay.”
Buck gasps, fumbling with into his pocket until he finds what he’s looking for. He pulls out the ring he’s been carrying since he found it. Tommy arches a brow—seriously?—and for one breath, Buck sees the man he loves, whole and unbroken. He swallows the sob that tries to break out of him.
“I found it in the attic of my new place,” Buck babbles. “It…it uh, has quite a story. I’ll tell you all about it. But it’s mine now. Well, yours.”
“It cursed?” Tommy asks dryly.
Buck snorts, warmth spreading through him. “No, curse free. I promise.”
Tommy lifts a trembling hand. Buck slides the ring onto his finger. It’s a perfect fit.
“Alright, lovebirds, time to move,” Chimney mutters as they haul him onto a board.
Once outside and heading for the ambulance, Buck runs back to his side, clutching his hand tight.
Buck’s breath catches—before he can speak, Tommy’s eyes flutter shut, hand going limp in his.
